Agreed. Hooker girls are with guys for economic reasons. Being a permanent couple is not absolutely impossible, however you need to live with a girl full time for 2 years at least to really start to know her. If part time, then increase the years accordingly.

The quick "love" thing is bullshit. Real love comes very slowly over a very long time. Quick "love" disappears very quick too, due to a single minor incident.

I know a number of people who have married bargirls and are in happy relationships.

I know a guy that did that. He's multi-skilled and makes some money working online, which is the best choice as long one keeps quiet about it. They seems to be happy and all, but the wife came with one or two kids, now since he's a generous guy he doesn't mind providing for all. Being married you only have to deposit THB 400,000 for an one year-permit (plus taxing paperwork), that was probably the main reason why he did that. If they wanted to divorce that's simple, a spouse can attack only assets acquired after marriage. But in the show, when a male American goes overseas and brings back a chick to marry, 9.9 times out of 10 he does not have shit to his name. The matter has been debated a million of times in forums, but let's go with the most basic facts. There is probably millions of foreigners doing that, so one is inclined to think that it's absolutely doable.

If at least 50, can deposit 800 K THB, or have an income of 65 K monthly, or a combination of the two for a total of 800 K, then you can obtain an one year stay permit and renew it every year indefinitely as long the requirements are met. Even if the law doesn't explicitly prohibits, you will never obtain a permit to work legally, in practice the only job one could find is being an English teacher, which are paid consistently with the national average (that is, subsistence) and often treated poorly. And if you want to be an entrepreneur of some sort, good luck with the fact that you will never legally own, fully understand, control anything. That not even mentioning cultural acceptance, just have a look at Soi Bukhao bars patrons at 11am to see what I mean.

G. One that doesn't waste any time writing or reading forums. I also have doubts on the wisdom of shagging and bossing hookers in the medium and long term, but hey to each one his own.
