OK, I'm not going to lie. This robe thing sounds wonderful. I've never been but it sounds great. But I'm a fat ass. No one wants to see some flimsy threads hanging on for dear life around this guy.

The part that the other guys failed to mention is that nobody cares about that shit. In Brazil people are people and they do not have the hangups that some other countries may have. Go and let loose.

Who remembers the guy that used to work on Copacabana Beach back in the day that wore the sunga (Speedo) and had some big ass tumor in his nutsack? If that guy could walk around like that everyday then I assure you they will have no problem with you wearing a robe in a private fuck club. You will cheat the fuck out of yourself by going to DR instead of Brazil.

I've had threadbare, ratty robes at Monte Carlos before. I asked for a new robe and got a new robe. Added maybe 30's to the entire process of getting ready for the club. I agree with other posters, wearing a robe is part of the experience, especially when you start getting some thigh stroking during your "interviews".

4 x4 is located in Centro so it has the characteristic of a Centro club. It's a little dark in the club area vs Solarium which is brightly lit and more organized.

The best place to find an English speaking girl will be Scandallo in SP because there are more better educated girls working there but I don't think it is that important.

I've thought about SP and I'm still considering it. But since it's my first trip to Brazil, I want to see some of the tourist crap, too and I think Rio wins there.

Not just Scandallo. SP is a better place in general than Rio to find an English-speaking girl.

Going to ask a dumb question. I am 90% sold on taking my first trip to Brazil. I've been spending most of my mongering time in MDE lately and feeling like finding somewhere new. Flirted with the idea of DR, but since RJ is on the beach, that wins out. My question, or problem, is I don't speak Portuguese at all. I know Google Translate is a lifesaver and that'll be my plan I suppose. But generally speaking, I'm a guy who likes longer dates to get to know the girl. I'm going to learn some basic phrases but I'll never be able to reach conversational level before my trip. Question: is there a method, location, or style of mongering that would increase my chances of finding a girl with at least minimal English?

If you speak Spanish you will have a little chance but English you will be lucky to find a girl speaking good english in Rio.

I'm still not 100% sold. DR is still an option. Sosua seems like a bigger learning curve than Rio. Granted, my Spanish is passable and my Porto is non-existent so that's a definite plus. The other positive is flight time. But two facets of Rio seem to win out in my mind. I could be wrong with either point. But 1-Rio is just a nicer place to visit (thinking down time) and 2-while I've never been to Brazil, I believe that I'm more attracted to South American women than Dominican women.

Not only does Sosua has a beach (more than one, by the way), but it's a much nicer beach, too, along with the ocean where you can actually enjoy swimming -- unlike Rio beaches with their extremely strong currents where the waves will throw your around like a metal can.

The reason to go to Rio over Sosua is that a) it's a huge and fascinating city, b) mongering in Rio is WAY better and cheaper than Sosua. You're practically guaranteed to have a great time in Rio even as a newcomer. Sosua is a good place in terms of proximity to the US. Plus you'll do great if you cultivate your own harem over the years, but that takes time and patience that I lack. That's why there is a never-ending debate in the Sosua thread between veterans and expats on one side and everyone else.

I always arrive with a little carrying case or bag with things in it that I want to bring with me, so no problem there (I and others have even had luggage with us at times). You can leave the bag in the locker when you change. Also, I don't think there will be any issues with bringing your own robe. I once went to World carrying a robe in a shoulder bag because at that time they didn't offer robes for free and only towels. I like robes because they have pockets and are overall just more comfortable to me. If you don't want to stick out, make sure your robe is white and plain and otherwise nondescript.

But in my opinion, if you don't go through the whole change into a robe thing, then you're missing one of the most fun aspects of the entire experience, especially if it's your first time. If you're a big guy, then you can ask at the desk for an extra large robe, and they should be able to accommodate you. There have been times when I have asked for a little larger robe myself.

Or would it be slightly less embarrassing to wear street clothes at 4 x 4.

You can hang out in the lower level of 4 X4 in street clothes, or at least you could. I don't think that's changed. But in my opinion, if you don't go through the whole change into a robe thing, then you're missing one of the most fun aspects of the entire experience, especially if it's your first time. Not sure about bringing your own robe but I always wear my regular clothes in 4 x 4 and never had any weird looks. The only people's clothes, or lack of, that the men care about is the women's.

Monte Carlo is getting lots of good reviews lately and I plan on trying it again but when I went a few years ago, the robe I got was had holes and rips in it.

I was in Rio one time and I believe it was at Monte Carlo where I saw a couple of guys wearing monogrammed robes LOL! Well they were big guys so I guess it was a good idea to bring their own personal robes that were a good fit for them. Worst robes in town were at Centaurus man all tattered and shit. Invest in the business why don't you? I mean you're charging enough!
