It took me a few years (sometime in the mid to late 2000's) to finally make the trek to VM, due to the negative things that was said about the place. My buddies who checked it out before me made it sound like the worst place ever (just mentioning it made them cringe, LOL), took me a while mostly because I was busy with other things, but I finally said screw it, took a train (following instructions from these sites) and went solo. I've been going solo since and never saw anything to cause me any concern about returning.
Of course speaking Portuguese and having a road dog is always better, but don't let the lack of those things stop you. Do your research of how to get in and out of there and you should be fine IMHO. I'm sure Backdoor and other vets have better experience than me, but I'm just basing this on my experience and observations over the years.

Posts: 5Visting Rio In January around the 11th
Hello all,
I will be visiting Rio around January 11th for a week. I have been to Rio 5 times but. Not in the past 7 years. I was thinking about staying in South Beach (hotel) in Copacabana. I want to visit Centaurus. (Was my favorite term in Rio).
Is anyone going to be there during that week that would like to hang out?
Is there any recommendations for a Hotel similar to South Beach in Ipanema?
Is the WhatsUp used a lot in Rio. Can you connect with them in the States? Wanted to know so that I could set something up before I got there.
I will start with Hotside and see if I can set up something up before I get there.
Any recommendations for places to go while I am there or how to set something up with a girl before I get there?

My favorite is Vital Space Therapise on Pres Vargas 482 Room 1514. The girls there are all great and I did them all. Not one bad experience. My personal favorite is Gisele.

All great performers.
If you find yourself down in Barra the Tijuca where the Olympic venues were (take the new metro) about 100 yards from the metro station is a building that houses two Prives I liked:

Use this website to read great TDs.

Don't worry about speaking Portuguese. They don't care. I used google translate everywhere. Great thing about having Tmobile here in US is they give you unlimited data in Rio with 4 g in many places 3 G the rest.

This inflation. Will it ever stop, yo I don't know. Turn off the lights, and I'll glow..
Went to 4 x4 yesterday and they raised the prices another R$10 just for the heck of it. New prices:
- R$50 entrance - unchanged. Waived if sessioning before 6 pm.
- R$340 for 40 minutes
- R$360 for 60 minutes

Need the advice of Rio experts.
I had a good friend (not a working girl) who wanted to get her tourist visa to visit America. She owns a home and has a job. She asked if she could use my name when she went to the embassy and I agreed. I told her that she should probably go to Rio because it was much easier to get a visa in rio than it is in sao paolo. (I know former help girls who never had a regular job in their lives and they all got visas in rio.) Meanwhile, I know a few professionals, one even being a emergency room doctor who all got denied in Sao Paolo.
Well, in typical brasilian women fashion, she ignored my advice and went to SP for her interview. She just called me in tears because she was denied. They didn't give her a reason, they just denied her. Now she wants to know what she can do, if she should try going to rio now. I told her I was pretty sure that once you get denied, you are fucked. You can forget about getting a tourist visa now.
Is there any one from the board who knows if that is the case? CCn you still get a tourist visa after you have been denied?

Also, people in front of me with little luggage were waved on through.
I had many electronics in my luggage but I was not questioned. They X-rayed my luggage and sent me on through.

Those of you who arrived in Galećo the last 1-2 months, when you passed the customs with your bags, did all the passengers have their bags x-rayed?
I know they used to examine random passengers who got a red light when pressing a button. A few times I've seen them x-ray random passengers bags. However the last years I've only seen one custom guy around not checking nobody at all.
I'm curious if they have changed their routines and starting to x-ray all the bags of the arriving passengers ( a rumour I heard)? I'm not bringing anything illegally, just too much of some stuff that's being limited to a low amount.

Trash areas with no portugues will guarantee some inflated prices and getting hustled at times but its all a learning curve. You know VM for 1 hour shdnt be more than 130...half hour 50/60 etc roughly.
Prices are listed in T31 etc and MC,4 x4 etc u can see prices......dont tip everybody..maybe cloakroom lady in MC! shes great. f the rest
Check your hotel is GF. Got to book for 2 upfront. Etc. Bring them over. Lock your shit in the safe. Usual safety precautions.
