So just to class things up in here:

If any of you can wear slightly upscale clothes. Even jeans and a polo shirt. And have the time to kill, allow me to sing the praises of Esch Cafe's outpost in Centro. It's conveniently located on the same street as T65 (Rua Rosario, I think) , about half a block towards 65 from Rio Branco. It's all old dark wood, exposed brick, and Rio elite doing business. It's a cigar cafe, and they have a nice if pricey humidor (think Cubans in the R$40-R$55 range and up). Great mixed drinks. Really good filet mignon steak sandwich with quejo and salada. Except it's pricey (R$40). Still if you are in the neighborhood (4x4 is 1 block away. 502 is 1 block away. 65 is 1 block away) , and you want to indulge a bit on a trip, give it a whirl. I spent 3. 5 hours there on Friday night and didn't even make it to 65! LOL, that said 65 would have been cheaper!

FYI they close early every weeknight (by 7pm-8pm) except Friday. Not open weekends.

By the way, GREAT espresso too.

Going to Rio for the first time January 15th.

I've been searching and lloking for these things but couldn't find much.

- Is there any massage parlours that you can recommend or how would I find them? (whats the price range?)

- Is there any privates around town or are thermas the only option (whats the price range for these?)

Buses generally 24hrs most routes, but become infrequent after midnight.

Was in Centro in the evening. Wanted to go to T502 but was lugging around quite some gear and decided they would be relatively safer in a 4x4 locker and it was only 4. 30 PM so I thought I might finally get to use the 5 PM entrada promotion (didn't). There was a group of young American brothers from LA and boy, did they look happy! Went up to the rest area and tried to rest after walking all day long and then opened my eyes to find a huge naked local who was only slightly less hairy than a bear.

Came back down to the boite to be tapped by various boltons, some of them are quite hard. Looked around for Estefany #2, found Estefany #1 by the third beer. Good!

While chatting with her before going to the room, got the news that two of my favorites have left, one back home to Santa Catarina and the other is out of the game. Unlike yesterday, it wasn't too busy and even though we were in the room for more than an hour by my watch, there was no knock or call. The session was good enough to make me want to go home and sleep. I don't find this kind of sex back home and this justifies the time and money for coming to Rio for me. As Bubba Boy says, it takes just one girl to turn the evening into a spectacular one. Went back into the boite to get some water and quench my thirst and the show inside was on, with the usual milling around. Have to try one of the bolt-on beauties sometime, I keep alternating between a liking for girl-next-door types and the slutty ones.

Other stuff :

I walked at a leisurely pace to Cinelandia, saw a group of protesters against political corruption in the square. There was a guy on a truck parked nearby speaking rather passionately but no was giving a fuck. The group was trying to burn an effigy and I went closer to take some pictures. There were about 2-3 serious folks and the rest were kids having a bit of a laugh, just trying to throw stuff into the fire. Some just threw a notice or two and then buggered off. I think they need more practice at burning stuff.

Today morning I was out for a jog and near Sofitel a well-dressed old man got out from a minivan and crossed the road ahead of me. Just then a Polo / Golf screeched around the corner and while passing him rolled down the windows and the kids inside screamed at him. Could have been influenced by the Heavy Metal playing. The old man just gave a 'kids-these-days' kind of look, smiled and carried on. Early morning WTF.

On the walk back from Leme (my route goes from the Fort to the Leme end and then walk back) passed Balcony and a couple of GDPs walked towards me and another local looking at the sea. One of them shaked her rather big boltons at us and got a slight raise from me and a perplexed look from the bystander. Wished I had locked up everything in my room. I will check out the Leme zoo tonight and if it sucks, then may be Florida.

Nobody said that Florida Bar is dodgy. I think Cartman meant that the Praça Mauá area is scary at night.

IMO Praça Mauá and most of the centro is very deserted at night, but not particulary unsafe.

Going to Mosaico is the same as going to Vila Mimosa.

landed in 4x4 just after the 5pm deadline. as expected very busy thursday evening with 2:1 or more guys to girls in the boate. waited for around 3 beers for the girls on my list but none were to be seen and then picked agatha, a mulata with a face very slightly better than sarah jessica parker but a very nice body with natural tits and bubble butt as i didn't want to chance t502. this was the first time in about 8 visits that i didn't have to buy the girl a drink (because an elderly gentleman doing some tyre-kicking had done that for me). she seemed a bit distracted but i was back in bundaland after a 3-month abstinence and when she said she was a completa, decided to make the the girl friend of the evening. once i said vamos, she went to hug and kiss her friends, dunno why they do it.

OK, maybe I am the last defender of L'uomo. But I like this place. Yes, on my (really all-too-infrequent) visits to Rio I like to hit the casas and the downtown termas. Even VM, on occasion, but more for laughs. But when Sunday rolls around the list of options becomes VERY limited. Then L'uomo is about the only choice for me.

Raising the prices for the session is not even the dumbest thing they do. Raising the prices for the drinks is much worse for their bottom line. Because now most guys just do not want to stay the whole evening and party and drink with the girls. So then the terma becomes just like a casa, where you inspect the lineup, make your choice, session, and leave. The girls get bored, because there are very few men, if any, in the boite at any time. And nobody wants to pay for their drinks. And off course they all just want to sit around, which makes it much less attractive for men to visit this place. Which in turn leads to lower consumption, which the management notices, which they make up for (or try to!) by raising the prices. Death spiral! I never went to biz-school, but I know stupid when I see it.

After reading the previous paragraph you may wonder why I am still at L'uomo fan. Maybe it's all those great memories from days past. Maybe it's the girls speaking a decent English and allowing me to have a good chat and laugh with them, maybe I don't really care that much about money, and maybe because the options really are very limited on Sundays.

You are 100% correct. In Brazil they do the exact opposite to what any normal person would think is logical and intelligent.

More bad news, sportsfans! The reports of L'Uomo's price raise are true. Your intrepid man on the street Cartman headed over there tonight to get the skinny:

- 90R entrada (reduced 50% to 45R if you session)

- 310 all-in room / girl cost for 40 mins.

- 440 all-in room / girl cost for 60 mins.

Holy crap are you shitting me? That's 485R for 1 hour including entrada? They are taking the [CodeWord140]. As Ricky Gervais used to say on Extras,"Are you 'aving a laff?"

What makes this all worse is that the talent is basically the same as it has been the past 6+ months. Tonight there were maybe 12-18 girls, and at least 30% have been there for oover a year, and another 30-40% since 6+ months. Both MC and 65 have had some more turn over lately and newer chicks. Not L'Uomo.

What's even worse is that when I asked the receptionist why they raised prices, her answers included: "The girls were leaving for other casas." Seriously? Let them leave, you need the turn-over!

Her other answers were:

1) All the other T's are doing it.

2) We're now the same price as Solarium. Centaurus is more expensive.

3) Monte Carlo's entrada was R80 for a long time and now their prices have gone up (note for the record I think MC, with discounted entrance, is still only R375 or so for the hour)

When I pointed out that T65 has raised prices by R15 to R400 all-in for the hour, she said "Well, that's Centro. This is Zona Sul."

Talking to the girls didn't yield much hope, either. One said she thought she was making slightly more under the new prices. I asked about supply / demand, and she just didn't get it. I suppose you could try to argue that as summer here approaches, there are more customers and thus the quantity demanded even at higher prices is increasing. But that's a stretch. There's no shortage of casas or girls. My econ is a bit rusty but clearly there should be less quantity demanded at a higher price assuming normal elasticity (or something like that. Perhaps Chrisdrug can help me out).

You know, I could fucking handle it if the talent was up to par for that kind of price. But I literally had another R90 shower tonight and left, after waiting for 90 mins to see who turned up, without doing anyone. Because honestly the chicks were common and not worth it. At least at MC they are more animated and fucking safadinhas in the sack. And there was better talent at 65 the other night, and I'll concede 4x4.

Finally to make it worse, I'm talking to one chick I've known for a year and I ask her for her opinion of the whole situation (described in posts below) with the chick who was complaining (after the fact) that I only paid her R$200 plus a mini-massager / pocket rocket. After giving me her advice, which was to text the chick and apologize and ask her how much she wanted to return (lame!) , she said "What are you going to pay me for my advice?" Clear signs it is fucking slow. I ended up shelling out R15 for a drink for her, which she accepted as fair trade for her input. Meh.

So here I am. 75mg of wasted Viagra latter (the Cartman likes to pill up in advance, being an optimist) , writing up my sordid tale for you my intrepid readers. Take from this what you may!

Honestly, L'Uomo is like that guy you really keep trying to like, but he's so damn annoying, you just can't get there. I used to love the place. I have fond memories from 3-4-5 years ago, including a standing doggy anal from Ingrid, that I will keep forever! But if I read someone else telling me about how awesome the talent is there now, I will lose it! This is just offensive (and why Centaurus is on my shit list).

Do I make enough money not to care? Sure. But it's the principal of the thing. I put up with MC's pricing (and 65's) because I like the boates and I have seen some super hot, nasty chicks there. I accept 4x4 for what it is given the sheer quantity of bunda for lower-market rates. Even 502 and some other joints at R$2220 now. But when I have smoking hot chicks who I like coming to visit my place for R$200 a throw without complaint (excepting the aforesaid girl who was the first to complain in a year) , I can't justify this kind of nonsense at L'Uomo, Solarium, and Centaurus. I'm sure Bubba and Sperto will now jump in with comments about the privates and how that's the real value and they can't stomach pricing at any T. And they're largely correct and I would agree if I had the time to hit privates (I just can't get to privates during the day due to work) , albeit the T's have a better atmosphere IMHO for hanging out and talking to the chicks.

I kind of feel your pain, it sounds like you are in a lot of pain man or just [CodeWord140] off of the state of things in Rio right now, but I think when other guys come to Rio for the 1st time or you have others that goes to Rio every 7-10 months to them they feel places like L'uomo or Monte Carlo have some hot looking girls working in them to them because they can only compare them to what they seen back in the states walking around the mall. So they will go nuts when they walk in a Terma but to you it's no bad deal because you go in them 3-4 times a week or after you get off from work so this is when living in Rio can be a bad thing. A person can get really jaded and have a higher standard when it comes to what they think a hot looking chick should look like.

I remember when I 1st moved to Hawaii I lost my mind for the 1st 2-3 years I couldn't walk into Mall without running up talking to chicks each one look better than the last one I mean I never seen so many hot looking chicks in my life, but I was wondering why these other guys was just walking around acting normal, later I realize they were use to seeing hot looking girls everyday of their life so to them they look avg. Or some of these guys never left the Island so to them these chicks wasn't a big deal at all.

What I am saying Eric is maybe you need a break from the hobby for a few months and do something different because as of right now you seem kind of burnt out from all of this even a little [CodeWord140] off. Going to these Termas 3-4 times a week have got old to you and it should be fun. Just take a break do what some of the other guys have told you to do that also live in Rio go to some place different at least have some of those Termas girls get a chance to wonder were you have gone? But right now they can set their watch to what time you will be there after work.

You are right trying to explain supply and demand to one of these chicks is a waste of time as long as they have a phone card, a iphone some trick got for them a new pocketbook and a new tight outfit to wear to some club or a concert and a new hip hop CD, and their rent is paid up for another month they could careless about what is going to happen next week.

I was going to Rio 3-4 times a year back in the 70's. 80's 90's I was a fat kid in a candy store LOL than in the early 2000-2001, 2002, etc. I slowed down some and was going 1-2 times a year later on around 2004-7, I slowed down and went once a year and than I started going to other places like Costa Rica, Thailand, DR, Panama, Germany etc. Because I have got so burned out from Rio going to Rio, I started back going in 2008 etc. I took a break a few years because I was like you seeing the same girls inside of Club Help, Mia P. The Termas etc. The prices started going up and up and up. I knew I needed a break.

I am now looking forward going back to Rio early next year and now I have made lots of friends on Facebook and I have girls line up to see. Rio can be a tricky place if you hang around any one place for to long you can get Jaded from seeing the same old faces. Just take a break for a few weeks Eric like anything it can get old I remember when I use to go to stripclubs when I was young back when I was 16 years old but keep in mind I was 6'3. I was going every chance I got. I would see the same chicks and I would see them after work of course paying them around $50- $70. The going rate. But, thanks for being honest Eric the part about taking and wasting 75% of a Viagra pill had me rolling on the floor laughing LOL but I have been there too before once I ended up picking a so so looking chick just so I wouldn't waste a Viagra pill LOL. I think we all been there before at one point but now I am at the point were I rather waste a Viagra pill than waste spending money on a chick I really wasn't into.
