That's a nice thought, more informative posts. The few informative reports shared in this thread quickly gets burrowed in tons of posts complaining on how expensive everything has become and how everything was better before. It doesn't encourage anybody to share new information.

But that's the truth, Rio is too expensive now, the shitty apartements at Copa, are to high, even in Botafogo, Centro the same, and the girls at the cheapest places like a dirty shit hole VM. 2 years ago wanted 28 reais, now 60 reais. Not to mention insane prices in termas around 350-400 reais for 40 min. Nobody cares to go there anymore for mongering.

Come on Guy's, share this wealth of information. That's two recent postings with the above sentiment, but no Hard info. Sure, simple enough, stay out of Copa and Ipanema. I believe Chris likes to stay in Centro hotels, IIRC. But staying there limits ones weekends options: Vila Minosa and Lapa, metro to Copa, taxi back to centro.

A recent search for accommodations in Botagofo and Lapa areas were just as expensive as Copa. And there were not that many places. I've visited Nitoroi once, many years ago. But besides the New Jack City building, what else is there to do there?

As the World Cup and Olympics draw nearer, I fear these places outside of Copa will also become outrageously expensive. But that's in the future, let's help a fellow monger who's planning a trip in the next month or two by providing more informative posts. (Insert Big Smiley here.) thanks in advance.

As a side note, according to Mercer 2012 survey (Cost of Living worldwide rankings) , Sao Paulo (12) and Rio de Janeiro (13) are the most expensive cities for expatriates across both North and South America (New York is 33rd). London is 25th.

I also found two hotels that are better than Rio Roiss in Niteroi for less. I've given up on the overprice roach and bed bug infest Copa and Ipanema apartments long ago.

I hear you. Thing is I don't necessarily like doing all the work when I'm paying. I can beat my own meat at home and do all the work. I'm in this for the kick ass experience not for a chick that I do all the work with. Last time I was in Rio I literally got a 45 min BJ from a chick at my apt. In Sosua most of the girls are too lazy to even do half of that. They'll be complaining,"papi, papi" before too long. There is a difference of about $50 BTW a pick up off the streets of Rio (I pay 200 BRL) and the streets in sosua. Obviously the termas are more expensive. In my humble opinion the service in Rio kicks the crap out of Sosua on it's worse day.

No way you can find a nice hotel in Rio for 100 us$. You're lucky if you can get a room for 450 reals in a mid-level option like Mercure, and for those rates you need to book well in advance to ensure you can get a reservation. Brasil is ridiculously expensive nowadays. Ipanema Carioca is right, today, all bets are off in Brasil as the country is flush with cash. Todays Brasil is not the Brasil of 10 years ago or even of 5 years ago.

A lot of guys complain about the quality at Balcony but in my opinion I'd say about 75% of the chicks in Sosua are about on par with what you can find at Balcony.

Yeah but the problem is the quality in the DR does not compare most of the time. Those chicks just can't fcuk like those in Brazil. For that porn star experience Rio is the heavyweight champ of the world.
