Went there last night and here is my review:

We walked in and got an entry card. No cover charge. Go upstairs and change entry card for a locker key with your number. Don't have to change into the robe if you don't want to. Only one level is open — the boate room. Approx 12 Girls standing around and a few guys. Small bar. Good looking women.

Rates start at 270 for 30 mins and go up depending on time and type of room.

Are you interested in some touristy stuff? Do Sugarloaf, Corcovado, enjoy the beaches, go on some walking tours, etc. If you're not pressed for time, take a day tour to Buzios. Buzios is a really nice place. Different beaches on the various fingers of the hilly peninsula. Lots of water activities. Decent restaurants.

You hit the nail on the head. Wifey up before going. Rio working girls love being invited to Buzios. The nightlife generally caters to young, affluent Brazilians. You would need a lot of game to pick-up a civilian in Buzios. The civilian girls are likely with groups which adds more challenge of breaking them away from the pack. While it's only about 100 miles from Rio Centro, it can be very slow getting there. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend a day trip.

As far as safety in Rio, there is no reason not to Uber / taxi door-to-door at night. Periodically, we have these discussions and some members post about their street wits and never ever having an issue. Either have I, but I go the way of being as safe as possible in any city.

Just kidding. Do you speak Portuguese? Are you young and pretty? For regular, non-pro nightlife, go to Lapa, especially if you like Samba. This is the bedrock of Rio nightlife. Google Lapa clubs to get some ideas.

Keep your wits about you at all times. Don't get drunk on public. Don't leave your drinks unattended. Rio is awesome, but it's not a safe city, no matter how much we love it here.

Is the Buzios nightlife really that great? I've never been there, and always thought of it as kind of a quiet, sleepy place. Thus, the need to take a girl there with you versus finding somebody there. What's there to do at night in Buzios (non-mongering)?

This is said by locals in damn near every big city in the world. Again, never had a problem. If it is beyond your comfort level though, better safe than sorry. Here is a shot of the Cathedral that I took while walking in that area back in February late at night with my Galaxy Note. Seems pretty peaceful to me. But one man's peaceful is another man's dangerous as hell. I get that.

I stayed in Centro my last two trips (Close to the Carioca train station). During the daytime, Centro is awesome!! 5 minute walk from my hotel and I was viewing the lineup in my favorite prives. 10 minute walk to the termas. Many different choices for places to eat and beautiful women walking to work. That being said, at night time, things change. Whenever I left the termas between 10-11 PM, I always had my head on a swivel as I walked back to my hotel. The street lighting is very low and it is quite dark and deserted on many of the main roads. There were a number of streets where I could have very easily have been robbed and there would have been no witnesses! I don't recommend staying / walking around Centro at night alone, unless you know how to carry yourself and know what to look for.

Centro is where Rio de Janeiro works. Every day. What you mean to say is stay away from Centro after business hours, well maybe. Even then, I stayed at a Centro hotel, walked around after dark, dined and wined and still lived to tell the tale. But OK, Centro after dark. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

But avoiding Centro altogether is simply dumb. Even if you don't care about cheap Centro prives and termas (you should), it's a pleasure to just walk around, there are beautiful old buildings, churches, the monastery (St. Benedict?) was the most beautiful old thing I've seen outside Europe, not much from the outside but the interiors are stunning. Walk to Lapa, climb the stairs (standalone tourist site, BTW) to Santa Teresa, a run-down but historic neighborhood on the hill, ride the tram down, get lunch in Confeteria Colombo, if just for the ambience. I mean, seriously, take an organized tour if you're that concerned about safety, but don't dismiss Centro. You haven't really been to Rio without seeing the other side.

That Rio is not a safe destination. Totally true, though. Stay alert.

As note of caution about Centro at night, this was posted in Portuguese on social media by a Carioca in reply to anther who was saying he was ASSALTADO! And 'phone stolen in Lapa.

Violence in Rio is getting worse! 15 days ago, I had the same experience at Largo the Carioca, it was a Monday night, around 21:40, I was tired and heading towards the Menezes Cortes terminal to catch my bus and return home after a long working day. But on the way, I was approached by an FDP who was therefore holding a pistol and had to hand over the cell phone I had just bought. I am using my tablet momentarily as a cell phone, but the revolt still plagues me! At least, I didn't get hurt and it was just a big scare!

For those not in the know, FDP meaning is is filho the puta or son of a *****. Its a know fact thief's the world over get busy this time of year, they need money to buy nice gifts for mom, wife and the amante (side chick).

Adding: There is a reason that Gpguia, Gparena and other local forums have Club 116 in their trash sections.
There are many trash puteiros in centro. They are fun and sometimes there are gems. Still the percentage of beautiful girls in trash puteiros is much lower than in prives.

I have to agree with Sperto here. I went to all these centro trash clubs last year and this year. The majority of the girls 80-90% are old, out of shape, past their prime hardcore pros. I got lucky last year and stumbled on two gems, one at rua alfândega, 119 and the other at rua Uruguaiana, 210. This year no luck at all.
