From my Lao learning experience, I even found out the same word could be pronounced in different ways to carry different meanings. For example, the word "Chao" in Lao can be pronounced like "Sao" or "Tchao" carrying different meanings.
Also, don't forget the fact that, Thai in Bangkok and in Isaan / border states near Malaysia are different. Recently, I went to a Tribal village near Chiang Mai where I found out the Tribal people's Thai is significantly different from mainstream Thai. They say people in southern Thailand tends to speak sweet Thai when compared to Isaan or northern part of Thailand.

Takes significant time to just get pronunciation going good, like months unless intensive.

Now-a-days some organizations are coming with Express Thai learning courses which lasts for 3-5 days (classes everyday) and they teach some basic phrases and vocabularies.

My Thai improved in leaps and bounds when I had sexy Thai ladies staying with me full time (25 years ago you could book girls for bulk time cheaply and STs hardly existed), but this only works well if they cannot speak English, because if they feel their English is better than your Thai, they will naturally try to communicate in English. So that is why some early self study and teacher classes would be a good idea. Several Thai sounds do not exist in English and even basic vowel sounds differ significantly from English vowels. Especially if you are American, you need to learn to make many Thai sounds a lot shorter. Thai with American accent is amusing.
Use a flashcards App to study vocab. I use Flashcards Deluxe and feed it with an extensive spreadsheet. In early stages concentrate heavily on pronunciation of the Thai sounds and the tones. If you pronounce completely wrong vowel sounds, you may not be understood (unlike in English). Fortunately Thai Grammar is almost non-existent and dead easy.
Paiboon Talking Thai English Dictionary App is good. You can hear how the words are pronounced.
I have extensive and sufficient vocab, but it takes a lot of time and effort, persistence over years, unless you are super brilliant at picking up languages.

Posts: 492I left Pattaya because I couldn't find anything to do during the day and didn't want to hit the bars every night. I came to Phuket to where the gyms are at in Chalong so I could take some bjj during the day. But there isn't much night life here. There are no baht buses. I don't really want to hire a motor bike taxi to explore and don't want to rent one to drive. I didn't like patong beach at all, though I didn't give it much of a chance at one day.
So I am back to Pattaya in a few days. Going to stay there maybe 4 or 5 days then off to chiang mai. From things I see online e it has some daytime and some night time fun. I like a busy street life with lots of food vendors, beer bars and baht buses. Chaing Mai has a bjj place also. I would like to take a bit of thai language classes, but they seem expensive and more serious then I am looking for. I would like to learn a couple dozen phrases. And simple greetings, not the whole language or grammar etc.
Not much of a report other then to say chalong is boring.

Then each one can decide.
Price police is no good, but a mild warning somebody has overpaying is a friendly hint to make him aware not to be ripped off again.
Then the +- 500 can come and go, and no harm is done to anyone.

You can always create a Price thread in the Thailand forum, for me to avoid. LOL.

Dear all,
Although I am a member for several years, I took notice of the price thread today only.
http://www.internationalsexguide.inf...hp?1083-Prices
The forum is full of posts complaining about increasing prices and guys asking for price information in paticular threads.
The price thread being a general one could be a very useful tool for all of us, so I would like to encourage my fellow mongers to put some recent info there. IMO it could be done in a brief way (widely practiced already) mentioning:
Country.
City.
Type of establishment.
ST / LT.
Looks of the lady X /10.
Performance X /10.
Price.
Link to your post.
Sorry for cross posting, happy mongering!

Posts: 673I've arrived in Bangkok, first trip for a year or so. A question and an observation.
Firstly, does anyone know when and why The Office off Soi 33 closed down? I went there looking for a beer at about 2100 hrs last night and it was closed down. Disappointing for me as I have had some good times there in the past.
Next, has anyone noticed how fat Thai women are getting in Bangkok in particular as Thailand getting more Westernized? I've got to say it's disappointing. Why the fuck Thai women want to look more like the fat Bush pigs we have to put up with in the west has got me stuffed. Has anyone else noticed this as well or is it an illusion?
Thanks.
