The GIG WiFi didn't work on my phone when I landed, so no Uber. Interestingly, it worked fine on the departure day.

I was on the departure floor, so got out and got immediately accosted by a cabby who was about to head back to his car probably after just dropping off a fare. He wanted 150 to Barra Hyatt. I countered with 80. We had a few laughs, he agreed to 110. I wasn't in the mood to waste any more precious vacation time to save $2-3, so off we go. On the way there, he begged me to let him fill up on the way. Managed to steal about 15 minutes of my time, LOL.

I tell you this: I would happily pay 80 reais to buy a SIM card at GIG to avoid a trip to a store and wasting another 1-2 hours of my life. Getting a SIM card in BarraShopping was relatively painless for me this time, but if time is money, then it's twice so on vacation. You shouldn't feel bad about it.

That said, if I were you, I'd totally dispute that 260 reais BS with the card issuer. That's fraud, pure and simple.

100 reais was for the taxi to Copa. I was good with that.

The sim was 80 reais. That was already I rip off, but he added 80 more reais when my card was charged.

BTW, my sim in BKK from the mall was 300 baht with data.

We took an uber over to Motel Malaga, where he is staying. He has a suite with hidro and sauna for 330 r a day. He actually likes living in Malaga, as I did in 2013. I highly recommend this. Malaga is a great base of operation, easy walk to VM, and to massagemtijuca and the tijuca prives. Indeed, Tijuca is a good 'hood, middle class, one has to be a good jew observent of all the rules, and to make friends, but obviously much cheaper. What is your recommendation for healthcare for long term ex pats.

I am looking for a primary care for colonoscopy and gastro pain screening in particular now, but general preventative healthcare in general going forward.

I have been recommended health plans here some which price out at 2000 r or so per month. I forget the brand names, but they have a few in the basement of guanabarra shoor ppping.

Also how is the property purchase working? Any regrets or pros and cons.

It's people are nice and it has an educated population and 1st world health care system if you need it. Housing is cheap for gringos, provided you stay away from the crowded tourist traps. Food wise the restaurants are stingy with vegetables, it follows a cultural thing from what I can tell.
