Of everything you posted, this is the only thing I would push back on. I have suffered in economy for a long time being 6'2" and built to be an outside linebacker. Since shifting my budget to be in business class or better, I can truly start my vacation off in a more positive way compared to when I have been stuck next to a passive aggressive seat mate jockeying for arm and leg space. Coupled with someone next to me who fidgets the entire trip, moving away from sitting on top of each other has made a tremendous difference in how I personally want to travel.

But what's going on with the price of Brazilian national airline tickets? I was recently searching the airline sites for roundtrip CGH-SDU-CGH flights, and I followed up on what turned out to be a 600-price offer from one of the airlines which included 1st row seats and 1 checked in bag. The price seemed very good & I almost bought the ticket until I realized at the last moment that the quoted price was in dollars not reais. The website switched from reais to dollars when I changed the language from Portuguese to English. KKK.

So, hell yeah, I am going to rent a car and drive to RJ. The bus would work almost as well for me, but I think it will be fun to have a car in RJ. I have heard some bus lines are very good.

This is underrated advice and something I will 100% be doing before my next trip. Ill-fitting condoms really ruins the experience. Also I would recommend not letting the girls put the condom on you. USA to Rio (GIG) direct is down to Houston & Miami. On the other hand, direct flights to Sao Paulo (GRU) can be had from NYC, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, DC, Frankfurt, Madrid, London and maybe a few others. LAX offers via Panama or other connections. The bus or a short flight to SDU (Rio) via GRU. Or elsewhere (Brazil has wonderful cities outside of Rio with plenty of natural and feminine beauty).

There are more, but only in winter. Delta and LATAM from Atlanta. Same with American, also from JFK. And like I've mentioned in another post, Delta is starting service from JFK this December.

Yeah, well, I wish it was $100 an hour, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a business class fare to Brazil for $1 K each way. It's not happening, at least in this revenge travel reality.

I know one mongers with a consular passports for some bogus honorary consulate thing. Free upgrades, no lines and the cops run when he produces it. Advanced users only.

I've had GE since it was introduced, and it doesn't include an APEC pass. I understand you must apply separately and pay the fee. Besides, this is an Asia thing, what does it have to do with Brazil?

While the prices you paid for all night are pretty good in both countries, I'd say that in my experience Colombia is around 25% cheaper. I haven't been to Cartagena, but have been to Medellin / Cali / Bogota probably 30 times over 12 years and Rio 2 times (small sample size). I also primarily do 2 hours as opposed to all night. Start by adjusting your sleep cycle to the destination the day before you leave.

My advice is to invest in some 3M ear plugs, noise cancelling headphones, a media player with a range of good series (Breaking Bad, Borgias, Das Boot etc) and others. Bring ample batteries and / or select an airline with power under seat or USB power. Take some books to read. I like listening to novels or even interactive language software if you have a boom mike and can practice. The only thing that's wrong about your trip is 5 days. I recently had to cut my stay short due to an emergency at home, and it really sucked. -Casablanca was the best club for us, as we got the most girls from there. Dolce Vita is hit or miss, and same with Marakesh. Casablanca had over 25 girls every single night if you go around 11:00 pm- midnight.

It is ok to wear street clothes inside RJ termas. I do 100% of the time. I know the perks from easy access, and yeah, I am a party pooper for not going along with the local tradition, but I still prefer to wear my street clothes when visiting the Termas in order to hold onto my phone in my jean pockets rather than to rely on flimsy terma-robe pockets provided.
