I'm not surprised. I've visited close to 90 brazilian cities/village. All of them, without exception, had puteiros. Even the smallest villages had a cabar.
I can't imagine how many puteiros there are in Rio. Funny though, the least possible places IMO where to find puteiros in Rio are in the favelas.

I always thought the guys in the favela didn't have a problem scoring some bunda for free.

My girl lives in Mato Grosso where her tri-city area has 12000 people. Using a rough estimate of 20% we can assume that there are 2,400 men in this area. She said there are 32 brothels that serve the area. After knowing this, I can't imagine how many cat houses a city as big as Rio must really have.

It was good to see that there have opened more prives on RB156, RB185, Av Pres Vargas and Av Treze de Maio 33 and 47. Propably some of these "new" ones are old ones that have moved. Still it's a good sign.

Of all the termas, it seems 4x4 is the only one that operates on logic, or at least as close to it as a Brazilian business can get. Haha. They now offer a loyalty card for R$200, which gives you 10 free entrances.

Always nice when someone reports first hand information especially when it will save us money.

The Loyalty Card I don't really see any value, Why Pay $R200 Reals when I can have my entrance fee waived if I take a girl before 6 pm. Maybe if you live in Brazil or your in Brazil for a very long time it may be worth it, But if your like the average monger that is in Brazil for maybe 1 or 2 weeks, I don't see any real value. Even if I go to the 4 x 4 everyday for 1 week, (Which I would not go to the 4 x 4 everyday for my vacation) even if I paid the entrance fee, It will only come up to $R100 ($R20 per day) for a card that is only good for up to 1 Year. I would take the $R200 I'm spending and add it towards a sessions with a 4 x 4 girl.

There's definite value with the card, especially if you enter with buddies as the original poster did, and more so if you don't like to rush in and grab a program quickly.

Not for everyone, but has value for some.

We did this with a small group of 3 people and everyone got their entrance waived. The net effect is you are getting a R$30 (R$50 entry - R$20 average cost per entrance from buying the card) discount every time you use the card since the cost to buy the card was R$20 per entrance. This comes in handy when going with a group of people where you don't want to be in a hurry and have to session before 6 pm. It's nice to hang out until 10 pm and be more selective knowing that you will still get some kind of discount on your session.

This card has been offered since October but it expires on December 30th of this year. I'm not sure if they will offer a similar card next year.

I go to Brazil every year, and you hardly see any mongers, when I go to the Termas its mostly Brazilian customers (cops, business men, politicians) with maybe sprinkled in 2-3 Americans

In the 2000's, I would only see a sprinkling of 2 or 3 Americans in the termas in Centro if any. Our crew was welcomed as a very desired novelty by the Centro termas. If you walk in with five or six gringos who are going to session once or twice in an evening who's not going to welcome you.

Most gringos we would meet would camp out in Copacabana and Ipanema and stay totally in this small area. I met guys who would get an apartment near Help and spend their entire trip in a small area. As someone who has been there a number of times, it is important to note that this is in a favela. Yes, it has been pacified which mean there are cops patrolling, but do be aware before you plan a visit. In July, a helicopter with tourists was forced to land after being shot. Also in July one of those cops was ambushed and killed. The view is incredible and the restaurant / bar Safado69 mentioned has a van that will pick you up.

Some personal suggestions I recommend trying. You just have to be open minded and get out of Copa it's relatively dead compared to the Rio of old that so many are stuck on. Like in the series the walking dead "your world just got a lot bigger".

Outside of the regular venues the places where I have had recent luck or will try out next trip are chock full of normal girls and GDPs. Portuguese obviously helps and also having a network of "cool" termas girls. I only went to each of these locations once in a little over a week but what I observed is promising.

Barra the Tijuca.

Pesqueiro kiosk. Nice seafood / bar lounge atmosphere by beach, I went with a couple termas girlfriends and there were model types there and more than 3 or 4. Probably high end escorts.

Boate All In. The happening spot / music maybe too loud for some myself included (at 45) but some nice sights and gdps are there.

Av Olegario Marcial. Lots of bars amazing vibe, very chill and relax.

Posto 3 - where many gdps sun bathe very subtle.

Bla Bla Champanheira. Grown and super sexy.
