I live in the middle of both Big C's. Don't think either are on fire at the moment. Can't see any smoke or hear any sirens. Big C North Pattaya did close at 17.00. All bars etc. should be closed. Think the fine for breaking the curfew is 1,200 US$.

    Stay in and stay safe.

The red shirts have arrived in Pattaya and are burning barricades of tires in strategic points, the police told us. As a measure of precaution, a curfew was imposed. I was surprised that almost everything (including 7/11) was shut down within about 1 hour. No access to ATMs for the next 2 days they say.

    Pattaya latest 19th May 2010

Seems I spoke too soon a few days ago when I said all was well in Pattaya.

Tonight, 19th May 2010, many of the entertainment joints and bars closed at 9:00 pm. Not sure whether its an (un) official curfew or just a general sense of nervousness about the possibility of angry Red Shirts heading to fun town after being booted out of BKK. Walking Street was pretty much shut when I wandered down there at 8:30 (though a number of a-go-gos were still in business, notably What's Up and Baby Dolls). By the time I got to Soi Buakoa around 9:00 everything (including the 7/11s!) was either shut or closing (though the night market was still going strong).

I expect the real facts will emerge over the next few hours and I'm sure this will be way out of date by the time it makes the message board.

On the upside, lots of confused looking girls wandering the streets looking for a home for the night.

    No Problem..

I was there in both Oct. And Feb. One of those times they were doing an exercise also. You could see some servicemen there. Mostly, they are accompnied by older gentlemen and I think many of them just walk around and look at the sites. I really don't think many partake. That was my impression.

I don't think it make one bit of difference in the availability of girls.

Sorry for the double post, I just read the report on them being in Satahip. It's an exercise between most of the military in Southern Asia. I believe it is a ground exercise so ships won't be pulling in. It's called CARAT(Cooperation afloat readiness and training) It's only 300 US and Thai Sailors and Marines. They finish the exercise on the 21st of May. They probably will get some days off after the conclusion of the exercise. I would not worry about them coming and pillaging the city. Nor should the prices raise for the ladies(hopefully). Like I said in the last post, If this was an Aircraft carrier or something big like that, then I would worry.

I read a report they are in Phuket. It says it was the beginning of May though. If it was any big ships, they would announce it. It shouldn't be any different hopefully. If it was am Aircraft carrier though, that would be bad news.

    Thanks!

To Ekspat, Saint Mint and especially Doppel One:

Thanks for the updates! That was incredibly helpful. I knew the boys would still show up... you can't keep the punters down!

It all sounded wonderful, except for when the US Navy showed up!

Does anyone know when that 2-3 weeks of Navy will end? I'm due in town 5/27 I think. (I wonder if they're hanging around in case the PM needs their assistance.)

Thanks again. I'll buy a beer for anyone still around.

it's the US Navy and they are in for 2 or 3 weeks (at Sattahip I think)

It's what used to be Cobra Gold

Are you saying that the US or Brit Navy is in town for a port of call?
