I was walking back to my hotel at 2 am drunk on 9 or more shots of Tequila. I stopped to flirt with 2 SW's a block from my hotel. Even though I was out of it, fortunately I was aware enough to feel a hand attempting to lift my wallet from my back pocket. I stopped her just in time and she apologized. I laughed and told the 2 of them to beat it which they did.

You are walking down the street drunk in a foreign country when 2 locals try to rob you. You tell the robbers to leave the vicinity and they did? You must be Batman.

Well Two out of the three of us found our phones missing on arrival at hotel! The hands on had been hands IN pockets. Both of us spent half the night changing passwords etc. Mega buzz killer. Just don't walk at night period IMO.

Never had a problem with this and I have been walking that street alone at all times of night for over 20 years. The problem is not walking. The problem is letting someone get up on you. Were they chicks or dudes? Good video from a couple weeks ago.

That is a direct observation from one of my regulars, who lives in a favela.

That's why I live in Barra, and advise anyone staying longer than 3 days to do the same.

Inspired by a friend of mine who always wears shorts with four zip up pockets. Two up top in front and two below in front. None in back. I ordered the same from Amazon. No-name brand but great quality and look. The pocket I keep my phone in gets unzipped and zipped countless times per day, now for more than three months, and has no sign of failing.

Pickpockets probably move on to easier targets. I hope.

Got to be it, address matches up too, thanks. By the looks of the video, doesn't look like it had anything to do with the club or anyone in there which is why maybe the club is not named anywhere in the articles I was trying to search, the staff look shocked as well and caught off guard. Stay safe out there everyone.

That's a very old trick. The victims are usually newbies. There is no reason to avoid walking along Avenida Atlantica as long as you use common sense.

There's an area along Ave Atlantica where the girls (trannies actually) swarm guys for the pick pocket.

Keep your hands in your pockets and firmly say no obrigado, and keep a brisk walk, or just cross over to the beach side of the road, along the kiosks.

Vagabundo too is sorry to hear about that, but concurs with Sperto. Further. That just doesn't happen in Barra. Barra is the real rich, mostly white (unfortunately, it is de facto whites only) area where a broken windows theory of policing results in zero tolerance for property theft like that.

Just search Posto 2, Barra, for places.

Also, just make a little wrist leash out of some parachute cord for your phone.

Phone theft has claimed victims who are air force officers as well as dozens that I alone hear about from ISG-ers every year.

Think prevention. As a rule, in high risk areas, like centro, when I have my cell phone with a wrist leash out, I also have my taser flashlight out. The locals know it is a choque flashlight, and no one wants to get tasered.

Is Kalabria and Casablanca like a smaller Help or is like Barbarelles which I hated.

Kalabria is pretty cool-basically a small bar with some girls around it. Go in and scope it, have a beer, pick one or don't. I think there's a room on site but most people takeout. Casablanca is similar (although I could be thinking of Marakesh) but with more of a club / disco vibe, sort of a cross between Dolce Vita and Kalabria. Actually yeah that's Marrakesh. Casablanca straight up club.

Sorry to hear that Steve, love all your reports. Still not sure what exactly happened to you here, who were you walking with and who got your phone? Anyways most important thing is hope you're safe and got the accounts sorted, best of luck.

I had a girl come over yesterday for some afternoon delight, I met her in dolce vita one night and she asked me if I've ever been to Kalabria, I said no. She told me two people got shot dead there last night and she showed me the security video. On that night I went to Casablanca for the first time, 3 doormen in front tell me 100 reais to enter which includes 2 drinks of local national drinks nothing imported, I pay and go in. I ordered a beer and I sit on the stage, no dancers yet. The place had a good amount of girls at midnight. I look around and there are some very nice ones. A very beautiful girl comes and sits next to me and we talk, I said I was going to get a drink do you want one? She said get me a medium bottle of champagne LOL. I go to the bar and ask how much is a medium bottle of champagne? Almost 300 reais LOL, I said give me a beer and I never return to this beauty. I go over and talk to this beautiful MILF type, I asked her how much for you to go with me, she said you pay the house 1,000 reais, I said you're kidding, I finished my beer and left.

I went to Casablanca for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Agreed on the drinks, total rip off. 77 reias for a mixed drink like Red Bull vodka. In terms of the girls, I don't know if there was miscommunication but that $1,000 is ridiculous. I made a huge mistake of getting a room there as I thought it might be like a terma LOL, it was tiny and more like had a couch rather than a bed. Also I'm certain that there's no facility for the girls there to wash themselves, just tiny bathroom as I went in the back. Anyways lesson learnt, never get a room there. The fee to get a room there is $150 reias or you pay $200 reias to the club to take the girl outside, the lady told me whatever you decide with the girl is between you two but these prices were fixed. I'm not sure where this $1,000 reias came from, that's crazy. I wonder if they were trying to rip you off or there was miscommunication. In terms of the girls, the range was like $300 reias to $600 or so I believe depending on which girl was asking, this does not include the $150/200 you pay to the club.

Steve, I am sorry to hear about your incident and your loss, but come clean, you guys were probably having too good a time and nobody was paying adequate attention to what was immediately going on right in front of you.

In over 30 years of mongering, the only time I felt wandering hands was one night in BKK when I was walking back to my hotel at 2 am drunk on 9 or more shots of Tequila. The moral of my story is always pay attention to your surroundings and who you allow to enter your personal space.
