    Thanks for a great report.

Just to add that you may be denied entry at 4 x4 after 1 AM. Yes it is open. You can get out but may not be able to get in after 1 AM or even earlier.

I don't have an answer but you can buy two one way tickets and cancel the return flight once you landed. I don't think they checked return flight ticket but you never know. There is a possibility they will know your intention if you return flight is 180 days away because it is on the same trip so they will see it on their system.

    3 x pernoite 1500

I did a triple pernoite with a tier 1 terma girl for 1500. It was great. We went to Pesqueiro • RJ, 570 r for lunch of the seafood mixed grill including lobsters, then some beers on the beach. Swimming at Mediterraneo (Transamerica).

    Semi long term trip

I'm planning for a 180 days stay (the maximum allowed) in the near future in Brazil. After my initial 90 days, I plan to apply for the additional 90 days. I did the same on my previous trip where I initially bought a 90 days round trip ticket and thanks to the airline's covid policy, was able to change my return flight date without any fees. However, this year the airline is no longer offering that policy. So I'm thinking of purchasing a 180 round trip ticket. My question is, since I will only be given a 90 days stay visa on arrival in Brazil, will the airline and Brazilian customs allow me to enter with my return flight 180 days away? Or will they require me to have a return flight within the initial 90 days given to me?

Then my cheerful walk was interrupted out of the concrete benches by a five feet toothless grandpa who inquired about the exact time of the day. He got the answer by my GPS watch, and as I started to depart from his view, he rushed after me shrieking 'Shit! Shit!' he pointed to my left shoe, covered in a orange-brown mass. Then he kneeled, produced a box, a napkin, a plastic water bottle and started to clean my shoe. Then after the arduous job has been completed, he pleaded for a fee to supplement his nourishment. To his amusement, I kneeled too, grabbed the soaked napkin juiced by what looked like a rotten mango, and put it under his nose: 'Shit, isn't it? No meal for you this time, shit-grandpa'. This episode has sealed the fate of my worn-out running Reeboks. I've left them in Rio. However, I came back with much more, which brings me to the core of my post.

This post is actual for November 2021. USD is about 5. 5 BRL. It's the exchange rate and prices that matter now, as much costs less than in times of Help, given the favourable exchange rates. Metro is 5. 8 BRL per one cash ride. Large beer around 600 ML at the street bar is around 10 BRL. Hookers start at about 2 BRL per minute. All day chair and a tent at the beach is 20 BRL. 1% of the population makes less than 500 BRL a month, many unskilled workers work for 30 BRL per day, average worker makes about 2,200 BRL per month, and 1% of the population makes over 15,000 BRL per month, which in turn most likely brings every traveller to Brazil on this forum into the top group.
Very good input, let say keep thing s simple a centro prive girl and chillin on the beach to avoid European winter what else you need, there are other tons of free thing you can enjoy like every where in the world fitness, endless beach walking, sunsets they are all for free, can't wait to come any way everyone has his own way on fellas.

Don't you get better exchange rates by withdrawal money in ATM? Specially with a card like revolut?

Normally the "shit" swinging is done by kids, with shoe-cleaners standing conveniently nearby. And yes, you won't see them coming. They once got me twice on the same trip. Not real shit though.

There is a small chance that governor Castro can make Eduardo paes change his mind. It wouldn't surprise me if carnival is cancelled.

I also feel sorry for all the tourist going to celebrate New Year in Rio. 80% of the hotels are fully booked. I got invited to a big private New Years party in Vidigal today so I'll have fun anyway.

    Proof of Vaccination

My impression is that Rio started these new restrictions because they weren't allowed to demand vaccination proofs from foreign tourist flying to Rio. Right now the covid situation in Brazil looks good, less new cases (but I guess they will most likely enter a new wave in February / March) and many vaccinated. The last thing they want now is a wave of omicron spread by foreign tourists. Rio doesn't want to risk the good health of cariocas because of unvaccinated gringos. These new restrictions are made so the unvaccinated gringos might cancel their trips. The cariocas in general seems to be fine with the restrictions, but if too many businesses looses many maybe they will remove some of the restrictions? Nothing is ever certain in Brazil. My guess many bars and restaurants will go easy on the new restrictions.

I'm vaccinated and I have no problems with the new restrictions. In less than a week I'll be in Brazil. For unvaccinated tourists it might be a pain in the ass. Can't stay in hotels or visit bars, restaurants or clubs. They'll be better off having their holiday outside Rio.

I'm looking forward to pass another New Year in Rio, but I'm starting to believe the celebration will be cancelled. I'll have fun any way, but it's a pity paying expensive money for an apartment during a New Year that might be cancelled.

I have been vaccinated too, and I assume my CDC Proof of Vaccination Card will be sufficient. I will carry a copy along with a copy of my passport (As I usually do) while moving around the city. If I am not mistaken, Brazil is still asking for the PCR test 72 hours prior to the flight, however, to re enter the USA, I think now the new rule requires Proof of Negative result 24 hours or one calendar day before return flight.

I am very fortunate in that I will be staying at a Brazilian friend place during the next few weeks, but I do feel for those those tourists that paid those high prices for apartment during this time of year, and be limited to certain options. Hopefully, same time this week, I will be in Rio, writing an update on my trip experience entering RDJ, Brazil. Postive vibes!!
