Posts: 12Looking for a surfing spot combined with night life in Brasil
Greetings Gentlemen!
I am planning my first trip to Brasil and need your advice.
What I want is to find a place with surfing activities in Brasil. I mean surfing spots with surfing schools for the beginners. I have googled two places of this kind in Brasil: one is called Santa-Katarina or something, and another one is located very close to Rio. Could you provide me with some information about destinations of this kind: which place to choose, what about nightlife there, what about hotel prices, and of course what about garotas there?
Apart from surfing of course I want to visit Rio. A small problem is that I will probably land in Sao-Paolo and then go to Rio by bus.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

I can relate my friend. Lucky for me I came down on Wednesday just before everything closed. I was informed Wednesday that things will be closed on Thursday (Brazilian Holiday) and Friday (Good Friday). With that being said, I fucked like there was no tomorrow all day Wednesday. Met a really cool girl at Balcony on Wednesday night that spoke good English. Since there were no other options, I stayed with her from Wednesday night until this morning (we had sex about 8 times). She showed me around Brazil (Christ Statue, Sugar Loaf, the beach, and the favela in which she lived). She cooked for me and the food was great. We also went to the swing club 2a2 on Thursday night, had lots of fun there, although I wished we would have went on another night since Thursday night is singles night. Many men there watching us do the deed while jerking off. I gave her R500 before she left today. Now that it's Saturday, I heard that Luomo will be opening today. I will be headed there soon!

The taxi driver I was just with in Copa said he likes it. It is only Monday. Friday from 6:00 AM. 9:00 PM. He said traffic seems to flow smoother especially with fewer buses. I think it will be like most things, it will take some time to get used to. Recently I witnessed the deliver of a fleet of open tourist buses like they have in Barcelona. Some time ago I told the powers that be in Rio that they should visit Barcelona where they do tourism better than almost anywhere else in the world. Of course Barcelona has dedicated bus lanes, consistent routes and you cannot even stop a taxi on the street only get on and off at taxi stops. My bet is that will be next. Not always, but sometimes Brazilians actually listen. I have a little more confidence than most that they will be ready for both the World Cup and the Olympics. However, I do agree that it will be as a result of some outside assistance. There definitely is a need here for Americans with business acumen who speak Portuguese. They have more than enough corrupt bureaucrats living off the government teat, so none of those need apply.

This year I only saw a couple of GP's at Meia Pataca. They looked very lost and sad. I heard (but I can't confirm it) that Meia Pataca only allows GP's to sit down if they order food. If so, that would scare them away.
The touts on ho-beach are having a hard time now, desperate for business. They deserve hard times as they are cheating scumbags. Yes, some of them are gone (like the old guy with the elephant-balls).

I've spoken with several taxi-drivers regarding the faixa azul. About half of them liked the faixa and the other half disliked it. It's good for them being able to use the bus-faixa when they have passengers. The problem is that they can't drive in the bus-faixa looking for passengers. They fine you if you abuse the rules.
Another note one the buses: There are 20% less buses passing Copa now after the changes. Less buses means less traffic. One problem with the new category system of buses (BRS1 etc...) is that there are longer between the bus stops.

Posts: 413After having been away from Brasil for 2 years for various reasons while at the same time, exploring other parts of the world, I am feeling a lot of saudades and want to return to Brasil and more specifically to Rio very soon. Read the past few pages of the Rio thread to get a feel of how the scene is nowadays. Got to say, there's some good info, and I noticed that some things haven't changed in years of reading the Rio forum.
Sperto, as usual, thoroughly enjoy your very in depth posts about not only Rio, but also Manaus and other areas. Two thumps up man! Drinks on me should we ever meet in Rio or elsewhere in Brasil.
Bubba, what can be said about your endless generosity for creating and then updating each year your Bubba Guide? If we ever meet in Rio, drinks and a session at a terma of your choice (except Centaurus for the simple reason that they are rip off artists and not worth the extra $R) on me as a token of gratitude for your stupendous work and generosity.
Christopherd, I always enjoyed your literary prose on daily life in Rio and noticed you haven't been posting in Rio much. Are you going to be parading in next year's Carnaval?
Sangue Bon, while I have yet to go into a swing club, I enjoy your posts about them. Please keep'them coming!
Good, entertaining and educating posts.
BTW, any updates on the normal / non pro clubs / bars and lounges? I expect that in 2 years, things have changed in the club scene and new ones have opened while old ones been closed. Would appreciate any updates on that area as well.
Valeu gente.

I can just say this though. I walk to work and walk home on Nossa Senhora, every day. Except the days I take a taxi back from my gym up by the Othon Palace. And honestly, even at 9pm at night or 9. 30pm at night, that damn faixa azul lane has massively slowed down traffic. Probably 5 more minutes onto a 10 min cab ride. It drives me nuts. Any time I take a cab now in Copa, that lane seems to cause problems. I'm not sure why we have such a different impression of it, but that's mine.

Let me try a prediction: in 4 years the stadiums are overgrown, the real-estate market has collapsed and Rio is back to normal.
The favelas are NOT run anymore by gangs as people found out how good life is without this scum and are cooperating with the law. The law will get again more lenient towards the girls and the girls will return to some places in Copa. (not nessesary to Balcony). Corruption will go on on a small scale. As usual. Tourists will come back after the value of the Real has dropped considerably. Not the Olympic tourist but the "normal" monger. Mongering will all the time continue in Centro an VM. Or Cidade de Meninas.
Let us see if I was right in 4 years.
For the meantime I will continue to monger here in Europe, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine and Germany.

My guess: I think there will be some overgrown stadiums in Rio a couple of years after the Olympics (just like those after the PanAm). I think that the estate prices will fall or at least stop rising after 2016. I highly doubt that the favelas will be retaken. The gangs would be killed or chased of to another favela, in Zona Norte.
GP's? No worry, there will always be plentiful of p*ssy for sale at low prices.
P.S Bravo, your inbox (PM) is full.

My waiter was a veteran of the place so I asked him how he likes the current situation. He told me that since Help closed and the dollar is so weak there are no more Gringos / tourists in Rio. As a result of that there are no more girls. The reason why there are no girls here at Meia Pataca is because there are no mongers buying their product.
He told me he misses the old days when the place was packed with mongers and putas and 30 or 40 putas were circling meia pataca looking for business.
Same for the touts on Ho beach, most of them are gone but I told them why should I sit here and drink a beer at 7 reais when I can go next door for 3 reais. They told me special price for you 4 reais. I said plus you have that thief here Jose at CiCi barraca because of him I would never sit in this area.
As long as there will be girls in Rio I will find them, I never leave any stone unturned.

Well, folks I finally made it to Rio, which is a good part. The bad part is that I have booked a nice suite in a sex hotel in Tijuca for 3 nights during some sort of no sex twilight zone. Scortshow / Karlamodels wouldn't take my calls over skype, while f*ing TIM wants CPF number, which I can't register be / see all TIM offices are closed. StarCris did send one chic from Copacabana but it cost almost same money in inflated taxi fees (feriada) as the deed! Centro looks totally abandoned during Thu / Fri so all the famed places (4x4) are close but closed (pun intended). Even Uomo is closed. I might as well go to church. Being stuck in a nice love hotel with a bunch of reais and no action in the sexual ground zero is the ultimate irony. I guess I'll actually go see the standard touristy stuff and than hope for better luck next week.

Posts: 1364Rio world cup & olympics
the last reports i read by the world cup body were rep001hing on rio's progress for the upcoming world cup. they are way behind on everything. yes progress has been made by rio as far as safety etc, but they are still way behind on where they should be to becoming a world class city capable of holding 2 of the biggest international events.
