Exactly. However you don't actually need the card; you only need the number. So there is no problem getting the CPF if you don't have an address in Brazil. They will either send your number through email or you can get it from the Receita Federal website.

If you put only a space between the letters, they will be parsed and condensed to Cpf. The ISG auto editor doesn't like acronyms or abbreviations.

I received my cpf # 5 years ago. I went thru bank o brasil one day with one of my copa girls; the next day she took me to the federal police in ipanema. She came as interpreter. No one in the bank or federal police spoke english, or could understand my gdp dialect of portuguese. The federal police will give you a receipt with your number, but the actual plastic cpf card takes a while to arrive in the mail. I applied nov 2008, and it took them until after carnival to mail me the card. Plus, the federal police office was closed nov-feb for vacation, then, of course, nothing gets done until after carnival anyway. All I needed was my passport. But you need an address in brasil to get the card mailed. Now I buy cell phone chips and other stuff one normal can't buy without a cpf.

I found what you need, all in English. And it does say: 3. Take the form and the original and a copy of the following documents to the Brazilian Consular Service with jurisdiction over your area:

And yes, the form you fill out is in Portuguese, but it is not complicated. You should be able to figure it out with a simple dictionary or online translation. http://translate.reference.com/

That was true until about 2005. Now if you receive no income in Brasil, you do not have to file the annual declaration.

Good to know. Thanks for that valuable info. The reason that I lost mine was because I didn't fill out the annual declaration. Guess I will apply for another one now.

You can just get your CPF on the same day you apply for it, once you are in Brazil. Just go to a local post office, ask to apply for a CPF. They will ask you for proof of residency. Just show them your apartment contract if you are staying at one, or make up a document if you have to. All they want to see is your address. Then pay R$5 or R$6 to the post office. They will give you a receipt that you take to a place called Ministerio the Fazenda (in Ipanema) and there you just have to bring the receipt from the post office and your passport to get your CPF. It should take about an hour or less wait time at that place.

Excellent. I appreciate you and Mr. Enternational assistance in this matter. Next time when I'm hitting Brazil, I don't want to cruise around without a CPF. BTW, I'm no longer impressed with Brazil anymore especially due to their first class prices. I have a great contact in Florida who just hooked me up this evening with a 5 8' tall super hot sexy P Rican model and the sex included anal and the damage was $200 for 2 hrs and she was stunning hot. No need to go to Brazil anymore to waste my time in Balcony or that rip off disco called Barbarella's.
