But that was back in 2004. Maybe they have improved the tracks in the meantime.

Of course it stops on the Thai side of the border at Nong Khai and you need to bus to Vientiane after the border crossing but you know what I mean.
4 choices for departure times. Overnight or day.
Takes 8 - 12 hours depending on your choice of departure time.
Leaves from Hualamphong.

I'm sure Thai train travel is very slow but I have always wanted to take a short train trip. Preferably not a trip that starts at 6:30AM like the BKK-Pattaya route. Has anybody taken the train from BKK to Hua Hin? Or for that matter the boat service from Pattaya to Hua Hin? I'd be curious what that is like.

Posts: 303Ahhhh. Was not following the posts. But the last ones were the ones I read and wanted to give MonkeyPaw a heads up in that he cannot leave by official channels and he is in for a world of hurt if he is stopped by authorities.
Even his hotel / residence could turn him in if they checked the stamps on his passport. I have had front desk girls flip through my passport or even make a copy of the front page in some countries. They try to hide it behind the counter but I am very wary of such things.

The new train might be more comfortable, and perhaps faster (they renovated the track), but it's still a 6:30 am departure, and only one per day, so I doubt it'll be convenient to anyone. If departure time were closer to noon, more tourists might be interested.

This is getting into serious territory. You will end up in deep trouble if you don't exit the same way without official notification. If you exit through official routes, they will look for your entry and then let you rest in their prison facility because you did not enter officially. When they let you out, several years later, they will ban you from entering the country again.

Posts: 666I made it to Bangkok.
I'm in Bangkok now. God has bestowed upon me some serious powers to succeed in my journey. So I'm having a quick meal at Terminal 21 and later it will be time to play with the ladies. Hopefully we can hang out soon, buddy old pal.
