No matter where you go in Rio, violence, shootings and robberies can occur. Since I went to Rio the first time 1991 I've never been robbed. No need to worry as long as you use common sense. Just enjoy yourself. Going around being scared is a big mistake. The bandits and thiefs can smell your fear just like dogs and you'll more likely be a victim.

Like I said, the Sheraton is great, your buddies will love it.

They'll make you register guests, at no charge though.

That said, during the daytime you can usually walk right to the elevator with your girl, they won't notice.

I walk to Vidigal during the day for food, farmacia, etc.

Anywhere you go there's always some sort of risk.

Every country has its ups and downs, it's good side and bad. I have travelled and worked for long periods in other countries. I just spent 8 weeks in America around California. I can't say that everyone I met there was a laugh a minute. Having said that I love America and am very grateful for everything it has done for my country. Having been in Brazil every day for the last three months and three months last year, I know a hell of a lot of Brazilians who work every minute of the day. They don't lead a holiday filled life at all. I have also met loads of Brazilians who are completely fed up, poor and are totally devastated by the violence and corruption. They don't seem to be living a fun filled life either. My friends in Brazil range from doctors, lawyers, police to hairdressers and hookers. None of them are having what I would call amazing fun filled lives. They all have the same pressures that we all have. You might also want to remind yourself that it's the hard work that others put in around the world that creates what we have today. Things like advanced medicine, technology, space travel etc. All these things come from dedicated people around the world who work very very hard. Any beach resort where people sit in the sun all day, get high on drugs and drink, isn't usually the epicenter for leading the world in anything. Other than of course our favourite past time.

The most boring country I find is in Western Europe, the hardest country I've lived in so far is Japan but I am not bored out here at least because I also have good time. And the best country I've spent my best long vacation is Brazil and Russia. Canada is boring but not the most. Now my fucking employer wants to send me to Europe (UK, Sweden, Holland or Germany) next year, I am thinking of stepping down.

I am sure many of you would like to live in Brazil if you have the chance.

I really miss Brazil, I can't wait to be back in August.

Brazil makes us healthier and happier. That's why it is important to never waste one single day when we are in Brazil. Happiness is good for your health.

To avoid safety issues in Copa you choose to to stay in Sheraton, with Vidigal as a close neighbor...
I doubt you'll run into any major problems but you might wake up at night from shootings.

I can't stand the UK, that's the most boring country followed by some western European countries. Regular clubs in London are just good to drink and get drunk with other dicks. People just live to slave away.

I go the UK to fuck British women, not eastern European women but I never go to the UK because I have no interest in British women. I just stop over in the UK when I travel with British Airways.

LOL. That door swings both ways. What about the foreign chick that gets invited to a guy's country or even worse marries him and moves there just to find out what a slob he is, or that he lives with his parents or roommates and that he doesn't have shit to his name. He was just trying to escape his home life too! That is an oft played out scene on my favorite show 90-Day Fiance. Both sides trying to maintain the illusion. That is why I am not impressed by looks. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't remember this type of violence in the nice coastal areas of Rio before the pacification policy starting around 2010/2011. The biggest concern before was mugging, pickpockets and petty beach thiefs. The gangs wouldn't disturb the tourist economy.

I have always avoided trouble by not walking around quiet streets at night. At night, it's pretty much door-to-cab-to-door. Perhaps that's too cautious, but it works for me.

Can anyone who is currently in Brazil, please give an up to date report on the Brazilian bills that have "free lula" stamped on them. Seems it has been causing issues in regards to some stores or people in general who are not accepting those marked bills. If this is an issue, then one must be extra cautious when exchanging currency.
