For me, the problem with Brazil during the summer months is that it's actually their winter down there. It can be cool and rainy which is not what I prefer when down there on vacation, especially if in a hotel that's not really able to accommodate that weather with proper heating. After going down there once in like the June / July timeframe I said I would not go at that time of year again. I prefer October through March or April for weather-related reasons.

Thanks for your report. There is no reason to be paranoid in any Termas in Rio. They won't poison your drink. Also a passport is not needed. That ID BS is just for a few Centro buildings.

I've been in Rio in June-Aug 2-3 times and don't remember serious raining. I do remember pleasant non-sweltering temps and I still enjoyed the beach. Evenings could be a little breezy, though, so I remember wearing a light shirt over a tee a couple of times. But again, it's just my experience.

So I Ubered to Dark Room. A few tips:

You need to bring a copy of your passport. A photo on my phone worked fine. The front desk will give you an access card that you have to give back when you leave.

I felt safe walking around in daylight in the area -- lots of people, market going on, shops open. Be careful with your things for pickpocketing but seemed better than 4 x4 at night by a lot.

To get there you have to take the ele to 20 and then turn right, go down the first little hallway, open a door, go up the stairs 1 level, turn right. It'll be a black door w / DR on it.

Womp womp, closed. This was 11:30 am Saturday. I thought they had a Saturday Special going on.

Went through my notes and went down to 1417.

What it means in practice in a poor country like Brazil I have no idea, so yes, unless one's from a rich European country or Canada, I would keep my insurance too.

It is not difficult to find out how good the system is. You only need to search the public hospitals on Google map and read the reviews.
