Can anybody here comment on the amount of tourists? Getting a lot of emails from state dept. About impending doom; I arrive on the 17th. Also wondering if they are raising prices with the baht losing strength against dollar.

    Thanks

That is, as long as you are experienced with the Dominican hustle and you take well to big ass girls it may be worth it to you. Also the travel costs & stress from Canada can't even compare. The Thailand disneyland sex scene is hard to match at any price though. You can only hang in the DR for so long though so Thailand carries another big advantage.
Personally, I have found tourist touts in Egypt and Morocco much more difficult to deal with than the Dominican hustle. In DR you absolutely have to be cautious with the girls, and lock up your valuables while keeping mostly sober, but otherwise than that its ok. In my Sosua experience I had no problems finding nice tight, young, small assed spinner type bodies. I would not fuck big assed chicks. Travelling to Sosua from Toronto is about four hours for less than half the cost than Thailand. You are absolutely right about not being able to hang out in Sosua for very long, but DR as whole has more to offer-not as much as Thailand though. Thailand is truly the magic sex scene disneyland. Cannot dispute that.

Fair enough. The concept of long time is very much a sex tourist destination concept. I was referring more to a two shot couple of hours experience. North American working girl services differ very much from service provided in destinations such as Thailand, Philippines, Sosua-DR. Its just some of the costs quoted in the Thai thread appear to me to be inching toward first world prices.

You guys will worry yourself into an early grave.

Of course have travel insurance, wear a helmet and carry your licence. And don't drive if you are incapable. Otherwise a scooter is absolutely fine.

The police checkpoints tend to be within easy walk of the police station on Beach Road and Second Road. Always the same spots. If you are carrying your licence and wearing a helmet it is unlikely to be a problem. I have never seen or heard of a drink drive campaign. I suspect if you are obviously drunk the police will arrest or fine you, and quite rightly so. In practice the traffic police are gone by dusk, and have better things to do.

Ass paying it! Unless you come to some sort of 'arrangement' of course!

I would always recommend wearing a helmet in any event, due to the appalling driving standards.

Although you rarely need to show a driving licence to rent a motor bike these Police check points, especially if manned by the Tourist Police, usually ask to see your Driving Licence.

You technically need an International Driving Permit if you don't have a Thai licence.
Let me add that there might be also occasional "don't drink & drive" alcohol tests. Some speculate that it is a nice way to increase the revenue of the local police station, rather than supporting th, e "drive safely" campaign and that the test is a bit. Dodgy and in favour of the police.

Whatever the reality is, apart that it is not recommended to D&D, this adds another factor to the "don't drive or don't ride" suggestions (if you are a farang).

An offence on D&D is far more troublesome than the fine for the lack of a crash helmet (I second Bonker, riding a scooter in Thailand is dangerous by default and an helmet is a must) or the lack of proper documents.

It will result in being deteined in the police station, be release thorugh a significant bail (30k be. I have heard) paid by a local, seizeing of passport etc. So not really recommended.

Rule #1 is that the farang is guilty.

If you don't think they will. They most certainly will.

If you do rent a bike then you have to assume that they will cut in front of you go accross 2 lanes to turn right in front of you, fill the half space with a whole bike in front of you and stop immediately for no seemingly good reason after doing all of the above. And I'm talking about the expats not the thai people. Thais are worse. But I've never let that stop me from renting a bike in Thailand every year for over 25 years. If you do get into a fender bender and it's not your fault, don't under any circumstances, let them move either vehicle. I've had two accidents both a thai persons fault and the first time I let the bike taxi move his bike out of the way for traffic purposes and he made it look like it was my fault. I ended up paying for both our bikes and my hospital. The second accident I had to jerk the keys out of the ignition so she couldn't move the van and the police saw that it was her fault so she paid everything.

The freedom of a bike and the fun factor are both good reasons to rent a bike. I rent from a british man across from the rome hotel on thappraya road on the way to jomtien. His prices are good and he carries the bigger bikes. One of them for sure has a truck air horn that comes in handy. I usually pay 150 / day.

Anyway have fun and drive fast and furiously. LAT

i hate to under-spend mr o****, but i have never paid more than 150 baht per day for a bike.
hope you have travelers insurance and notify the embassy about your next of kin information.

    Soi 6

I am a regular visitor to Soi 6, and have been used to paying the standard 700 + 300 baht charge. On my last visit I noticed more girls were asking 1000 + 300, and I have heard it suggested that this is now the going rate? Any comments?

And what does that make the going rate for LT? Previously I was paying 1500. 1800 + bar fine, and didn't have any complaints. I am reluctant to up this as 2500 baht total starts to seem relatively expensive for a Soi 6 girl.

The first time visitors goes to Kenya or Ghana. For kenya specifically Mombasa. You can stay on north coast beach or The village of Mtwapa. (Mtwapa is part of Mombasa district and is simpler to sosua)

After Kenya you may try Madagascar which outperform Kenya for the food, the girls altitude, and sightseeing. Again for non stop fucking go to mombasa. No short time concept so for 20 dollar you can take her for 24h or more.

Assuming you have been locked in prison for 10 years and just went out I may suggest Mombasa as first stop and then Thailand.

Forget Susua go to Africa it the origin, good only for sex Marathon, otherwise Thailand wins (hotels, food, sightseeing etc).
