It was afternoon (I think I mixed up my am's and pm's. Sorry) and the date was the 10th.

I did not (have to) check NEP after closing. But the reports that the bargirls converge there after closing time (from 1. 00 am than. Right? ) are correct. I did not see a single policeman in or around Sukhumvit/NEP. I don't know whether it's correct but the military have always been rumoured to be more "understanding" about the needs of mongerers. Beyond that. These rumoured "roundups" always sound to me more than a now and than police show-off rather than a sincere effort to clamp down on anything. These rumours are 25 years old.

The rest of Soi 4 looks much like the other soi's in upper Suhhumvit. Massage and beer and girls on the loose.

I'll let Bulydaddy give his answer but here is why I go. The view. Don't HAVE to pick up anything. The fact that the girls are not freelancers. Which means that there is a bit of control. And what you see is what you get. More or less. Plus you have an opportunity to talk and bail out after a few drinks.

Wild ones back home where they take every stitch of clothing off and pulsate it in your face. Pretty girls come up from down south (Like Baddabing on the Sopranos, or Isan girls coming to the big city). Then when you got the lump in yer pocket you go to the Asian Massage parlours for full service and a Korean massage after you bust (if it doesn't take too long). It might cost $200-$350. I've picked up pole dancers off the street after they get off work from NEP. Now that I think of it, back when the laws were more lax, and the Nana bellhops would ask you if you wanted some when you checked in, we'd get "goony" and I liked to go to one place over there (NEP) and watch the dude in the smock body paint the dancing girls w/dayglo zodiac signs while some willing pooyings would be giving us backrubs for 1-2 hundred bht. It was cool watching these nice bodies undulate the dayglo birth signs in the black lights. And I liked watching the girls all with bored looks on their face do the shower show. soi 8. [CodeWord900]. in a small side soi on the right if you come from sukhumvit. not as bad as one would expect. girls all in nice school girl dresses hanging on the chairs outside. it's about 2. 30 pm mind u. if you desperately need to unload. or just want to say i done that too. bbbj on the barstool. or upstairs if you're shy. if yo feel the need. this is a good time. pretty empty. a few of the girls looked as good or better than what you get in a massage parlour of medium standards. but it's a bit too much of the cuff so to speak for me. had a beer and continued.

soi 7/1 if i'm correct. pretty big and decent bar/poolbar on the right side. i didn't get the name. i needed to cool of a bit. a bit more than a dozen girls inside. and one very attractive one. in daylight. tempted but stayed with the beer. 3. 00pm. i could imagine that this place is as good as any to pick up a bottom line (in terms of baht) freelancer in the evening.

soi 7 proper and the famous beergarten where some claim you have to hurry to at this time of the day to get the best. let me put it this way. the best ain't very good. one cutie with the wrong kind of pimples in her face who had the world on offer in st in a seedy hotel room accros the road. (i'm sure she would have offered lt too). i wasn't tempted. this is a bit a "depressing" place. defenitely the low point of an afternoon walkabout. that's three beers and 4 pm.

soi 5. gullivers: real nice place to read the newspaper, check your email and play pool and enjoy the 5th singha. there are girls available. maybe half a dozen at that time of the day (4. 30 pm), mostly playing pool with each other. quality much better. better dressed and everything. but no eyecatcher.

soi 3. bamboo bar which wasn't open. the grace hotel with it's infamous coffeeshop.

soi 4. the nana hotel with it's infamous angels disco. i had already decided that neither would be on the itinerary.

and than the nana plaza itself. you have to see it by daylight.

walked down soi 4 and found another poolbar to cool off. it's 6. 00 pm. nice talk with a nice but not exceedingly beautiful pool hustler.

and by seven we returned to the beer bars at the entrance of the nana plaza. some really goodlooking bartenders. always good for a laugh but we went. to see that ritual. when the gogo girls on the way to the bars pay their respect to the buddha on the right side of the entrance to nana plaza.

it's something that had stayed with me as "special" since i my first visit to nana.

You don't need any names. There are several great bars/clubs around town that have talent. Q-Bar is just one of them. Just go there and see what's available and make your move. Some of the others are Spasso at the Grand Hyatt, CM2 at the Novotel in Siam Square, Rivas at the Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, and the nightclub at the Conrad hotel.

Just got back from 6 weeks in SEA, had a week in Bangkok and stayed at Giottos Lodge and definitely reccomend this place to stay. Also spent time at Majestic Suites between Soi 4-6 which was also good.

The Lodge lived up to all I've read, great service, great food, great rooms and great girls. You could spend a few hours chilling, have a few beers and chat and play pool and they were fine if you left. If you wanted to persue them they were only to happy to oblidge. Very nice- not pushy at all and some nice quality.

Found Giottos massage report and used that to sample the scene so here goes.

Eden, had never been. Picked one from each side and didn't get to put it up anyones back end, the girls were to busy trying to get you to blow twice other ways to pass the time. Probably wouldn't go back here based on that.

I still left well shagged so didn't pass comment to the Frenchie.

Tulip, went 3 times, this place has chicks with great attitude.

Twice went with single and once with two. Each time 2 hours and each time the girls begged you to give it to them up the date. This place rocks and is highly reccomended. ITs not the newest or cleanest though if that is a concern but its not to bad.

i have tried to explain why it is not. you are entitled to your opinion.

there are hundreds of people passing through these bars. i don't think they cry when someone leaves with a grudge.

what i tried to explain is that in the bar the girl might give you a gfe feeling for a hundred reasons. if you leave the bar or get to the hotel and that feeling "changes abruptly". for a hundred reasons. let go. let go. and since i assume you spent at least part of the evening in good enjoying each other. don't make a fuss.

don't get even. get back. to the bar.

now if you prefer to go and lodge a complaint with the bar, haggle about getting your barfine back and ruin your evening. be my guest.

because i have managed to develop a savvy from learning from many past mistakes and speak enough of their lingo i always have a grand time in asia and s.america, but it took me several trips to realize that generosity to them is a sign of weakness. my wake up call was in 2001 standing at soi 7 with this cunning, pushy 30ish girl i wasted a few days, and lots of money with and looking over at a 60+ y/o bald, hairy german with a huge belly in a speedo holding hands with a knock-dead, georgeous girl 19 or 20 and this dude was saying "no" to her req for some som-tam from a vendor. that and the fact that i drink much less now that carlsberg is no longer sold and have some knowledge of the lingo and culture is why i get the cream of the crop and spend less money. i don't lodge a complaint w/a bar unless the girl violates my property. my friends run up huge bar bills and spend it like drunk sailors while i never lose sight of my mission or my shekkles. if i have a bad experience at a bar i haul the gang to another nearby bar because i love to hear the girls whine when we walk past. just like i will go elsewhere when one of my friends gets dogged. the bar owners ask us why and i tell them. this works in pattaya because the bars are small. in bangkok i have never set foot in a bar or gogo joint. also, i beg to differ on the girl's attitude. it never changes, she usually had no intention in the first place of meeting your needs. she just wanted to get bf'd out of the place. after many trips and many experiences you can see a pattern in this behavior.
