He gave me the best rate (dollars to reals) when I arrived last Monday in Rio.

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum but I totally agree. I rented from Bobby this past week and must say even though I paid US$100 per day for 10 days it was worth every penny. Far cry from the normal aged apartments bc the unit was recently renovated, new bathrooms, nice touch w stainless steel fridge and new appliances and new / clean linen and towel stock (obviously from his laundromat)! I'd rather pay the extra upfront than get hit with surprise electricity charge. Will rent from him again in the future!

Seems the German tourist is out of intensive care and claims he took no pictures of drug dealers or bandits. Contents of his camera prove this is so. Fact is UPPs and pacification are useful but these places are stil damned dangerous for outsiders, especilly foreigners.

The UPP doesn't have a easy job as Rocinha is the largest favela in Brazil with about 120'000 people living there. There are some areas in Rocinha where it's very difficult for the police to patrol. In those areas the bandits tries to survive. One of those areas is Roupa Suja where the german guy got shot.

Absolutely agree, the guided trips are pretty much ok, but even they avoid area like roupa sujo, rua 2 and above.

A german tourist and his friend went to visit Rocinha after visiting Cristo Redentor. Visiting Rocinha is no problem, specially not after it became occupied by UPP.

However the german tourist had the absolute brilliant idea to take photos of armed bandits. He got rewarded by a bullit in his thorax.

This is bad PR for Rio, but IMO unfair PR. The german guy was acting extremely stupid so he has to take the consequences.

Took a walk through Balcony Sunday night and the ratio of men to women was about 10 to 1. Looked to be mostly Europeans.

Some guys were dressed in Medieval outfits so maybe a visit to middle-aged and worn women of Balcony was on the list of festival events.

LOL They were English soccer fans after the Brazil / England game at Maracana on Sunday. Those in medieval garb were dressed up as St. George, patron saint of England.

Comparing mongering in London to Rio is laughable at best. There's not a thing in London that competes with Rio. And the pricing? Oh my. London def should not be considered a mongering destination.

London has plenty of discrete girls, check Adultwork dot co dot uk.

They don't line the streets or hang out in multitudes of clubs but they are there. And its true to say they're from all corners of the world. Not least Brazil.

Example: last week I paid 300 real (well £100 actually) for a 21 yo busty Polish girl who worked around earls court area and did completa with anal and whatever for over an hour for that all in cost in some kind of fancy "apartment-hotel" with showers etc.

I can choose a range of cheaper options down to around 120-150 reals if I want something quicker.

I have been to balcony a total of 3 times over the last 3 years. First time, ut lots of ugly women, bI lucked out and actually left with a Hottie Argentinian chick who performed for one of the Samba schools. Aside form that, the other couple of times. I am surprised that the girls are not making more offers to meet outside of the club. I know I wouldn't want to pay 330R an hour, but I would offer them 200R to come to my hotel room. Maybe getting a hotel room in centro is the best way to go, have them swing thru before they go to work.
