I have a one week trip planned for Rio at the end of April. Planning to say in Copa and I've been scrolling through the past 30-40 pages and have probably only seen one mention of Barra the Tijuca. Is there anything out there worth spending a day on? Only mention I saw was of a place called "Asha."

In my opinion no, only if you are scared of your own shadow.

I fly in a couple of weeks and I haven't seen anything official as of yet. It would be nice because up till now all you had to do was just say you were uninsured and the tests were free back in the ole USA, I guess the funding ran out so I guess it will be an insurance copay or something, but it's no sweat if all Brasil requires is proof of vax. Tips have the deliberate legal ambiguity: to whom do they beneficially belong, or what was intended by the giver ? To the individual server, a pool of servers, maybe kitchen staff, or even the employed owners ? Or as a risk transfer paid by end consumers ? Similar to wages theft and non-transparent pricing to snare the unwary.

I doubt any of the BR Uber drivers will be going to court to recover this gouging that they probably have diluted or never receive at all. Not surprised to hear about the decision, lawyers and the judiciary are ultimately footmen and butlers (who mistakenly think they are players) to the real power holders.

In the US the other day the appeals court upheld the decision of the workers versus Salt Bae. The service charge paid to a restaurant is not the same as a tip and goes to the restaurant, not the servers.

You didn't have any problem with the Uber driver going up in Vidigal? In January we went to a churrasco party in Vidigal. When ordering the Uber it showed the correct address in Vidigal (quite deep into the comunidade). However, the driver refused to go up into Vidigal and let us off at Praa do Vidigal. He said normal Ubers were not allowed to enter Vidigal. As I refuse to go with moto-taxi we ended up walking in heavy rain to our destination. When leaving the party they told us we had to call one of Vidigals own Uber drivers, but it turned out none was available because of the rain. We had to walk down to Av Niemeyer and get a normal Uber.

They can only enter to a point and then we had to take a moto to Bar Laje. Same process coming down, moto, then Uber.

Another typical American rip-off: prolly Uber takes a card / transaction percent of the tip as well as the fare component (naturally 100% opaque), or *ALL* of the tip, because you **assume** it tips the actual driver, not the platform, and the drivers are powerless. Sad to say, but this actually understates the situation. One side of this unsymmetrical situation will have to give. Let's hope it is in the direction of the US moving towards Brasil and not the opposite.

$US200 is about the minimum for anyone remotely presentable, and even then with a plethora of conditions and attitude.

Another typical American rip-off: prolly Uber takes a card / transaction percent of the tip as well as the fare component (naturally 100% opaque), or *ALL* of the tip, because you **assume** it tips the actual driver, not the platform, and the drivers are powerless. More silicon valley swindling at its "finest". Same with restaurants, currency exchange (ALWAYS decline US offering because it is a shit rate), and make sure you use Schwab or Capital One (or interactive brokers / IBC.com) cards to avoid rip-off 3% transaction fees (and ATM fees) and shittier FOREX rates. Better still, get a BR bank account and wire in via OANDA and don't feed the fat, government sponsored (corporate welfare) lazy US banks. Every dollar saved from those useless corporate welfare panhandlers can be used to invest or spend on pretty women who bring pleasure to us. Very interesting how they have different rates for US card prefixes, apparently a lot of the dating sites (like CUPID) have similar multi-pricing scams, as in 80% if you use a BR address. I've also used VPNs and found huge price deltas in airlines and especially hotels.

In RIO I give the smiling girls cash, even after being pounded up their tight butts for 20+ minutes (and I'm cursed with girth and length, and yes some Thai chicks have said no, and some put a pad in their cervix, and good BJ / DT can be an issue, so be careful what you wish for). Fortunately, most BR ladies happily accommodate and several have no gag reflex and swallow straight down. Always happy to tip extra in cash and set the example to assist fellow brothers. My god! I miss Rio. The P4 P scene in LOS Angeles is like the Cantina in Star Wars: fat, tatooed, entitled ugly ho's, upsell and cat and mouse. $US200 is about the minimum for anyone remotely presentable, and even then with a plethora of conditions and attitude. Sex prison, ugly architecture, lack of green and neurotic people. They now have LASIK clinics for dogs (with homeless people camped out back) and structural inequality that I think is getting near the tipping point. Fucked up society!! I am getting out of that costly shit hole and the USA.

Rio: green, friendly, no hassle and tons of choices with BBCIM, anal, DFK etc for as little as $US8 and a solid performance for an hour for a bit more than $US 20. With THB=USD 33.56 as at today, THB 1000=$US29.79, LOS is a bad deal. The Real is now 4. 66 (did tell ya it was undervalued), luckily I was buying up Petrobas and similar at US1=BR5. 5 last year and nice dividends, basically 15% currency gain in 9 months plus divs, plus appreciation with oil, so IRR pushing 35%. Getting a local trading account is a serious hassle, but worth it. BR offers excellent variety value in ladies and investment, you should thank your lucky stars to be there. If you are bit more adventurous, you can score a really nice, renovated tree house in the mountains / hills near RIO for under $250 k, wake up to birds, good organic food and get a live in cook, maid and / or driver for next to nothing, under $US1,200 a month. On that note, start ditching USD lads. Party is over, lights are on, people are leaving and chairs on tables..

I thought I had it bad here in Chicago! I hope Rio is the answer!
