I have had a few PMs asking about the protests and safety issues. Well, I was right in the midst of two big ones. The first big one estimated at 30, 000 protesters was on Thursday afternoon. 6-20-2013, marching along Rua Uruguaiana. Other groups came from all directions, all converging on Av. Presidente Vargas. The second one on Sunday afternoon. 6-23-2013, started somewhere on the northeast side on Copacabana marching southward along Av. Atlantica towards Forte de Copacabana. This one was estimated to have 8, 000 to 10, 000 protesters.

In both protests, I was able to roam around freely taking photos and videos with my camera. Some protesters would push their placards and posters into my camera's view. Some would give me a thumbs-up. All or the protesters (I stressed ALL) were nice, courteous and friendly. What amazed me was the mix of people: all ages, all ethnic groups, some in shorts and t-shirts, others in Sunday clothes, middle-age and elderly couples holding hands, young couples, etc. I did not see any hooligans or trouble makers. I felt very, very safe amidst them.

However, in both instances, I took off as soon as I saw the police in riot gear and the police helicopter approaching. They all came almost at the same time. I did not see any of the violence so I didn't know what caused it.

The government and the wealthy of Brazil cannot ignore it. This is definitely a People's movement. It reminds me of the People's movement in the Philippines in the 1980s which peacefully toppled the Marcos regime and the demonstrations in Germany which brought down the Berlin Wall in the 1990s.

I hope this helps. However, demonstrations are very unpredictable.

I was in the cinelandia Rio branco area last night while the streets were closed and tons of police officers present. All was peaceful and somewhat organized. It was interesting to see how the policia was very careful when dealing with suspicious characters. Many people video taping and taking pictures during the process. The police is being extremely careful compared to before, and not bullying people around and beating the crap out of them, and then asking questions. The power of technology and its effects.

If you have time, patience a little bit of game and don't crack the mirror everytime you are in front of it they place ad's posing as a sugar daddy or one of the sites for personal ad's. Met up with Funman13 around 11:am we got checked into our apartment and then took the subway to centro checked out a couple of the low cost termas, Went into terma 81 first 120R for the our 90R for 40 minutes and 80r for half plus there is a 10R cover charge to get in but you get two drinks. On Saturday 22 June I made the trip to Centaurus in the early evening. It will very likely be my last visit. The entrance fee was R$ 140, paid upfront (they did not try to insist I pay for a girl upfront). There was a half dozen mediocre girls waiting at the entrance to the men's locker room who followed me and my wingman into the locker room and began to be generally irritating. After changing into the robe I headed into the boite and my initial impressions of the talent was that it was inferior to what I had seen at 4x4 the day before. There was plenty of talent, however, the girls were generally physically less fit than the girls at 4x4 the day before. In addition, the girls at Centaurus on this day were extremely annoying (few customers) and kept pestering me even after I made it crystal clear I was not interested (making me wish I did not speak fluent portuguese). After a few hours of hanging out and rehydrating I went with a serious gym built hardbody who did not disappoint at all in the cabin and who would fit right in at 4x4. R$ 420 for the basic 40 minute session (the management do their best to hustle / trick you into agreeing to pay for a more expensive session). General conclusion: although there are some hot garotas available here (especially if you like skinny or chubby not particularly physically fit white girls) the pricing and hustling management practices are ridiculous and create at times an uncomfortable and irritating experience. Go to 4x4 instead.

Chris Long told me he was able to PM you. It will be great if you can join us tomorrow afternoon for some adventure in Centro. I took him there this afternoon and he didn't want to leave. However, a demonstration was assembling on Rua Uruguaiana with police and helicopter presence, and I was afraid the Metro will shut down. I also did not see too many taxis around. So we left the area around 8 PM. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
