The termas have all reopened after the New Years holiday. On Monday, the only one open was 4 X4. Usually Monday's suck there but there were actually a lot of girls working maybe 40 around 8 pm. Hey guys. Not my thing to solicit business, but I have an American friend living in Jaco that will get you a Covid test result from the US to Costa, and Brazil and from Brazil, Costa, and Mexico into the US. From Brazil it is a Pacheco Pharmacy test. I travel in and out of these countries weekly and haven't taken a Covid test in a year and no one has looked twice. I've had Covid and the vaccine and just had an antibody test score 2500+ so I am not wasting my time chasing these tests every time I come and go.

I don't know what happened with your experience but I have been to the same Pacheco (534 Nossa Senhora) like 5 times last year and it always worked the same. Walk to the back and the guy at the computer gives you a slip with the test you want. You take the slip to the front cashier and pay. Take the receipt to the back again and the guy puts you in the computer. You wait in line in front of the door on the right. The lady comes to get you, you sit down, then she swabs your nose. She tells you to go wait outside. After 10 minutes the guy calls you back to the desk to give you the printout and it is also emailed. 15 to 20 minute process depending on how many others are in front of you in the line in front of the door.

But it is only select Pachecos. All of them do not do tests. It appears they now have an oral test that is R89.90 instead of the nasal swab that I have been taking for R110.

I recently got a test in this one: "Drogarias Pacheco. Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. RJ, 22011-060, Brazil" (paste address into google maps).

I think this depends on the venues. Thailand may be more expensive if you compare Go Go bars to termas, and it depends on which club you compare to, how many drinks you buy. For the lowest cost choice, say $10 to $20 range, I personally think Brazil pretty much has an edge over all of them just by comparing service. This is exactly the same one I went to. About a week and a half out, I started doing a little recon on what Pacheco I needed to go to and what time etc. When I stopped at the first one, the lady pointed to the wall and said not here, but these locations are my three choices _See attached photo_. So I made my way onto 534 NS Copa which was the closest to my apt and I made an appointment. Turns out, I'm glad I did because when I arrived at my appointed time, there was a long line of Americans and Euros who were there for walk ins. Maybe it was the timing (tourist trying to leave after the New Year) or maybe it was coincidence. Another good thing about making an appointment is the guy who does the tests is not there everyday, and they'll let you know what days work / don't work so you can plan ahead.

For all mongers from the USA. Please do not worry about the 24 HR timeline. The USA does not use hours as a timeline. It uses days and it has from the start.

So, you can take a test more than 24 hrs in advance. For example, my flight usually leaves SP around 10 pm on Sunday which means I have to do my test ONE day before my flight which is Saturday and I can do it at any time on Saturday. I used to take the test on Thursday afternoon in So Paulo back when the requirement was THREE days and not 72 hours.

Similar experience for me, I left just before Christmas. I got sick in the middle of my stay and went to a Droga Raia in Ipanema for a rapid test, results were in Portuguese and emailed approx 5 hours later, cost was $28.73 on my credit card. For my return flight to the US, I paid for a mobile service to come to my hotel room the day before I flew out (the day before, more than 24 hours as the rule stipulates). The hotel arranged the service in my room, the results were in English and emailed within about 6 hours later, cost was $56.18 on my credit card. The email address which sent me the results: biomedcarelaboratorio@gmail.com . Convenience vs cost can always be debated and the test was only scrutinized once when I checked in with the airline, but this is not something I'd want to cut corners on. Mobile testing will continue to be a viable business in 2022 tourist areas, so costs should come down. The one downside is the service came an hour early and I was balls deep in a cutie, made for a comical 5 minutes in the room during the test. The 2 nurses weren't hot but very professional and low key.
