Sean,
Edge where I use my machine is not compatible with my G3 phone...Orange uses a different set up but I can only assume that different countries and companies have different protocols.
And yes its great to have a card and get on-line from where ever. Whats good with the Nokia 6680 as I have said is that I can take a call while transmitting my material as sometimes need to co-ordinate with my connection in NYC during transmission.
Cheers.

Lemme put it this way: STOP worrying about these holidays.
I've seen bars closed during elections, royal birthdays, Buddha days and what not and it never stopped me from gettin' laid.
Thailand is Thailand and there will always be women!

all these cards and g3 phones are compatible with mac and pc. you might want to check out phones and cards that are compatible with gsm's system, which is different from edge - i use it and get speeds that are comparable to adsl.[quote]
yo buzz00,
i may be mistaken, but i think we are talking about the same thing.
edge is an acronym for "enhanced data rates for gsm evolution," the two edge cards that i have been using are complient with: gprs and edge, which is gsm.
i've found that the download speeds are comparable to the adsl speeds in the bkk internet shops, the upload speeds on the other hand vary and can be a bit slower.
there are newer, more tricked out cards that have just come out like the siera wireless 775 that is gprs, edge, hsdpa (read hutch in thailand), and doubles as a wi-fi card, but i've only seen a couple of these at pantip and were about 10,000 bht. the two that i field tested are cheaper, work well and can be picked up for about $50.00 on ebay. i'm interested in these cards because i sometimes work from thailand and need more mobility than a hotel or coffee shop wi-fi. i'm sure its not for everybody, but its nice to be able to take your laptop anywhere and after the outlay for the card its cheaper than about anything else.
cheers,
sean

Posts: 42Ouch Freeler, I can’t believe you pulled the RTFF on me. I read that post before that’s how I already knew April 6th is Chakri day. Since it was asked about Mugha Bucha day I thought I would ask about Chakri day so I know what to expect when I’m there.
I stated that I read the forum last year around that time and didn’t see anything about bars being closed so I just wanted to double check.

Posts: 42What about Chakri Day on April 6th? Is it business as usual. I’ve checked the forum around that time last year and there didn’t seem to be any interruption but since the topic of holidays was brought up, I thought I would ask.
Thanks,
Taz

Think it falls on the 13th this year, as the 12th is a Sunday.

the best card on the market at the mo is the merlin made by novatel but i am not sure that you would find it in los.
http://www.novatelwireless.com/produ...rlin-v620.html
you might also take a look at the nokia 6680, which uses a usb 2 data cable or the later model, 6682 which i have and also accepts phone calls while hooked up to the internet.this is a g3 phone which works on both fast hook ups. small concilation is that the data cable is included in the package.
if you would like even more sophisticated hook ups then you can pick up a bgan sat phone for the paltry sum of $650.- depending on where you buy it.
the phone is around $450.- in los but the card might be more.
cheers

a couple of sites that will give you more information and clearer instructions:
howardchui.com - sign up for forum, you'll see a bunch of forums that go into this.
apple.com > support > discussion - forums will also discuss this, do search for 'edge'
cnet.com - although that is usually more pc oriented.
