I will be having a lay over in Rio starting Dec 30 to Jan 1st & will be by myself. I had visited Rio with my fami ly the week before but didn't have a chance to sneak off to a Terma Then. On the 30th I was planning to Visit Monte Carlo in Copacabana because I was told by some locals that 2-3 million people will be in the Copacabana area for New Years eve & they didn't know if the Termas would even be open then. My Hotel this time is in the Centro Area so I was thinking maybe Cancun or MV30 on Dec 31st & Jan 1st. Does anyone know if any termas will be open Dec 31st and Jan 1st?

I confirmed with the staff at Monte Carlo that they will be closed on 12/31 and 1/1 and will reopen 1/2. It's safe to assume the other termas will do the same. Other than Mabs, the easiest option would be to go the photoacompanhantes route.

Before the holidays someone asked if it was a good time to monger in Rio.

I explained that Christmas was a time for family and New Years was a time for family and lovers. I further explained that if you know Brazilian culture, speak Portuguese well and know how to handle yourself, that there will be lonely women looking for companionship. If you are strictly pay-for-play the pickings will be slim. In addition, things will slowly get back to normal January 2-3.

For some, Christmas and New Years in Rio can be a wonderful time. I have awesome memories. However, for the pay-for-play monger, the normal venues will not be open.

It is funny because we live 2 blocks from the Solarium one. I remember the last time we were in Rio my wife pointed it out to me and said there are hookers there. Wondering if it is too close to home.

Is it safe to assume there is no action in Buzios?

It was the case a few years ago, but it seems that some indies have decided to fill the void. Use the link Rio Bob gave you and please tell us all how it worked for you -- I might hit Buzios again when I come in February. Haven't decided yet, something tells me I must finally visit Parati and Angra after all these years.

Still stuffed from lunch but wanted to get out of the hotel and maybe do a program if I felt up to it and found the right girl.

Passed by New 81 on Rua Quintanda on the way to Terma 65 on Rua Rosario. Closed, no sign. Went by today and the sign was down on the sidewalk. Maybe they're fixing the sign but looks more like they went out of business.

Entry to 65 now 40 consumption. Went up, had a 25 real caipivodka in the boate. Maybe 20-25 girls, 30-40 guys. Vibe much better than 502, girls and guys dancing to the DJ's good music selection. Looked in both the boate and whiskeria, only two girls doable for me. One girl-next-door type who seemed more interested in being a DJ than in getting a customer until someone came for her by the DJ booth and she went with him without any conversation. The other looked Romanian and did not look too happy so did not bother trying to talk to her. Finally decided to leave after an hour, so got a beer to go to use up my consumption, and left.
