My first pattaya trip in a few weeks. Have contacted a few thaifriendly ladies, none 20-30 year range because I'm retired range and like a bit of experience. After a few drinks asked about bar fine which was 1000 - it was still not 6 pm. Offered a high price so I didn't have to pay the drinking game.

There is no drinking game to play. When me and my boy were walking up and down Soi 6 the other night most chicks were down with 1000 baht plus the room. After 12 months away I touched down in the Land of Smiles at midday. In an unprecedented turn of events my Qatar flight arrived 40 minutes early but that was cancelled out by a long 45 minute queue at immigration. I took a taxi to Pattaya and slept for three hours as soon as I reached my room.

I'm excited to be writing this diary, not just as a way to give back to the forum that has helped me so much over the years, but I love to hear feedback from esteemed experts like Mr Enternational, telling me all the things that myself and other people who dare post reports are doing wrong.

I woke groggily and headed out to meet my friend Sam at 7 pm. I soon livened up when I saw how much more buzzing the place is than 12 months ago. New bars have opened on sois Lengkee and Buakhao and it's all-change in Tree Town too, with neon signs hanging over what is now a pedestrianised street. A security guard sat at the entrance, vigilantly glued to his phone.

As seems custom, Sam and I met at Blue Sky Bar, a good chilled place to catch up and observe the comings and goings on the street. Sam seemed well and continues to enjoy life in Pattaya, although declared himself skint until he gets his pension windfall later in the year. 'I don't buy lady-drinks any more' he joked, a worrying development as his extravagance with drinks is one of the reasons I enjoy bar-crawling with him as it takes the pressure off me! Given my long day of travel, I didn't know how long I was going to last tonight, so the plan was to go to a few of my favourite bars from previous trips, before visiting Myth, the recently opened beer bar complex.

Area 52 usually has some of the better lookers on Tree Town. My favourite was a skinny girl with dark skin, looking more Cambodian than Thai, although there were a few other nice ones, including a curvy girl I'd bought a drink for in Slutz previously. Three Russian men walked past, their 80's haircuts giving them away, each holding hands with their wife or partner. It has two lanes with identically sized beer-bars either side, so you can walk up one way and then back down the other, looking for talent. It reminded me of the sadly departed Drinking Street. I counted 15 bars on each row, so that's 60 bars in total, each with 5-10 girls. Although the girls were generally a bit older than I like to go for, the beauty of places like these is there are always a few gems to be found.

I couldn't resist picking Scammer Bar to sit at first, which had a cartoon of a man with empty pockets on its sign. We got seats at the front, which gave us a great view of people waking past. When I was working in China for several years I found that about half the people we brought over from either the US or Europe hated the place, and never wanted to return. It wasn't the people or the athe work or the place we stayed. It almost always was the fact that they were so far away from home. I loved China and I love Thailand. I find being on the other side of the world relaxing. If you make the trip the jetlag will only really bother you when you return home. You will be too busy enjoying life to be bothered by the jetlag in Thailand. By the way, outside of Texas the best food is in Thailand. Do yourself a favor and spent a couple thousand extra dollars and find out if you will love Asia. If you don't then at least you will know. Safe travels.

If you like sightseeing, then there is a lot to do, especially if you have never been to Thailand before. Not too sure about sightseeing in Pattaya as I am just looking at going there for the first time. But Bangkok and the surrounds has plenty of things to pass your time looking at. Temples, markets, boat trips and if anything to do with WW2 interests you, then there's day trips to places like Kanchanaburi (Bridge Over the River Kwai fame) and Hell Fire Pass (that's more for us Aussies). Get onto Trip Advisor and look for things to do and see if it interests you. Spend 6 days in Bangkok doing touristy things and night time fun, then head down to Pattaya and just have fun. That would be my thoughts. Can't talk about Pattaya as haven't been there, just planning, but have been to Bangkok and Phuket (another option for you) a number of times.

10 days is not much considering the endless flight.

Thailand right now might be a good plan if sex while LEGALLY high on cannabis is your cup of tea.

You cannot have a real feel of Thailand (or of any venue) by just looking at videos. They will give you a false impression 50% of the time.
