Funniest thing. For years I use to stay at the Rajai Hotel on Osmena Circle. Every time I came the same lady was out there with a baby. I start noticing that, over the years, the baby never grew.

Will sometimes buy kids food.

Didn't you notice:

* You find these "poor beggars" only in areas frequented by tourists.

* Only tourists give them money.

* Most of these beggars are not even Thai (according to my Thai GF)

I don't think that you will EVER get people to agree on the 'Tip or not to tip' question.

As you say it depends on the culture you are from.

I am a Brit and our take on tips could probably be distilled into a few words.

I tip has to be EARNED by giving service over and above the normal service level. It is NOT an absolute RIGHT!

I have NO problem in tipping a few Baht when someone has gone out of their way to be helpful but, in MY opinion Tips have to be earned!

This was based on the fact that these young girls went out of their way to make my meals enjoyable by chatting to me and generally keeping me company. A US$1. 00/2. 00 tip was a BIG percentage of my food bill (and of their daily wage) but, to me, was well worth while for the enjoyment I had and for the attention I got on my next visit.

Yes I see your point you so strongly have tried to adress Marcos. But who cares if we are fools? Not the economy of P4P girls. I still pay average 3000 for a totaly doable BKK based P4P girl as I did 7 years ago. Then I prob was on the high side but lowered my stakes mostly bcs of people I was operating together with (as I allways have been a big spender. Bcs I can and like it).

If I would be so unlucky tipping one girl making it a riot in P4P market then I would realy think twice. But as far as I am conserned prices regulates itself du to known factors (sale / demand etc etc).

This I agree with and I have myself mentioned it a few times when the heat was on me for overpaying, tipping or whatever you like to call it. It is almost impossible to find stats of how many mongerers there are out there adjusted to how many members in ISG. My senseable thought would be we would not even come close to 1% maby far from that? But since I am a member I have lowered my compensation quite a bit and these day I go with the flow of people compensating girls and waitresses. I allways spend to much beeing out there (bottle service, extras, snacks, shots etc) but for me this is my freedom and I find it relaxing "beeing nice". I know I know it is not much worth and these days I go with normal average pricesettings for services (girls, taxi, restaurants, pubs etc etc). But why can not people just adjust to their own judgement when it comes to tipping and people trying to tell what is right what is wrong continue what they do. We come all from various backgrounds, we have different economics, traditions, behaviours, attitude, mood, kindness, emphaty, etc etc. This means FOR ME it is not ok to pay a girl 10000bht grabbed from Climax (even if that would not set me into bankarotto state).

In the end, do as you please but just remember whatever it is there are always consequences as long as you are willing to accept it do as you please it isn't going to change anything for some. For myself I have no pattern for tipping sometimes it's a little, sometimes it too much, and sometimes it is just plain stupid because I'm just having such a good time, to be alive and able to go out!

Well we don't care about the minimum salary for P4P but I guess in average, atleast the decent looking one, earn quite good in thai and phil standard (for uneducated girls). Regulars (none P4P), another story. But since the topic the last few days, in this thread, have been spinning around tipping and what is correct or not, I must admit I probably appreciate extraordinary service to some extent and then I leave good extras (tip). But for ordinary service (doing the job. I talk in almost all aspects here) I can maby run it up to the closest round number if it is not to much (dealing with coins and 20bht I rather not but I admit in pattis a 20 comes in handy fornthe Bathbus).

What's wrong with tipping 20 baht? If I get an hour massage for 100 baht and tip 20 baht that is 20%. And if I get one of those happy hour beers for 55 baht then 20 baht tip is 36%.

In Thailand and other places the money paid to the lady is a "tip." In Mexico it's a "donation." Both are just euphemisms for their fee, as the payment is not optional. A genuine tip, aka gratuity, would be over and above the amount agreed upon.

And, yes, never give your spare change to the lady holding a kid. It's not her kid. If you were to watch most of them over a period of time you'd see the kid changes every few months. The money goes to support some yaa-baa addict or some other nefarious Fagin. If some beggar is hungry, offer to buy them some food. That'll weed out the scammers real quick.

I was just joking since the guy who started all this mentioned even in the offering of sex act? Why tip? If I barfine a girl and pay the barfine and agree on 2, 000 for her and then give her something extra I would think that would be a tip, the 2, 000 doesn't count?

As for the baby and such, I fully understand that too and was meant as a joke. What you mentioned is a Mafia scam in general I see this a lot at the local markets.

At my favorite massage parlour the sex providers grimace when I try to leave maids more than 20 baht. LOL. To keep them happy I leave 20 baht.

My first taxi ride with my favorite asshole girl. She kind of grimaced when I gave the taxi guy a 25 baht tip on 45 baht cab fare. I give her 200 baht tip in her bar for just being pretty-she likes that. LOL.
