First off, thanks for the tips regarding Rio, perhaps I should get out more, there is quite a lot to do in this region. The wifing-up to Buzios trip sounds like a great idea. If I find a girl with good chemistry I might try that.
Last night (Thursday) I managed to get out to 4 x 4 for my first termas experience. I arrived around 7 pm. My mission was just to have a few drinks and scope the place out just to see what it was about as I was tired and wasn't really in the mood. Turns out that a couple of beers put me in the mood, so I did session once and ended up spending about 2 hours there.
This place has no shortage of great reviews but I'd like to add a bit of a newbs perspective. To understand where I'm coming from, I'll say that the only comparable venues I've been to would be Showpark in Prague and La Isla in Medellin. Obviously these different styles of venues given that one of them is actually a strip club. But in general, the premise is the same. A fun place where you grab some drinks, check out the girls and then go bang one of them.
What I liked:
- On a global scale, the price is pretty damn good. I mean 50 for entry, 20 for a beer and 290 for 30 min. Or 410 for 60 min. That would be about 10 USD entry, 4 USD beer, 60 USD for sex.
- No shortage of choices. There was a very high quantity of women.
- English-friendly. From the very friendly woman at reception to a few of the girls I talked to, this has been one of the most English-friendly places I've been to in Brazil.
- The Robe culture. This was my first-time doing the robe thing. I would say about 75-80% of the guys used them, maybe 20% in street clothes. The robe put me more at ease. No worries that some guy dresses better than you do, everyone is equal in a way. No worries about losing a wallet or phone (not that I really worry about that at a club, but it's one less thing).
- The stripper pole. Being a newb and solo, I didn't know what to expect from this kinda place. I assumed I might end up standing there, drinking a beer and staring at the wall until one of the hot girls was free. But no, they did have some entertainment to focus on. The strip show was fun, and a great way to check out some of the talent.
What I didn't like:
- The facilities aren't exactly glamourous. The center of Rio is pretty dirty and run-down. Unfortunately that is just the general trend in Rio. Barra / Ipanema are nice areas of the city with modern facilities but the rest of the city kinda looks like a dive. The rooms are kinda basic but didn't really seem dirty.
- It was way too crowded for me. I had read that it's important to go during the busy times (Tues-Thurs). Presumably this is to have the largest selection of women. Last night there was almost no place to stand and the most beautiful women were busy with other guys. I've heard that all these termas are quite small so I guess that's what you have to deal with. If you go with a group, that's a fun, cool, party vibe, but when riding solo, I prefer to sit, drink, and observe the atmosphere. Perhaps I was just a little late to arrive. I think I'll try to arrive in the afternoon or 5 pm to see if it's more to my liking. It would be nice to be able to sit down or approach some hot girl who isn't occupied with a group of guys.
- Being approached by the uglies. To be clear, none of the women were pushy. I just don't like the awkwardness of shaking off a girl I'm not attracted to. I'm very picky, and it's not very likely that the top 10% girls will ever approach a guy, so I'd rather not be approached and just put in the work myself. For some guys who are shy or open for anything, this may be a benefit, I understand.
My mixed feelings:
- it's pretty awesome to be able to visit such an establishment with such services at such prices so I don't really like to complain. I should however, mention to other newbs that they keep expectations intact. I've learned so far that Brazil has such a high reputation due to the service level of the girls here. I would argue it's not necessarily the looks. Perhaps the top 10% of Brazilians are hotter than the top 10% of Eastern Europeans but in general, Eastern European women are far hotter. You really don't have to worry about overweight girls there. So, I guess I was a little disappointed with the looks. Sure, most of the women were technically do-able, but how many would I want to spend money on? For me, the vast majority would be no. The good news though, is that yes, the top 5 girls I saw there last night, were definitely hot and would've been a really great experience. I should also note, that the performance of the one girl I tried was actually pretty astonishing. I couldn't really keep up. If she had been younger and hotter I might've tried to get her number and see her outside of the club.
I can certainly see myself visiting a few more times this month and I'm sure I'll have a great time with some of the hotter girls. Also, I really want to check out some other termas so I can make comparisons. My type of girl is definitely branca. I noticed more in Sao Paulo than here in Rio for sure. If anyone knows of a terma or prive that has the same amount or more brancas than 4 x 4, I'd be interested to know, thanks!

Me and my girlfriend were at an open air restaurant last night in her small Mato Grosso town, and a guy came through selling these sandalwood sachets for 3 reais, 4 for 10. Someone jokingly asked if it was for Condomble. Seen a Baptist church and Methodist church here, but have not seen a Catholic one.
They have an airport chapel in Sao Paulo. 15 and 20 years ago I used to go in there and lie down behind the altar to sleep while waiting on my connecting flight. I knew nobody else in such a devout Catholic country was coming in there.

Word of Advice to newcomers.
Sundays are pretty much a closed day for any real fun. Brazil is a very devout catholic country and family oriented as most latin / south american countries so some of these girls go to church or hang out with their family.
So Termas / Prives are closed.
If you arrive on a Sunday, your best bet is to hit up barrasvip or private55 and try to get a girl come to you or go to her place. As always it's best to schedule in advance (a week ahead or so before you arrive) as they could be out of the state, taking a day off or booked. It's always key to plan ahead.
You could also do some tourist stuff and explore the city which is a great option as well.
Also good time to buy supplies like sunscreen, clothes, etc and plan for the next day.

Single men are allowed in. They may pay extra to get in but are welcomed. Asha is a pretty standard night club with table seating, bar and dance areas. The orgies happen in the back rooms. There is one on the 2nd floor where only couples are allowed and the one on the first floor is for anyone however people tend to avoid this area because it is filled with creepy single men just waiting for something to happen. I would say the audience has a lot of barravip girls attending with their clients for the night. You have your real swingers, lesbians or couples just looking for excitement. You should definitely go with a girl you meet down here otherwise you are just a creep in the backroom LOL. Make sure you pick the right girl too or you will be stuck with a girl not really into the scene. Ask her if she is willing to swap or get involved with another girl before going. Or just have sex out in front of people. Portuguese is needed but if anything let your girl do all the talking and just nod your head. LOL.

Finally: here I come, but arrive Sunday AM and want to know of clubs, prives or other means of available companions for a Sunday lunch and some fun afterwards? Seems Sunday is a bit dead, and I will definitely need some fun after a long flight from Boston. Any ideas or mercy referrals?

Posts: 28Thanks for everyone's help and is three weeks to long?
Thanks for the reply about single guys at Swing clubs. Finding a Terma girl who speaks English seems like a good idea. I'm trying to learn a few Portuguese phrases but I know that's won't help at all. I would be going to back to Thailand where it seems like half the girls speak English very well but since I don't have time to quarantine Brazil seems to be well with the trip. I've taken members advice and staying in Copa so hopefully my lack of speaking the language won't be as big of a deal. I love the beach and all the girls of course but right now my trip is 3 weeks long. Am I going to get bored? I was in Pattaya for two weeks and could have stayed a month for sure but Rio is different of course.

One option is to find termas girls who speak some English and are agreeable to "swing" outside the club. I would spend some time with her in a session at the termas or your place to make sure the two of you are copacetic together. There you have both your "plus one" and a translator.
If you really like attending swing clubs solo, Whatsapp the club using Google Translate to see how amicable they are to a single man with no Portuguese visiting.

If you intend to stay in Rio for one more month, I'd encourage you to take in a little more territory. Visit Petropolis (a very pleasant trip to the mountainous old capital of Brazil), go to the resort town of Buzios for 3-4 days, ditto for Ilha Grande and Parati, from where you can further explore the Emerald Coast (Parati and the Emerald Coast are also doable from SP). If you aren't able to wife up for these trips, that's not a problem for every town in Brazil has some GDP presence. Resort towns like Buzios and Parati certainly do.
I don't know what you've already seen in Rio, but you could do some Centro walking tours (there are some great free tours where you just give them a small tip), go to the Cathedral and Benedictine Monastery, walk up Celeron steps from Lapa to Santa Theresa. Vagabundo also mentioned some waterfall hikes that sound interesting to me, if that's your thing.
I mean I don't think it's possible to run out of sites to see in and around Rio.
