I don't disagree with you; definitely not. But everyone should be aware that the "prostitution ring" (for minors) is a bit of a smokescreen for these efforts to stamp out P4P in Copa. Remember the new soap opera that launched after the finale of Avenida Brasil is called Salva Jorge and details a favelada who gets caught up in [CodeWord908] / prostitution. This operation by the police had the same name. They are taking advantage of elevated public attention to make their move. And it was done in such a hamfisted manner that they basically probably caught up 20 "normal" mongers out of the 40 named suspects. Apparently there have been plainclothes police at Balcony most nights observing who goes there.

I would like to see Balcony closed. I think it brings a bad element to this side of Copa and attracts the wrong kind of gringo, as well. But I really resent the brutal approach of the Police here. You basically have no rights as a Brazilian citizen or resident, once a judge gets involved. If they have a search warrant, they are busting down your door and pointing a gun at your head even if you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rule of law is very superficial, it seems.

several major police raids occurred this morning in copacabana related to "**** sex"/"sexual abuse of minors" and the balcony prostitution / drug trade. was reported in o globo and other journals. police forcibly entered several residences and seized "evidence" that ranged apparently from actual films of **** girls to simply legal products associated with sex (e. g, condoms, panties). apparently all part of a targeted effort to shut down balcony, as well as complaints from a mother of the alleged **** victim.

apparently a tv station did an expose recently about the **** sex trade in rocina, which prompted the police into more drastic action.

police is investigating 40 people that might be involved in prostitution with minors. the police are targeting bars, hotels, taxidrivers and travel agencies. at least one guy is caught. the police also searched balcony and an apartment rented by three americans.

the sex trade in rocinha was exposed about three weeks ago. a veado offering minors to gringos. some of the minors were ex-gf's of traficantes that fled rocinha when upp moved in.

this operation isn't targeted at balcony. balcony is just a part of the scene. they want to clean up all of zona sul.

it's funny this should come about now. didn't the news do a segment on drugs and prostitution at balcony some time before? in this instance i would have to put questions marks all around the word victim. did any balcony mongers lure this girl from her comfy couch at home to go down to balcony and entice her to sell herself? more than likely she went of her own free will with friends or whatever in hopes of finding foreigners to cash in on. seized underwear? lol. what kind of bullshit is that. if that's the case then everybody in the world is going to jail.

Looks like they have an IP filter, it works if you a brazilian proxy, you can get a decent one using hidemyass proxy lists.

What they are doing isn't nice, etiquette demands that at least a 'Access Denied' sort of error message be displayed instead of quietly dropping packets.

I land in Rio on the 22nd and I'll be sure to post all I can. What I need help with is how to post pics. Last time I was there was late June early July and I'm a subscribing member who would like to reciprocate the efforts of those that have had constructive posts on this board that have helped many of us. I want to thank Sherroid for his great posts and I hope whatever info I post from the ground will be of value. Brazil continues to be great with the same scene and excellent selection. The only exception is Copacabana.

Unfortunately Brazil has become more expensive. Not a big problem if you skip the expensive termas etc.
