There are basic security measures to prevent pick pockets. Wear pants with security pockets (zippers even shirts with Velcro closures).

Concerning "look (ing) like an idiot:" there are 3 main reasons why one might stand out with a girl at a 5 star resort like the Hyatt Barra; the age difference, the girl's appearance or dress, and her behavior in public. As far as these issues are concerned, I mostly don't give a fuck what others think plus I am pretty sure nobody really cares anyway as long as the girl's appearance and behavior is fairly reasonable and not too slutty. The bottom line is I think it depends on the quality of your GDP. For example, I have invited over some very attractive Barra Vip girls & Terma girls and nobody at the Hyatt, staff or guests batted an eye.
Did you take them to the pool or the beach? Hyatt expressly asked me not to bring them to public areas. I don't see how they would enforce it, but I normally just have them for a 1 hour session so never tried anyway.

All rooms have balconies. The rooms facing the ocean are the most expensive while the rooms facing the lagoon are the least expensive, but both types of rooms have great views so unless the hoel wants to upgrade my room for free which they have done for me a few times, I don't care.
They also have rooms facing the pools, which I would consider the least desirable. I normally book oceanfront, and this time when I asked for a late checkout they moved me to a lagoon-view room in the afternoon. I was surprised how much I liked that view and the room. Very peaceful.

It is roughly 40 minutes by Uber to 4 x4 which is not as bad as it sounds since an Uber from Ipanema to 4 x 4 is around 30 minutes, but if one is planning to fool around in Copa late at night at places like Casablanca, Kalabria, MAB's, or Dolce Vita it would be better to stay at a nearby hotel like the Marriott, the Hilton, or Windsor California. Xpartan had a good plan; stay in both areas. It is too bad he had to shorten his trip. But you are a standup guy, Xpartan, to cut your trip short on account of a "family emergency". A lot of jagoffs wouldn't.
I wouldn't have done it for everyone, but that particular family member is totally worth the sacrifice, kkkk.

Do you want me to rely on memory?" to which the guy, there were two women also, somewhat cheekily replied that they could come here and the staff would be happy to tell them all about it. Sigh. So I memorized the one hour pricing and headed out the door to put the details in a note:

    Prices in Reales.

(At posting time 100 equals about $27 CAD, $19 USD, 16 Pounds, 18 Euros.).

    150 entrada, 180 cabina, 470 the girl = 800.

If you pay everything in cash its 730.

If you pay the entrance in cash when entering you "win," a free drink.

If you pay for the girl with a card it's, I think, 50 more? Sorry. Some info leaked out of my brain as I exited. It's definitely more though.
If you sign up for their emails you'll get a little discount. Last time I got 40 Reais off the room. 8 bucks is 8 bucks.

Well Two out of the three of us found our phones missing on arrival at hotel! The hands on had been hands IN pockets. Both of us spent half the night changing passwords etc. Mega buzz killer. Just don't walk at night period IMO.
Never let anybody you don't know get all up on you and all handsy! You absolutely can walk around at night but you can never let your guard down ever. Which means not letting strangers get all close and touchy feely! And don't be walking around drunk either! An expensive lesson learned.

    List of pirves in Copa?

Is there a list of pirves in Copa or that area. I'm staying in Ipanema. I know 583 and eden spa and Delirio Oriental. Two times ago when I was here about two years ago I went to centro once but I found it hard to navigate all the big business buildings to find the prives. Any suggestions? To add my two cents I did enjoy both whiskeria 65 and club New York. Any other places you would recommend.

Appears the guy was not trying to shoot, only scare and batter the guy. But since he had his finger on the trigger when he slapped him with the gun, the gun fired.

You are walking down the street drunk in a foreign country when 2 locals try to rob you. You tell the robbers to leave the vicinity and they did? You must be Batman.

Never had a problem with this and I have been walking that street alone at all times of night for over 20 years. The problem is not walking. The problem is letting someone get up on you. Were they chicks or dudes? Good video from a couple weeks ago.

Copa IS in the middle of 3 favelas.

That is a direct observation from one of my regulars, who lives in a favela.

That's why I live in Barra, and advise anyone staying longer than 3 days to do the same.

Inspired by a friend of mine who always wears shorts with four zip up pockets. Two up top in front and two below in front. None in back. I ordered the same from Amazon. No-name brand but great quality and look. The pocket I keep my phone in gets unzipped and zipped countless times per day, now for more than three months, and has no sign of failing.

Pickpockets probably move on to easier targets. I hope.

Got to be it, address matches up too, thanks. By the looks of the video, doesn't look like it had anything to do with the club or anyone in there which is why maybe the club is not named anywhere in the articles I was trying to search, the staff look shocked as well and caught off guard. Stay safe out there everyone.

There's an area along Ave Atlantica where the girls (trannies actually) swarm guys for the pick pocket.

Keep your hands in your pockets and firmly say no obrigado, and keep a brisk walk, or just cross over to the beach side of the road, along the kiosks.

  14. #27915
Vagabundo too is sorry to hear about that, but concurs with Sperto. Further. That just doesn't happen in Barra. Barra is the real rich, mostly white (unfortunately, it is de facto whites only) area where a broken windows theory of policing results in zero tolerance for property theft like that.

Just search Posto 2, Barra, for places.

Also, just make a little wrist leash out of some parachute cord for your phone.

Phone theft has claimed victims who are air force officers as well as dozens that I alone hear about from ISG-ers every year.

Think prevention. As a rule, in high risk areas, like centro, when I have my cell phone with a wrist leash out, I also have my taser flashlight out. The locals know it is a choque flashlight, and no one wants to get tasered.

Kalabria is pretty cool-basically a small bar with some girls around it. Go in and scope it, have a beer, pick one or don't. I think there's a room on site but most people takeout. Casablanca is similar (although I could be thinking of Marakesh) but with more of a club / disco vibe, sort of a cross between Dolce Vita and Kalabria. Actually yeah that's Marrakesh. Casablanca straight up club.
