I do all health care out of pocket. My colonoscopy I did in Colombia, Bogota. I find healthcare services are a bit more expensive in Brazil, so I do health care work in Colombia or India. This is why I don't have insurance, for over 10 years, because I can so much easier do things I need in these two countries and it is cheaper than paying those rip-off premiums.

Health plans in Brazil are -- as most things -- very bureaucratic. Early in the CoViD outbreak, we tried to sneak into some health plans quickly, but they required we show our SUS card, and to get a SUS card is next to impossible, not because you're not eligible, but because you have to show proof of residence and bullshit like this, and even then it takes years for them to visit you to enroll you. Just forget it. The good thing in Brazil is, if you really have some terminal or cancerous or even hepatitis see shit that requires long term costly treatment, you could still do it at the SUS. But for the simple stuff, just go private and have it done. I do my own lab checkups in low-bureaucracy labs (that don't need prescriptions).

Property purchase: first you need a CPF. Then you need to make sure you always research the property ownership history, the matricula, and you need to get all the certidoes negativas of all the sellers, check seller family status, if it is anything related to inheritance it can become a nightmare. Sometimes you buy stuff as posse, meaning there is no title. Stuff in communidades (encroachments) have no title. In general, you just have to contemplate what property ownership means on a deep level. Don't just believe in the magic fairy-dust of signed and stamped papers. You always need to give yourself more time before you exit the airport. Always first find the ATM (s), there always are ATMs in airports. In GIG they are upstairs, ask and you shall find.

Then, if you have no SIM card yet, you can use airport WiFi to get your Uber. I don't bother with taxis, they are such liars and rip-offs. The best I'll do is the 99 app which is common in Brazil and useful as a backup when Uber croaks as it often does, randomly.

As for SIM cards it can be a bit tricky in Brazil, because you'll have to put a CPF and perhaps RG in to enable them. I remember on my first ever arrival in Brazil, I got a TIM SIM card and I actually had to find a fake CPF on the internet to enable my internet on that SIM card. But on the street you can by ready to go SIM cards also. They should be around 5 or 15 reais. I usually charge with 100 reais at any pharmacy. Since I have a CPF and my number for over 10 years now, I don't have recent experience with getting started from scratch. On first arrival in Brazil, I would agree, SIM card is the biggest problem. (As opposed to Thailand where you have several SIM card stands in the airport, and the 90 day unlimited internet of Dtac was just 900 baht, that is amazing value for money.).

So therefore, always take ample time at the airport, use the free WiFi when it exists and get your Uber organized. Once you are outside, you're on your own and subject to lots of cheats. Brazilian taxi dudes are scoundrels. They rip off little old ladies all the time, it's not just the gringo who gets screwed.
