During my flight I asked some Brazilians. All of them recommended Vivo and said stay away from Tim. So I limited my search for Vivo SIM.

Yep. Everyone I spoke with in Rio recommended Vivo over TIM. But last time in Rio Sul, they said they'd stopped selling them to foreigners (BS apparently) and sent me to the TIM store. I don't understand why such a simple has to be so complicated.

And BTW, I did have a CPF obtained here in the States, never worked.

On pricing generally. Genuine crocs cost 200 r in The decathalon in narra. And 70 r for fake crocs at a shoe store off of alfandega near uruguiana.

Dears, thank you for sharing your stories and giving your advises along the way.

I am 100% sure that she is not telling stories and that she got pregnant from me.

During the last days, she was able to find those pills online (in a shop from Sao Paulo, apparently), she took those and ended up in the hospital with little menstruation flow. She admitted to the doctors she took the pills so they enforced it out (sorry for my poor English on this subject), until she got it a lot of flow. She is now recovering but still bleeding after some days, she will need a follow up visit and that is it.

So, total damage was quite reasonable (some 250 USD altogether), and got rid of a huge potential problem, and treated the girl in a fair way.

I will be in Rio in just 10 days from now and she said she wants to meet me but prefer not to have sex this time, which I kind of understand.

Years ago (circa 2005) on an extend to Brazilian trip of 6 months, I ended up befriending several women from various northern Brazilian cites, during my sojourn. Some suggestions / questions:

1) Can she make up a story that she was raped by some stranger late at night somewhere and did not tell anyone about it because she felt ashamed and it would not have done any good since she couldn't identify the rapist;.

2) You do a search for the drug where you are, which hopefully will be the legitimate drug, buy it, and express mail it to her;.

3) If the above fail, get her a tourist visa to visit you and have her get an abortion there (assuming it is legal there).

I tend to buy not the absolute newest pixel (eg, Pixel 6), but one or two behind, (eg pixel 4 or 5).

If you watch that video, the point about being able to still get your text messages via Google chat for security on your financial accounts is a key one.

That means if you are robbed, just give away the phone (yes, $500 buck hurts), but you can still protect your financial accounts when you report the loss. Good feature.

I bought one based on this info, great suggestion. I think the phone cover is a waste of money.

Further to this (and I see several ISG members are discussing Google Fi).

1. Pixel phones. You can have up to 4 users on a pixel, and with whatsapp and whatsapp business you can thus have 8 profiles per phone. Sometimes this is helpful as you may want to communicate with a hoar over a new phone # and / or a # not tied to your professional profile. Just saying. Also, while I am on the subject, generally keep your face off your profile pics, just like the local hoars, who do that for a reason. Back of the head with the sun in the camera, looking at sugarloaf, etc, may be a good look for a profile pic.

Buying used pixel phones for a reasonable price and maintaining them (otterbox cases, screen protectors, etc) is a good thing to do, as these are very useful devices.

Girls always say the Pixel 4 a has better camera than iphone, which is a pretty high praise from a pretty knowledgeable user base.

ESim can be activated from outside the USA, apparently (see video below).

Best Data and Tech for Brazil.

OK, a few techie notes:

1. You can get almost all tech you need in Rio. I always recommend Rosanne at Sorella informatica, piso 1, at Rio Branco 156, a honest vendor (I bought a gamer laptop for 10,000 reais, and it didn't work, and I took it back, and she gave me CASH, despite her losing 10%, as I had put it on a card. When the F does that ever happen in Brazil?

- You can get all the data you need by going to Central station, going to the vendors near the metro and supervia entrances, and pay 16 reais for a vivo card. Vivo has better data than the others, TIM, Claro, etc. You can then top up your chip at pharmacias, or of course at vivo stores. No CPF, no hassle, just $3. 1 USD, cash in Reais. In case you hadn't figured it out, Rio is built for Vagabundo's, people who don't want to be tracked for whatever reason, mobsters from Siciliy named vinnie who go become Mr Catra's in Zona Norte, etc.

- you can ask your landlord for high speed data (I pay 200 reais more a month for 5 g WiFi in my Barra Transamerica love shack, that's what, 40 USD).

2. There are some tech items that are harder or hard to get in Brazil, and which are the things you want to bring with, or ask your frequent traveler buddies to bring for you:

- pixel phones with an activated Google Fi plan. Fi is the best in my experience. And lots, and lots, and a friggin shitton of data cards to stick in burner phones and devices.

- kindle. For some reason, hard to get in Brazil.

- top tier laptops, like, for example, a Razer Blade14 (asking for advice, is this a good gamer rig? V is in the market for a gamer laptop, but doesn't necessarily want a 9 pound monster brick, but this one seems good), which of course would be super inflated by brazilian taxes if you could get it in Brazil.

- Leatherman skeletool, or SOG knives. OK, not to drift into the military too much, but the skeletool is a super multitool and ounce for ounce the best single knife multitool to carry, as it has pliers to fix your car, a serrated blade that it lethal, a carabiner to attach to your pack while you are climbing sugarloaf or halfdome and a screw driver with a phillips and regular bit. The SOG fixed blade that is best is the SEAL Strike because of the excellent carry in the inside of belt sheath, and the SOG Trident especially the new one in D2 steel. But, if you had to carry just one in a 40 pound checked. Bag, it would be the skeletool, which even the chicks want because of the bottle opener. For those of you who appreciate a sharp knife, the best sharpener in centro is on a side street in Lapa a little further up Rua Rezende, same street as Ganja Coffeeshop, on a side street going onto Rua Riachuelo. Finally, the best place to carry said skeletool is in the zippered pockets of the trail running shorts sold at Decathlon, which are really useful, as there are two zippered pockets, and three little mesh pockets, perfect for condoms, lube, surf wallet, bluetooth earbuds, and even that stun gun flashlight fits well into the little compression pocket of the shorts.

Those shorts also make great underwear under a long pant, and a great sleeping short (and with some hoars, it is a good idea to keep a few knives in the zippered pockets of your shorts because like Gus in Lonesome Dove says, a hoar can always slit your carotid artery while you sleep. Not that having said knives would help you much, but its the thought).

Yeah, I could do that. In fact, I have done alot of that. Just pick a day, and we can organize it. I would suggest for VM:

1. Go from Cinelandia Metro to Metro Sao Cristavao.

A) Can go to Massagemtijuca. This is a tier 1 prive, and has the best talent. Trust me. Jessica! OMFG. As good a morena as in any tier 1 terma. For 33% of the cost.

B) VM.

C) Mosaico! There is actually a Elisa Sanches suite. The best girls in Rio are at Mosaico. Historically, this is true.

D) Hotel Canario.

E) Hotel Malaga. A landmark, culturally, in that it is where the old Scortshow girls would go. Next to excellent restaurants, Aconchega Carioca.
