    Apparently so

I first found out about Bolsonaro from this forum and then researched him further, the foreign press starting paying attention as well.

This guy sounds even worse than Mr. T. Mr. T. has more limits than he has and I can not for the life of me believe that anyone could think that anything good could come out of him being elected.

Insane to say, but Trump is mild compared to him and now that Trump has been elected, the worst fears of a lot of his detractors have been realized and more.

The warning signs were there about his autocratic nature which tolerates no criticism and his extremely self centered agenda, now that he has been there a while, people's worst fears are being realized. About the economy, it was on the mend way before he got elected and the unemployment figures which he disputed but no longer, were way down long before he took office. Injecting an economy full of cash while it is at a peak in the cycle is quite dangerous and besides the deficit exploding, there might be hell to pay further down the road. About debt, I can't believe any right winger is still blaming the left for this when numerous right wing governments have exploded government debt.

This guy sounds totally insane and only the most dogmatic right winger in denial of reality could endorse someone so insane and think any good could come out of it. Will your mongering options be affected, not sure, but will Brazil go to hell for a while, most certainly.

I won't defend many supposed left leaning governments as well, one of the ones I hate the most is Maduro's Venezuela. Are people in denial about this potential, probable, President of Brazil. Don't say you weren't warned.

Are we seriously debating Brazilian left wing and right wing politics here? Sorry Trump comparisons don't really work either. I'm pretty sure we can all find fault in the policies of all the candidates and the leaders of the past.

If Brazil wanted to follow the Asian model, it would have to attract and retain capital, tamp down wage growth and run trade surpluses for several years. I'm not sure how skilled and motivated the Brazilian work force is compared to Asian countries at similar stages of development. Brazil is not rich enough to pursue stimulating consumption. I've also heard that tax collection and tax law enforcement needs improvement.

    Not True

Brazil's external debt / GDP ratio was record high at 44,8 %, when Lula took office in 2003 and was at 16,42 % when he left in 2011. This is typical right wing propaganda, which some people swallow without chewing and is not supported by statistics. https://www.ceicdata.com/en/indicato...of-nominal-gdp.

Surprisingly left wing politicians have been better to control budget deficits in many countries (some others not so much). Clinton after Reagan, Obama after Bush and now Trump has exploded the US debt, but hey, that's OK as long as the money goes to the rich people's pockets. Now Bolsonaro will start his boi, bala e biblia politics and destroying democracy, when he should pull the poor out of poverty.

OK, so what about the flipside? It's OK to overlook the mean-spirited rhetoric of somebody who would lead a nation if that will make people, essentially people just like him, rich? To me, that's just another brand of evil. We need to be concerned about what kind of society we live in too. I would posit that the choices are not all mutually exclusive. As that one former American president once said, how about a "kinder, gentler" brand of conservatism where a larger swath of people are sincerely welcomed to stand under a big tent of prosperity?

People always, always, always seem to forget that what goes up always, always, always must come down. It's just another temporary house of cards built on fiscal irresponsibility. Like lowering taxes while continuing to borrow against an uncertain future and spend like mad! Who will really have the guts to do what it takes to act responsibly and control spending, lower the national debt, and balance the budget? The answer is nobody until it's too late. Yeah, I'm loving my investment portfolio right now too. Riding high! But I'll tell you what. I don't care who is in office, one day it will swing in the other direction, and it's going to be ugly, just like the last time! Hopefully I will remain in a good position to protect my assets when that happens. Because it most assuredly will. Never succumb to "irrational exuberance". Prepared to go bear at a moments notice.

A very good political analysis. Regarding the violence. It really has gotten very bad in all of Brazil. A shame about Curitiba. It used to be one of the safest and neatest capitals in Brazil.
Rio always had problems with crimes and violence but the situation has become out of control in many parts. It's really messy. Bandit gangs like CV, TCP, PCC, ADA and militia, police and army, everybody is fighting. The police suffers from corruption, unpaid salaries and a high rate of police being killed on duty. It doesn't matter if you live in a favela or an upperclass area, everybody is affected by the violence. It's not a surprise Bolsonaro wins votes when he promise to fight corruption and crimes.

I've made that observation as well. I find it very ugly hoping that Brazil is going down the drain just so they will have more desperate women eager to spread their legs when they flash a few USD.

    Or.

Socialists: more debt, chase all capital out of the country, more lawlessness, and eventually a shit show on brazilians.

Right Wing Policies won't help Brazil. The Current President Michel Temer in the last 2 years had Pro Business Market Friendly Policys and Tax Cuts and it has done nothing to improve the current situation. So I don't know how Bolsonaro is going to change anything.

Less Tax Revenue To the Treasury means huge government debt. At least america can turn on there printing press because the Dollar is the Reserve Currency But even that bubble is about to explode as by 2022 We will be paying more interest to the federal reserve then the Miltary Budget and Social Security Budget Combined. Where looking at 2008 all over again.

    Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro is a mixture of Trump and Duterte. With Lula in prison it was easy for him to win the election. People believe in him. He will get the economic going well, fight corruption and win the war against criminals. Easier said than done.

It will be interesting to see how the effects will be on the mongering scene. More expensive of course as the real is strengthening. If the brazilian economy gets stronger that might lead to more privées as the locals will have more money to spend on bunda. I just hope the evangélicos don't put pressure on Bolsonaro to close down privées. If Bolsonary manages to fight crimes and violence the cariocas might feel safer and start to go clubbing again like they used to. That would mean more girls on the clubs. Nobody knows how the monger-future looks in Brazil.

I would never consider to change playground because of Bolsonaro. Brazil will always have a nice mixture of pro's and regular girls.

What's happening in Brazil with Bolsonaro's likely victory is a repeat of global trends the last few years. Voters' preferences are breaking down into clear, polarized divisions. I'm not sure that voters clearly understanding the political differences is so terrible. Liberal journalists don't like strong right-leaning parties. They prefer and encourage centrist parties with a leftward drift.

If you like two parties playing in the center, you can look at Germany where you have two major parties virtually indistinguishable from each other. Extreme parties are gaining seats in the Bundestag while the two major parties play footsie with each other.
Bolsonaro will become another Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines. They think there tough talk and allowing police just to murder drug dealers without protocol will just make crime go away. Philippines is in worse shape then ever before, With More Drugs, More Crime, and Soaring Inflation with Higher Food Prices and a there currency devalued. Bolsonaro Victory will definitely help the Brazil Real as his economic advisor is looking to privatize everything from Healthcare to the Brazilian Rainforest. So after the honeymoon is over. Look for everything in Brazil to be super expensive. Which will create a war zone.

    New Year's Trip.

If anyone has any apartment rental connections, (4 bedrooms / 4 guys) in Leblon, Ipanema, or Copacabana. Please PM me. Rates are 2.5 x on AirBnB, and many of them have incorrect pricing.

Any advice or information would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for non-pro restaurant / bars that might be good for a group a gringos? I remember a place in Leblon, in 2012. We went every night, and pulled every night. However, I can't seem to find it. I'm guessing it's long gone. It was a two-story bar, with music upstairs, just a couple blocks up from the beach.
