I would recomend taking 2 Azithromycin 500 mg(Azitromicina) tablets (1 gram total) and 500 mg Cipro (Ciprofloxacilina), after discontinuing exposure, or on leaving Rio. Works great as a combination for Clamydia and Gonorhea, as a single dose treatment. Clamydia can be contracted by females from contact with infected surfaces or towels, on rare ocasions, but very hard for a guy to explain, how he contracted it other than by sexual contact. The pool explanation seems far fetched, but might work in a pinch.
There is a project in the works to forbid the sale of antibiotics in Brazil, without a prescription, which will be retained by the Pharmacy.

But No, it doesn't say Cipro. It says Bayer on one side and I think 2500 on the other.
I wasted 2 pills with my first attempts. Let's just say crushed Cipro pills are extremely bitter. The one that worked was not crushed. And late at night.
I also found out about Cephalexin. Unfortunately it's only available via injection. I got one of those in Mexico as well. I am now clean, and I don't know which drug worked.
I will basically have to have sex with my wife again and see if she re-infects ME. If that happens I will have to fess up. And will probably be looking for a new place to live.

As of 2006, the CDC no longer recommends cipro and other Fluoroquinolones for gonoccocal infections in the U.S., I don't know if that also goes for being infected in South America.

I would not recommend that you take Cipro for the Clap (which is better known as Gonorrhea). You would be much better off taking either Amoxicillin or Cephalexin which are much less harsh on your system and would take care of the problem within a few days. Cipro should really only be used for serious issues such as Typhoid or other serious gastrointestinal infections.

I recently got sumthin from a BBBJ. NGU, (Non Gonococcal Urethritis.) Several types of germs cause NGU, the most common and serious is chlamydia. (Is that the Clap?) Took about 2 weeks to clear up. I got it from a swing party, not a GDP, and while not in Rio. It's similar to a urinary track infection.
Mrblackluv, have you been in the Hotel's pool? A long time ago I got an infection after going to a public pool. You could try that one on the wife. If she knows, you've been to Rio though, she may act suspicious. (1+1 = 2)
I agree with you on the CBJ, and sterile touching. NO Fun there. But you married with chillin, and extra precautions are warranted.
You also have to be careful in self diagnosis and medicating. If Cipro does not cure it, it may make whatever you have more resistant and require stronger antibiotics. Best to get tested. (I never knew about NGU before this.)
Best of Luck.

This post really isn't specific to Rio, it's more applicable to this entire hobby.
I'll add it here because it happened in Rio.
I've now been back almost two weeks. I'm currently in Mexico on spring break with the wife and kids. (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise due to the easy availibility of prescription antibiotics).
Sooo. It all started with a lump in my groin area maybe 4 days after my Rio trip (swollen gland). It ended with burning/stinging while [CodeWord112], and a yellow discharge noticed a few days ago while here in Mexico.
Thats right. You guessed it. The Clap.
Now. How in the fuck did I get The Clap, when I wore a condom with every GDP I banged in Rio? Research on the internet and confirmed by a Dr. Says that it is possible (albeit not likely) to get STD's from BBBJ's. Apparently The Clap (and chlamydia) can live in the throat and infect whomever is sucked. Another Dr. Suggested that what is more likely is that I played with the infected GDP's pussy and then touched my dick.
Of course I have no idea who it was, or how/when it happened.
Some of you may say this is HS Sex Ed 101. But I was floored to say the least.
Luckily I happened to be in Mexico when I found this out. I was able to get Cipro with no questions asked, and then very luckily trick my wife into taking it. I then had to figure out how to avoid having sex with her for 3 days while on vacation. (2 days and counting so far).
I am new to mongering and was having a great time. But this has seriously put a damper on my mongering attitude. Getting my wife caught up in an STD is waaaay more than I EVER bargained for. This could have potentially caused me a divorce. It's just not worth it.
I guess CBJ's, and an almost sterile attitude about touching could have prevented this. But where's the fun in that?
Anyone have any advice or comments.
I'm at a loss. And praying that either my wife didn't get infected or that the Cipro works.
Do I just chalk this up to "luck of the draw".
(You lay down with dogs. You just might come up with fleas).

So Tuesday nght after a major rainstorm decided to go and revisit one of my old stomping grounds Prais Cafe, 5mins by cab from my hotel.
What hadn`t realized was that for some reason Tuesday is the major day!! Arrived about 11.30pm and the funk music was deafening.
I am knwn at this place so no entrance fee. Lots of people, good looking girls, frenzied atmosphere, after a couple of days just'chilling' I wasn`t ready for this.
Great girls some stunningly good looking, but impossble to talk as the music was very loud. Talked to a couple of girls in the reception area, where you have seating, got some numbers may ring tomorrow. In the end left at 1.30 am and went home.
Last day tomorrow as I go on to China, am feelng I wasted some tme.

Yes, it is all a matter of taste. Personally I don't catch diseases from mattresses and I usually have a knack for knowing what will upset my guts as far as food goes. I've rarely met unclean women in VM. The health consciousness there is at the forefront of sexual health awareness. The freedom of the women who choose to work there, while not perfect because of their financial circumstances, is more visibly not open to control for gain than other establishments. There are community projects to help the women find other trades, and good community support. It's not a haven, but it has a lot of good things going for it for the women there, and it's run from the grass roots up. Basically, it stinks, but only to the nostrils, not to the higher sensibilities.
Here are one or two articles, both academic and trivia, that forum members might enjoy.
I started trying to post google-translated versions where possible but not sure if it will work on all browsers so if there's only Porto, please just search for or use the originals and click on google translate if you require.
Long academic study covering many aspects of Mimosa
Wikipedia article on Mimosa
(original Wiki here
Official Vila Mimosa site (Porto only) nb this site generates a WOT warning - it looks ok but of course use at your own risk.
Free legal rights provisions for VM workers long pdf article - sorry couldn't get it to work in English
Provision of free internet services and access to medical advice for VM residents O Dia article
Good background article
Contrasting views of girls working there
Washington Post article on VM fighting AIDS (ahead of the US)
Fashion show in VM with both professional models and VM workers (includes HD pics) and clothes designed by sex workers
(I was glancing at a page about an annual beauty contest in VM as well but can't find the reference)
Free English classes provided for VM workers (sorry, could only get this to work in Porto)
I could go on, but it is something for anyone to research for themselves. I at least have spent a lot of time there and so perhaps feel I have a little more knowledge or insight than those that feel it is not their type of place. But I thought forum members might like the articles when it often comes up in discussion. Hope it's useful, or interesting, or both.
(sorry if there's typos or mixed urls - can only spend so much time on this as am in the office with a pile of work haha)

I only scored once in there. Basically it was girl who liked to dance and whose first words weren't 'buy me a drink.' She didn't ask for a drink all night. Her sister came over onto the dance floor and shared one of her drinks with us a couple of times. After at least an hour of dancing (which I happen to like - and was generally impossible to do without commitment in Help latterly, except when the Brasilian dancefloor at the back was open), I told her how much I was going to pay if she came back. By that time we had bonded to the point where anything else would have seemed strange, but I like to cover these details. She looked gorgeous on my balcony in the morning.

But it doesn't matter much because there is already a replacement for the Terraco Atlantico and Help combo and that is Balcony bar and Dolce Vita. It really is the same venue with an outdoor restaurant/bar and inside disco, right next door to each other, exactly the same set up but in miniature.
Outside at Balcony bar is pretty much the same people who hung out at TA and inside Dolce Vita is pretty much the same crowd that would have gone inside Help but I think per capita higher quality. Entrance fee is cheaper but drinks are more expensive.
Dolce Vita does not have the same atmosphere as Help had. Of course I went into Help to find a girl but now I see I also liked hanging out there, sometimes just to get lost and find a corner and watch the whole scene and listen to the music pretty much incognito. Then if I saw something I liked I could make a move on it. Dolce Vita is too small for this, there are no corners to hide and watch the scene, there isn't really much room to move around and check everything out, you find a spot and you're stuck there.
There were some nice girls there so maybe it will suffice in the interim until a larger Help replacement comes along in the next year or two.

Staying in Barra as have done on my last few trips. I like to surf and swim. Yesterday decided on a long run through the ecological resrve alongside the beach then up to the end of Recreio. After an Agua de coco, walked across the road to look for a taxi and found a new ***** house! Its been open a couple of months and opens from 9am to 10pm. As it was about 1pm I ddecided to do inside. The place is in a newish lokking commercial building on the 2nd floor in a quiet neighborhood
Its sort of Sao paulo style, they introduce each girl to you, and you choose who takes your fancy. I took a very cute young girl for an hour at R$150.They had 4 girls to choose from when I was there but they said there are normally more
Nice way to spend the afternoon! Went back to the beach for a caipirina at a kiosk then taxi back.
