But right seafood restaurant. Great intersection there at Pratunum. At the Indra Grand they have the best Irish Coffees.

Posts: 290There is an RR right of way to Don Muong
The RR right of way is still there but no rail line was built. They blame it on the '98 economic crisis but in reality they would never deprive the drivers that ride to the airport, where they get a nice fare out and nice return fare. The same goes with any airport in the p4p world that I can think of. In the PI, they dismantled all the trains except for about 1,000 kilometers on Luzon.

One bomb at Pratunam Pier on Saen Saeb Canal bridge (Ratchaprarop Road) near "Best Sea Foods" also just north of World Trade Centre and Big C. I'm not sure that this little bridge is likely to be called 'Khlong Toey bridge' as Khlong Toey area is South of Sukhumwit road and East of the Expressway down to the port and doesn't come as far as Pratunam (however could be quite wrong since I don't know the name of the bridge)
Also a bomb just down the road in public phone box near pedestrian overpass between Kaysorn Plaza and Central World Plaza (was called World Trade Centre)
Also a bomb at Chinese temple in Khlong Toey
Also at the Victory Monument
and others.

While walking around the extremely busy food court of Siam Paragon last Saturday night, the thought occurred to me how easy it would be for some crazie to create havoc. 100% security is almost impossible with all those people in one place. If the situation gets more serious as Cebu Local suggests, then I would pick and choose my play spots more carefully.
On the other hand, I agree with BuleDaddy that it is a matter of relative safety or danger. On my way to the airport last night just before the bombings, my cab driver was:
-Driving a car with extremely poor shocks and brake pads so worn I could hear metal rubbing against metal.
-Driving like a race car driver weaving in & out of traffic.
-Tailgating like a dare-devil.
As we approached the airport I felt my chances of survival rapidly improving the closer we got and as traffic thinned. During that ride I would have felt safer standing in front of the Central World Plaza. Then finally, I had to direct the nit-wit to "Departures" when he was about to veer towards "Arrivals".
Does anyone know about the possibility of a subway or Skytrain extension to the airport? Just wishful thinking I guess.

WOW,
4 before Midnight and 3 after. Some deaths and serious injuries. One went off right by Pratunum by the Klong Tuey Bridge near that seafood restaurant.
One in Kao San road, where all the Backpackers go.
fugg-it.....I'm more scared of the methed out cabbies, or having klong water thrown in my face during the songkran. If I was an expat I'd be more scared of an ex-bargirl wife poisoning me to cash in.

Here's a list to get the conversation going. Maybe one of these will suit your needs. If Ava is what you are looking at, then it looks like you are aiming for casual.
Absolute 7 Bar - Sukhumvit 7/1
I've always visited this place late evening. Not sure what it's like around dinner.

Gullivers Tavern - Sukhumvit 5
Nice place, but does not pick up until later in the evening.

Jools - Sukhumvit Soi 4
Not sure of the website, but popular with Expats and very close to the action.
Hillary Bar or Hillary Bar 2
Just a simple pool bar, but it's right across NEP if that's where you are headed.

Poseidon Soapie
For a different experience, meet at the restaraunt/bar at this huge soapie and then make your way up to the fishbowl after you have had time to digest the meal. I would suggest eating light!
In case you are interested in more upscale places, there's Spasso at the Grand Hyatt, Q-Bar, Bed Supper Club, Diplomat Bar at the Conrad hotel, and V9 at the Sofitel Silom. The V9 has a great view. There's another bar overlooking the city, but the name escapes me right now. These places may not have the "central location" that you are looking for. There's also the Thaniya Plaza bars if you are Japanese and the Soi 33 Artists Bars if you are not. Again, they are a bit off the beaten path.
The list can go on and on. BKK has an endless supply of bars and "meeting" places in the Sukhumvit area, so I'm sure you will find something that meets your requirements.

7 bombs exploded in Bangkok a few hours ago. We still don't know anything about the background of this stupid nonsense.
The Nation: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2006...s_30022985.php
Military is on the roads. The main countdown celebration at WTC is cancelled.
Here in the upper Sukhumvit Road area everything is quiet.

Posts: 376Reports of bombs in Bangkok?
I just turned on the news here in the US and they are saying some bombs just went off in Bangkok. I guess all of our fears about the southern problems moving north may have happened.
There don't appear to be too many details out yet. Hopefully someone there will let us know what is really going on.
Here is the initial CNN report:
BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- At least four explosions have ripped through several areas of downtown Bangkok wounding at least 12 people, police say.
Sunday's blasts came as residents prepared to celebrate New Year's Eve at midnight (noon ET).
Chief government spokesman Yongyud Maiyalab warned people to be cautious but not to panic.
One blast occurred at a mall near the Victory Monument in the center of the Thai capital, Reuters reported.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility
