Lucky bastards who are down there for it this time. World Cup was amazing-mad buzz in the city and girls were there in abundance.
What was the markup during World Cup? For termas, street girls, and massages / prives?

    Overhyped

Like everything else about the World Cup, I think the expected large influx of GDPs, unless you actually were there like I was, was over hyped.

Yes, there were a few foreign hookers and also an exceptionally large number of Argentines pissing in the streets. All the local businesses who thought they were going to get rich pretty much took it and the FIFA shorts.

Will the Olympics be any different? Who knows? Brazil can't even decide which politician is the most corrupt.

    GIG to GRU from USA?

    Thanks.
If you and your wingman haven't booked your flight to Rio yet, I would recommend flying into Sao Paulo first. This way you can clear customs then get to the action and not have to sit and wait a connecting flight only to have to fly back into Rio. Sounds like it may be a short short stay if you're only taking a carry-on. The time you'd wait for the connection + flight time you can put those hours back into the hobby side of things. Or more so, rest a bit from the flight and be fresh, ready to go. Also, another thing about Sao Paulo is. The earlier your arrival, the better. Traffic is a beast from Guarulhos to the city.

All of the major US carries have direct flights into Sao Paulo:

American: MIA to GRU (2 direct flights) -- DFW to GRU -- JFK to GRU (codeshare, Operated by TAM).

Delta: ATL to GRU -- DTW to GRU -- JFK to GRU -- MCO to GRU.

United: EWR to GRU -- IAD to GRU -- IAH to GRU -- ORD to GRU.

Rio is Still unparalleled in South America

Rest assured there are no shortage of options in Rio. Also, reports of Rio going to the dogs as a result of economic upheaval are vastly exaggerated. While unemployment is up and petty street crime is on the rise, Rio has never been the safest of places. Use your head; don't walk around late at night in Copa on your own unless there are crowds around, and don't' be too flashy.

From a mongering perspective, while there's no longer a puta's Mecca (Help), the city still draws attractive girls from all over the country looking to make a quick buck, in a myriad of establishments. As a result, your options are still pretty good, and the girls are unparalleled in terms of their eagerness to please and services on offer.

The Olympics will be a lot of fun. While the logistics may be a disaster, and the venues and site concessions well below the standard of previous games, Brazilians throw a good party. And while the initial estimates of 1. 6 million visitors will more likely turn into 600 k-1 m, depending on a variety of factors, that's a lot of people descending on one city. You can expect Mabs and every other spot in Copa to be rammed every night as girls from all over the country try to make some USD / Euros.

You will have a great time as the city will really be hopping.

The World Cup was fun, and I'd expect the Olympics to be much better as the entire event is concentrated in Rio.

If you're in Sao Paulo with a wingman and out late on a Wednesday-Sunday night, I highly recommend paying a visit to Love Story. Easily my favorite dancing / GP locale in SP. Tends to attract a lot of the working girls who've finished their shifts at the higher end spots and want to party. However, as they aren't at work, you sometimes have to put in moderate effort to close, which can be sort of amusing.

Also gets lots of rich Paulistas who have fantasies about being a working girl for a night or two, which can also be loads of fun. About the most eclectic mix of people you'll ever see in a club: working girls, drug dealers, business men, rich kids, and a few trannies. But a very fun night out, or way to cap a night out. Doesn't actually even start to get going until about 1 am and closes between 8 am and noon the next day depending on how things are going.

The entire franchise was acquired by a Sao Paulo based private equity firm in 2012, and the managed to royally mismanage a cash cow. While the website does say it will reopen, there are active negotiations for another restaurant group to take over the Flamengo location, the mayor's office wants a ridiculous amount of rent, so I don't expect the situation to be resolved anytime soon.

The PE guys attempted to use the cash flow from the big churrascarias to fund a spin off entity called Porcao Gourmet, which offered a more US style steak house experience and no Rodizio. They opened locations in Barra and in the Jockey Club, but they failed miserably dragging down the entire chain. They're currently in the Brazilian version of chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, so don't hold your breath that they'll reopen any time soon.

Overall, Rio is still a good deal if you hit the right spots, especially with the current exchange rate. Unfortunately for some, it's not the point and click type of place like it was in the Help, MP and ho beach days. If you are still stuck on the way it was back in the days, you will have a hard time there. Do your research and have a plan. Back in the days, even if you came in blind, you could always run into cool guys you could hang with and check out the different spots. These days there isn't as many old vets going down (at least not in Copa), so you are on your own mostly. Anyways, nothing new in this report, that haven't been said before, just my 2 cents.
    Ee2002,

Thanks for posting your great reviews. Times change and new opportunities appear elsewhere. With or without Help discoteca Rio will always be unique but it still makes one sentimental for those old times!

Anyways, the Egytian guy is no longer hanging out in front of Delerio, but have moved over to the building where Eden is located. Bottom line is, don't let these guys take you to any spot. The business will charge you an extra $50 are, which is used to pay their commission, unlike the old taxi deal with the terma, which didn't come out of your bill. So beware of this scam. As far as the the other massgae spots in Copa, I wasn't too impressed last time I checked them out, so I didn't even bother this time.
I was heading to MC on my last day and the same man was loitering on the corner of Rua Hilrio de Gouvia (beach end). He followed me and pestured me all the way to the entrance.
of MC telling me to say to reception that it was my 1st time and he was bringing me along. Best to ignore him.

Your comments on the Brazilian economy and projections always are so insightful. They literally boggle my mind.

So you were in Rio but we never got any on the ground reports from you.

Are you saving them up for one long post?

Google Earth. Kmz or. Kml files with mongering locations?

Can anyone point me to any Google Earth layer files with points of interest indicated? I was going to make one myself, but thought I'd check with the masses first to see if one was already in existence.

I thought I remembered being pointed to one back in 2009, but I can't remember.

    Thanks!

Not good, since I'm going FOR the Olympics! I'm still excited though, because if all goes right, I'll be entering on a permanent resident (Retirement) Visa!

During this trip, I sampled almost each types of puta outlet available. Although I love the termas, the major termas are just getting too high in cost. Not that I can't afford it, but I don't like blowing money like that if there are cheaper alternatives. Plus I like to save money so that I can take more trips.

Anyways, the only terma I hit was 4 x4 (my favorite) and the prices were still the same as my last trip late last year -$320 are for the basic 40 minutes, either $340 are or $400 are for the 60 minutes (not sure which because the sign doesn't specify and I stick to 40 minutes mostly), also does not include the $50 are entrada if you don't get a girl before 6 pm for the promotion deal. 4 x4 wasn't as packed with guys as usual, but there were plenty of garotas. I ended up getting a couple out of there for 40 minutes each.

I hit an old reliable garota named Lara, who is a 25 year old cute brunette, with a fit body, boob job and wears braces. Been seeing her there for the last 3 years or so. She usually stays to herself, but is constantly going up. Those who are into backdoor, she is definitely down. She is definitely good to go if you are at 4 x4. Sorry she doesn't allow photos.

The other was an old 4 x4 vet Vanessa age 28 with long black hair. She was featured in Playboy and had her picture posted on the wall at 4 x4 for a while a few years back. Never did her in the past, but she gained quite a few pounds...
