I admit being a Rio addict. I got a week left and I'm planning my Jan 2012 trip for Rio already. TAM prices are lower than American Airlines. I have never traveled on TAM before. Is TAM any better than AA in terms of service, flight experience etc?

Yesterday, I was reading O Dia on the Metro during my trip to Bel. There is an outstanding deal available for renting an apt. According to the ad, its a 2Br in copacabana for R$80 per day.

I bought my apt in US two years ago so I know maint charge can add up end of the year. However, I am planning to use it for my own stay and hire a local real estate agency to rent it during my absence. I can get enough money while I'm in town for my next vacation. They key is to find a good lawyer and an honest agency. I might be eligible for a resident visa too. I have asked plenty of people about the property prices in Brazil. They are going up fast due to economic growth and the Olympic 2016.

Spent a wonderful hour at Bel yesterday with a hot loira. R$100 (1hr) , R$3 (metro to centro) , R$12 (4 Antratica beers) , R$50 (completa) , R$20 (cab to Copa) = total R$185 I swear the room at Bel was better than many Tier 1 Termas like MC. 4X4 and Luomo. Queen size bed with a clean sheet, AC rooms, music controler, with nicely decorated walls.

Went home, ordered Dominos pizza, took a quick nap, called Star Cris, and banged 19 why / old Mel. Star Cris was R$150 (2hrs) , R$16 (cab fare) , R$50 (completa) = total R$216. Went to Balcony at midnight, took cell numbers of two blonds, drank two drinks and went home to sleep with my both eyes closed. LOL. Today is Friday and I am ready for 4x4 run to bang my favourite, nice, hot, tall, Amazonian type garota name Viviane. I might stop by Balcony afterwards for a caprinha. I have taken plenty of pics but I don't trust the local Internet cafe computers. I will post them once I get back to US.

I would check with the owners of the apartment rental outfits. The one guy I have dealt with is telling me this has been a really hard year to keep his apartments rented. Dollar weak, gringos out of cash. Don't be the last buyer in a bubble.

Barao do Flamengo had a room every night, except for one night. On that one night, I took metro to Estacio metro station and walked over to Malaga motel where per noite was 59R.

Interesting strategy. I'm curious, during the daytime until 8PM do you have any place to stay at? You leave your stuff every day in the laundry room?

During day from noon until 8 PM, no, I am on my feet, usually at a terma. I carry 2 packs, and pack efficiently:

1. Thule Crossover Computer Pack.

- 2. 5 pound lap top.

- 2 smart phones (one American, which is in airplane mode to be switched on for emergency back up; the other with Brazilian sim card)

- power cords.

- lightweight windshirt for the rain storm.

- favorite supplies for the terma.

2. Blackhawk tactical pack.

- extra clothes, like a dress shirt and pants (I can buy dress shoes, but last trip didn't use)

- toiletries (note what you don't need to carry on a flight and can buy at the drogeria across from barao do flamengo. Toothpaste, mouthwash, etc)

On my body: running shoes, nylon triathlon socks, camping underwear, REI cargo shorts, Nike DriFit shirt. All the clothes can be washed every night or two.

Over the trips over 4 years, I have just eliminated the stuff I don't need.

Recently I have flown on Tam and American to Rio. Business class on American, coach on Tam but I have to say the Tam flight in coach was very good in service / food and sexy flight attendents. My next trip is on Tam simply because of price, much lower than American but it's ok because the service is real good.

I've been watching the board here for a few weeks, and want to toss in my 2 cents based on 13 trips to Brazil, including 12 Rio, and a bunda-count of 150:

1. Instead of the apartment in Copa, consider lodging in the following: Barao do Flamengo, on the metro, at the Largo do Machado stop. Per noite, if you get in after 8 PM to noon next day is 69R, or about what. 35 US Dollars. To get to 4x4, hop on the metro, and get off at Uruguiania stop. To get to Luouomo, metro to sisquiero in Copa. Compare that cost to 55 to 60 US Dollars for the cheapest Copa apartment.

2. Barao do Flamengo is next to scortshow escort agency, so no taxi for the girls. 120R for 2 hours.

When I first hit Rio back in 2008, I was hitting 2 or 3 of those 2 hour sessions a day, but I've dialed back to one agency per day, or one Terma a day, or one pro a day.

3. The real deal in Rio is out of Centro / Copa. Get on the metro at 5 AM, and go to Central station, supervia to Zona Oest, out in the places like Campo Grande. I had a pro back in 2009 that I liked, and in 2010, she asked me out to her place for the night, which was in Campo. Go early do a map recon. Get on a cab or mini-bus and get out to Barra the Tijuca, where the real Cariocas live. Take the ferry to Niteroi, where I had some school contacts for Feliz Natal, and New Year back in 2008/2009. Thanks for the info on the thread about the places like tigresa tijucas. Got to work that into the routine. Also, I never could find the actual address for 502. I figured out from here that the street address is 65, not 502, so that will be taken care of next trip. First 10 trips out of 13 were in a Copa or Ipanema apartment. Not bad, but for a 1R tip, you can toss a bag into the "rouperia" of the el cheapo sex motel and head out for lunch at 12 noon, and then over to 4x4 at 2 PM, grab a sauna, and scope out the girls to hit it by 5 PM to save the 50R charge. Back in Barao do Flamengo by 8 or 9, grab a late night girl.
