This just got more complicated: If you wish to visit the Christ statue, O Christo, one now has to purchase the $R45 ticket online. Only authorized vans, departing from Largo do Machado, will be allowed access to the statue. Those without internet access can buy tickets at Lottery houses and at a Riotur kiosk in Candelária, in Centro of Rio. All this, done to end the illegal vans going to O Christo and relieve congestion around Cosmo Velho. My understanding, from reading the reports, only the authorized vans will be allowed, no more taxi's and private cars. BTW, this all went into effect today, without any prior warning. This being Brazil, of course the site crashed. Looks like the vans take one to an electric train at the base of Corcovado.

Operating time:

Monday to Sunday, from 8 AM to 7 PM; trains departing every thirty minutes.

Trip length: approximately 20 minutes.

Ticket office opening hour – 8 AM.
