    IMHO the floods can never reach Pattaya, it's just too far away.

    Arrived in BKK yesterday, staying in Sukhumvit Soi 20, perfectly dry here, train from airport and MRT all was fine, but most buildings have sandbags in front of lower entrances as precaution. Anyway, who knows what to come? I don't. But I assume inner Bangkok west of the river will remain dry.

    Hi.

    When I visited Pattaya a few months ago, I saw some of these girls trying to pick up customers from Walking st. They were all freelancers. Not sure what they charge though.

    Also, there is a disco called Marine very close to Walking st, which is full of arabs. I've also seen some girls there too

    Cancel flight

    i actually think that there may be a better & larger selection of ladies available in pattaya at this time due to the flooded main city. who knows, i just wish the best for the thai people and i plan to have a damn good time.

    to devilspinkick.

    cathay pacific cancel some flight because many hk tourist cancel trip to bangkok many flight is only half full, there are good deal now on flight from hk to bangkok for only around 100 usd from tour company and tour package 4 night for as low as 240 usd with hotel, better check with airline before heading to the airport.

    We are basically saying the same thing. I meant the flood is a consequence of heavy rains fallen months ago.

    And I know Pattaya is fine now.

    BUT critic situation may change in the following weeks and move from Bangkok to the coast and to Pattaya as well. That is my concern.

    @Bionicman.

    Thanks for explanation. Didn't know that.

    @C4T.

    Yes, of course I don't need to book a hotel now, there are plenty of cheap ones I can find on the spot, but it's about time to book a ticket plane and there are not so many at cheap rates and good conditions (short stopovers for example). My idea is that tickets are inflated as well, but I can't guess if they rise more or go down now.

    Huh? Rainy season is well and fully over in central Thailand. The water now working its way through outer Bangkok is from rain literally months ago. None of which has any effect in Pattaya. Sunny and dry here, with plenty of drinking water, beer, and pussy.

    I do understand newbies' concerns given some of the silly fear-mongering still coming out. But seriously, the scene is Pattaya is perfectly fine now. Bit of a buyer's market in fact, which is a rare luxury in the high season.

    May thai flood jeopardize it all now? I know bad weather didn't affect Pattaya at the moment, but would clouds and rains move there in the next weeks?

    It seems it has been raining for months in Thailand, how long is it going to last?

    I don't want to run ten thousand miles and concern about the weather. I want my sun!

    Anybody got a link to accurate wheater forecast in Pattaya in order to monitor situation there?

    I'm also scared of price hikes and I wouldn't like to wait for weeks before buying my plane ticket to see if it's getting better because I'd rather avoid possible further increases.

    Thanks for your support.
    Just to generalize a bit about weather patterns in Thailand. I've lived here for 5 years. By January we "should" be well into the dry season. I would not worry about it if I had a trip planned. Of course you have to make your own decision. As for price hikes, well one would think that airfare might drop if seats are not selling. So far that has not been the case so who knows? It's my impression that hotel prices are currently inflated because of the massive influx of people fleeing Bangkok. That might impact you if you book your hotel now. If it was me I would not book my room until just before arrival.

    I read something about heavy monsoons blowing east behind this calamity. Maybe they will calm down and weather in Thailand will overall get better, maybe they will rage more furiuosly and it will get worse. I was a weatherman I guess I was dealing with these data and I could forecast something. It's quite is to find a good weather website giving you a proper sun / rain schedule for the next 15 days, but not so to explain in words what happened and how it is going to evolve now, in order to guess a further scenario.

    I was just asking this and I was wandering if anybody of you knows a site, a forum or a blog where finding more deteailled information about these issues.

    Thanks
    The floods of BKK (some areas, if you look at the map links repeatedly psoted here you will see that as bas as it can be, only part of BKK is wet) have been sort of manually induced to preserve other areas. This is the reason why some areas are dry and some are massively flooded.

    I am not an expert but in a pinch I'd say that if they let the whole of BKK be flooded, maybe 20cm of water will be everywhere, rather than having 1mt or more in some "selected" areas.

    Hmm thats even more puzzling. Don't know what your on about. Anyway, I for one won't be canceling my trip. More fun for me. I hope the crowds are way down compared to other years. Even a slight reduction welcomed.

    Dickhead, if your around late December the first schooners on me. There arent too many states they call them that. Hint hint.

    All good in Pattaya

    Just to say that I arrived last night. Met by Mr T taxi, which sped me to Pattaya in just over one hour (1000BHT). Staying at the Pattaya Bay Resort (1400 BHT). There is construction work going on in a nearby sort (reported elsewhere) but I can't hear a thing from my room. No sign of flooding anywhere on this side of Bangkok. It's sunny and there is a typical high-season holiday atmosphere. Plenty of girls and plenty of visitors.

    You might want to review such things as gravity, the tendency of water to flow downhill (meaning to sea level) , and the tidal wave that leveled Phuket in 2004. Just as a quick review, drainage tends to be more Of an issue at sea level as opposed to at higher elevations. Of course, sea level can vary, as was discovered in Phuket in 2004.

    For a brief refresher course, google "tsunami Thailand 2004."

    Note that if airports are flooded, planes have difficulty taking off, and ground transportation has difficulty arriving at them. You may want to arrange an amphibious vehicle just to hedge your bets.
    You are right. I just meant as opposed to BKK where there's no sea. Less chance of stagnant water. No idea what a Tsunami has to do with anything but Ill just hope one doesn't come then.
