Thais are pretty fastidious about personal hygeine. Some shower 3+ times a day, most, if not all twice/day. It's not just to do with the heat, but is tied directly to their preoccupation with good smell.

I shower at least twice a day, but if I want extra space on the plane, I just take off my shoes.

Someone PMd me today about the classic movie "Roots", where one of the black guys said that white people smell like wet chickens. LOL.

My wife is Turkic, and in her culture, one shower/bath per week is the norm (plus daily washing by hand). She always smells good, even without perfume. She thinks I'm crazy showering so often, and actually believes that a shower can make you sick. This is a Chinese belief also, so I'm surprised to read it's not a Thai belief.

The point that needs to be stressed is that smell is particularly important to Thais. It's a huge part of their culture, tied as it is to Buddhism, (flower garlands, incence, food, especially fruit at shrines etc.) and even romance (that wonderful Thai sniff, that Thai girls do in the nape of your neck). i think its more a case of which cultures are either used to, or more accepting, or even liking strong body odours.

the cultures with people who are oblivious to body odours of course are likely to have more people with body odours that are too strong for the extremely sensitive thai nose. and yet the thais seem to be able ignore the stench of rotting food in the street, foul drains or stinky canals presumably because they are used to it. size of glands under armpits is a very important factor also which may vary accross races (i am not expert here).

i know i must be super vigilant and shower several times per day with extreme attention to under arms and genitals, arse, mouth etc. as i know any feint odour will be ugly to a thai.
in my home country, less is adequate. i have special equipment for mouth including a tongue scraper.
also recommend lactacid for washing privates as the very weak lactic acid helps prevent fungal infection in sticky climate.

finicky personal hygiene is important just before and after sex of course whether in thailand or not.

2. Resentment of Indians in Thai society is very limited according to my Indian friends living in Thailand. In fact, the resentment has eased much more in recent years according them.

3. Thais are being hypocritical because on one hand they have giveaway airfares to bring Indian tourists in and on the other hand turn up their noses once they are here.

4. It is a small amount of Indians who give the bad name.

Not exactly sure what you meant by "all 1.2billion of them...". And actually not sure if answering this message is gonna help at all. I suggest you read my post again. I have no doubt that not "all 1.2 billion" indians (still not sure if that is what you meant) are annoying, smelly prats who do not complete reading the post before screaming out insults.

I personally have pretty good mates who are indian, pakistan, bangladeshi background. They are not the sterotype typical "indians" who Thais dislike.

Look to be fair. I am of Chinese background. And I can tell you, that the chinese (typical sterotyped mainland chinese) are pretty disliked in a lot of countries too. They are loud, uncouth, and will also bargain over the smallest spare change. I personally regconize the problems with my own fellowmen and try to educate them whenever I have the chance. Some listen, some just tell me to fark off, which is fair enough.

Now again, some of my closest friends are indians and they are definitely not the indians thais dislike (I thought that was the issue here to begin with?). So if you want to go to Thailand to have a good time, and you are Indian, I am just saying that you may not want to be the kind of Indian Thai people dislike. Now if you are saying that "too bad" thats just the way 1.2 Billion indians (somebody please tell me if this is what he is trying to say), are just that and are not gonna do anything about it... thats fine too, just that you may not have such a good time in Thailand.
