Went to Monte Carlo last night thinking it would be jumpin after the long JMJ holiday with the girls all primed and ready to go back to work. Ugh, I was sadly mistaken as there were less than 25 girls and 75% of them were overweight! I can't believe how lazy they are to not bother to come back after a 4 day weekend. Plus it's the end of the month and don't they need to earn rent money? I guess those days have passed as I used to hear stories of the gdps wanting to work more or offer some better deals near rent time. Anyway I left after a couple of hours without even taking that proverbial R$80 shower as Cartman likes to say. LOL.

I went to Rio thie last week of May 2013. Normally I take the.
Real Bus to Copacabana. There were some taxis.
There and I asked out of curiosity the fare. He said.
50R. I decided then to take the cab to Bobby's place on.
Rua Xaveria the Silva in Copacabana.
I arrived on Monday and left that Saturday from Monte Carlo.
Back to GiG. I offered another cab driver 50 Reals to go to.
GIG and he agreed. He also turned on his metro meter and by.
The time we arrived in GIG it was 48R. (No traffic)
I don't know what the meter rates are now but at least in May 50R (to and.
From the airport to Copacabana seemed to be a fair price.

ABG on the SP thread posted a link to a Taxi Fare Calculator. Sure enough it has a calculator for RJ as well as other Brazilian cities. It uses Google maps. It calculated a fare of $R45. 93 (Bandeira 1) , $R53. 91 (Bandeira 2) and $R77. 79 (Bandeira única) , for a trip from GIG to Copacabana. Using a different route, the return trip was $R46. 79, $R54. 88 and $R79. 07. Am not sure what the Bandeira's refer too. It also shows you the route. Nice find ABG.

Organizers estimated that 3. 5 million attended the Pope's Sunday Mass. People are probably still leaving the area. Copa merchants state they sold souvenirs equivalent to 4 Reveillons. Some also stated that Rio was NOT 100% prepared for such events. While Copa earned record profits, merchants in Guaratiba, (original site of Sunday's Mass,) lost big time and many went into debt when the mass was moved. Like many on this board, prior to departing for home, the Pope expresses feeling of saudades for Rio and Brazil, and stated that he would be back soon. LOL.
Oh the Humanity:

3 million people expected to attend Mass with the Pope at Copa beach Sunday. Close to 3 million are camped over night at the beach, street and sidewalk. If it reaches the 3 million mark it will be a new attendance record at the beach. Previous record has been 1. 5 to 2 million during Reveillon. Copacabana is overwhelmed. Complaints of long lines for buses. 2 hr waits for Restaurants, and not enough Portable toilets. One restaurant is charging $R5 for use of their bathroom. Also every 3 minutes a theft is reported. Yesterday a group of Brasilians were mugged in front of Copacabana Palace. Pick pockets are also targeting the attendees. Thefts or loss of cellphones, wallets, and documents are common. One attendee stated she thought the City would have been better prepared. Even the Copas locals are complaining: Their daily routines are disrupted, they can not get easily in and out of Copacabana, they were asked to remove their vehicles from the underground garages, but were not told them where to take them. All this disorganization, and it's only World Youth Day. What's going to happen during the World Cup and Olympics?
