Let me prefice the following by saying that Esche Cafe is a highend Cigar bar / Rest. Which is not a place for pay for play. I enjoy cigars / scotch, etc. So this place is a fine place for good cigar and great bar service. Good jazz music and mainly highend customers. BTW, great food as well. This place is mainly brazilians. Its not really a tourist attraction from what I have encountered there. Again, this is not a place for gdp's. However, I was there last month on a Thursday night and to my surprise, there were a good amount of single ladies drinking it up around 10 pm or so (I usually go during the day time). Please keep in mind there are many bussiness people there in suits and they have there clicks and so forth. Many of the ladies there are professionals and make very good salaries. But if you speak good basic portuguese and you live or work here in Rio, I think you can score here. Thats just my feel on the situation. I had a couple of nice chats with older ladies than me, but I got a good vibe, I could have continued that chat somewhere else with them. I had to leave because I had friends comming over to my apartment that night. So if you are up for a challenge in trying to meet some sophisticated, professional ladies, this place might have potential. I will be making another trip there before I head back to the states.

When you're here for a while, you have to tread a little more carefully to preserve what you've cultivated. I think other long term residents like Bubba Boy would back me up on this (and he'd say I don't tread lightly enough). I agree. I like the Leblon location only for the fact that there tend to be some groups of chicks there (older like you say). The Centro location on the other hand is fantastic for ambiance. All dudes in suits or rich older guys with bottles of whiskey. I find it a much more masculine, old style vibe. And if I'm just up for a smoke and a drink (and a great steak sandwich) I go there.
