I have been living in Rio for almost a month now, and although I have seen alot. There is still alot I have not seen. First and foremost, take taxis everywhere after dark even if it's only a few blocks. Getting robbed here is like a Rite of Passage. I have witnessed two robberies so far, one with a pistol. The beaches are not safe to walk on after dark, especially near Princess Isabel. I was surrounded once by five putas who attempted to pick pocket me, not far from Mabs.

My personal favorite spots are the Termas. You put on your Hugh Hefner robe, and the women make you feel like Brad Pitt. 4 x4 and Centaurus are the two best, and I have been to just about all of them many times now. The massage parlors are much cheaper, but its more of a hit and run scene instead of having a drink, and chatting / groping a bit before the final act. I ran into one girl I met at Terma 65 at a massage parlor in Copa. In other words, the girls change venues often, and one place may suck today, and be the best next week.

I have found the online escorts to be fun. Alot of them are sweet, non pro type. The websites are in Portuguese of course.

I have been to many of the Night Clubs also. Barberella is by far the best, hands down. The woman are all 8 to 10's, but they are asking for 600 real for one hour. Some are negotiable, the hottest ones arent. They want 1000 real for toda noche. Trust me, skip Casablanca, dolce dita, and the others. For now at least.

Mabs is not my style either. Its fun to shoot the shit with other mongers and watch NFL or UFC, but the girls are severely lacking for me. There are beach touts on Copa who will find you girls, but you must be patient while he looks around for you. Hopefully after the Olympics, someone will open a replacement for Help. Also, Luomo is CLOSED.

Enjoyed your post, wow it brings back many memories of my 2 visits to Rio in 1999 and 2000. Those were different days with HELP in it's hey days of FUN! Wow the memories. I know each and every of the termas you mention and been there many times.

I still think, as I did back in 2000 when trying to describe to my buddy back in the states, what a Rio termas was like and I could only describe that if you would open up the top of a mans brain, look down inside to see how it ticks and make the man crave for something, you could then design a termas.

I stand corrected about 65. After I posted a friend of mine just happened to send me flyer trying to get me to go to 65. According to the flyer there is a Christmas special, where they waive the entrada if you take a girl. Doesn't specify any dates, but it's probably good til the holidays are over. The funny thing is I say the flyer throughout the terms, but thought it was some Christmas theme day and didn't bother to read it. So, at least for now 65 is a better deal, at least price wise. Thanks for the correction.

They are shooting themselves in the foot for not being explicit on the pricing table you basically have to infer it is waived. Almost like they do not want people (at least non-Portuguese speakers) to be aware of the promotion.

Fair point. Although if you didn't take a girl how can you expect the 90 entrada to be waived? I was there Monday and last Thursday and on both occasions did not pay the fee.

Have really enjoyed reading all your reports on your experiences there as well.

Seems like you already have experience pretty much the best Rio has to offer. Some of my best experiences have come from venturing off the beaten path.

Might I suggest you ask a taxi to take you to:

Vidigal, Vila Cruzeiro or Complexo de Alemo.

Once there, just say to any of the friendly locals: Eu estou aqui para foder suas mulheres.

I am sure you will have more than you handle in no time. And, cheap. They love gringos in those areas.

Just as you did in So Paulo, be sure to tell us how it goes.

I hope you recognize the sarcasm and don't actually take his advice. It will not end well for you if you do.

Termas 4 x4 seems perfect for you and you also might want to try termas 65. Please don't forget to post your report. Most of us already know these termas but a newbie POV is always useful for other newbies.

Planning to go to 4 x 4 tomorrow. Centaurus and Solarium are out of my budget. Tried MABS and Barbarella and Casa Blanca, but prices were sky high and seemed like more of a hustle job than great service. Looked at the independents online, but everyone is quoting +$400 R, and they won't negotiate.

I agree about not tipping, but I do make an exception for the lady in the dressing room at 4 x4, MC, and back in the day, Luomos.

One one than more occasion I took my bag with me to a terma. I was flying out later and went to the terma around 4 or 5 pm. At the end of my fun, I tipped the locker room lady for watching my bag. That's it. No need to tip anyone else. No one else did anything worthy of a tip (expect my girl in the room. But she got a different tip).

Absolutely right. Never let the touts bring you to the puteiros. Of course they don't do it because they wants to be nice and are concerned about you getting laid. They get a commission. In the case of Ee2002 it seems like puteiro charged R$50 extra (according tp Gpguia the current price is R$200).
Btw, there are also a bunch of touts on Av Treze de Maio, outside of no 33. Just ignore them.

Regarding tipping. In Brazil I rarely tip, and never in a puteiro. That will spoil the staff, and IMO is the same as overpaying for a service. The locals don't tip so there should be no reason for a gringo to tip. However tipping habits might be very different depending on where you come from.

How do these propositions work in Rio?

In Accra, Ghana there would often be guys at the beaches that would come up to us (myself and some buddies) and ask if we were looking for some ladies to enjoy the night with. The ladies tended to be non-hardened pros. The guys would walk around the beach and talk to some ladies and come back to us. We'd give the guys a commission for their service and then barter with the ladies.

I ask this because I feel the locals on ground will know the in and outs of the mongering scene. We mongers know of the well to do establishments that cater to a certain clientele. I like to experience all sides of the spectrum.

Also, how are the girls scouted on the beach in comparison. I'd imagine they'd be the same quality.

As per getting robbed in Rio, I think its only a rite of passage if you make it one. It's all about common sense.
