The Fairmont is pretty good. Not a true Fairmont, however, since it was originally an Accor Hotel, but after Accor bought out Fairmont corporate re-christened the hotel a Fairmont. Not a big deal, but if you ever stayed at a real Fairmont you would quickly notice the difference. Anyway, it is pretty good and it was girl friendly when I stayed there in April. That's why I am going to stay there again in November.

It's funny it was originally an Accor hotel. This hotel was probably built about the late 70's. It was called the Rio Palace hotel and was a high end 5 star hotel, celebrities stayed there as well as the Copacabana palace hotel. I've stayed there several times in the 80's. Then I guess it went downhill like many Rio hotels did. It changed hands a few times, I don't remember all the names but it also was a Sofitel hotel not too long ago. The hotel basically has the same bones as it did in the 70's.

I was from last Thursday to Saturday in Rio, was in Mabs 5 minutes Friday night (11 h30 pm), very empty about 15 girls and outside under the Mabs tent many spaces free (incredible for a Friday night), maybe 2 or 3 girls was nice to pay attention of them, no more.

To answer your question, I do not have papers and currently it's not a big deal. I can't go to the cinema now, but pretty much everything else is fine. You might have issues with the Christ statue and Sugar Loaf mountain but I can't confirm. I've been to both 4 x 4 and Solarium this week and these places don't require papers so you can rest easy.

That's Bangkok. I've never stayed at a non-guest friendly hotel in Bangkok. Do they even exist?

I suspect Rio hotels (and Colombia's too for that matter) just see it as an opportunity to charge extra. I mean they're more than willing to brush aside their righteousness for the right price, LOL.

I do not think you can pay a fee for the extra guest, the 2nd woman will be asked to wait in the lobby or she can leave. (Unless the policy has changed since I last stayed there.).

It will be my first time in Brazil so I will be staying in Copa for central location for sightseeing and good restaurants. Does anyone have recommendations for girl-friendly hotels? Price isn't an issue. I was thinking about staying at the Fairmont and even the Copacabana Palace for a night to see how they are.

But if money is no object stay at the Fasano. It is located across from Ipanema which is a better beach IMHO, and not far form Copa, but the main reason for my recommendation is that this small boutique hotel is a true 5 star with very well appointed deluxe rooms facing the beach, a great restaurant, pool, and it was girl friendly when I stayed there. It's only negative is beaucoup bucks.

It definitely is. But only two people per room are allowed and up to 3 in a suite. If you decide on a threesome, they might charge you for the third person.
