You get better exchange rates if you have a local Thai bank account and wire your money in. SCB is one of the best business banks here with enough sense for "normal" customers. Wire's are almost instantly accounted, when on Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn several days are used. Plus the exchange rates at SCB are always in the Top 5 as well.

That said, on your advice, I'll take look at Sao Paulo. I speak English and French, and have been working hard to build up my rudimentary Spanish, but I have no Portuguese. Could I have you opinion as to how much of a problem it will if I lack any command of Portuguese?

I am really curious about these two options you listed. Colombia vs. East Africa?
