maybe i should post this at the carnival section but the topic is not about carnival but about places where i should go during carnival to have a good time. with the chicas that is.
i understood helpee is gone and balcony seems not similar. correct me if i'm wrong.

maybe because of carnival, places will act different ? i just don't know.
please lead me in the right direction : i have only 5 nights in rio before continueing to buzios and i don't like to waste 3 nights by searching on the field only.

thanks for the report and i'm glad that i haven't bought my ticket yet. i was strongly thinking about switching things up this year and making a

thanks for your kind words, I have still to share and to report my session at Centaurus and the last one at 4x4, so still something interesting to be read and then my final thoughts of these 3 weeks in Rio, probably the kind of reports will make feel somebody depressed, but surely no fake or bullshit reports from me, just my, personal, point of view, nothing more than that.

every night I saw two police cars on the left and right of the balcony, I never saw them asking or talking with turists, neither asking ID, they just watch and care about what happens. Remember around of Balcony there are many children asking money, often guys playing capoeira and then asking money and yes, not only nice faces, but for me now from Balcony until Prado Junior looks like million times safer than when Help was still alive.

Balcony now, especially around Balcony is a really ugly zoo to my eyes with the ONLY good thing you pay no entrance and instead of hot beer from Balcony bar, after long waiting and for 6,60 reais I buy one from the seller close to Balcony, just couple of meters far, for 2,50 reais and not only me, but I saw many do this, cheaper and faster too.

And so far as the 80% of person around Balcony just stand up, now it miss only one that will rent the chairs....

point one, "too rough" the local favela girls are a balcony in larger numbers because the gringo crowd from "barbarella" and "helpee" is now at balcony. at my table tuesday night, for example, discussion included girls who complained about the number of woman out populating the men, and the girls are asking for r150-r200 per 2 hours or more depending on the gringos chemistry or the relief of the girl finally finding a client. many girls go home without clients. one of the girls is a white "barbarella" (monica with slanted eyes) who returned from the smelling balcony restroom crying because the environment does not reflect the tranquility of helpee. she got caught in a girl fight near the restrooms, and returned to start tearing up and complaining she can't make money like this. then polianna (morena with nice breast job) chimed in about working between balcony, barbarella and the pussycat strip club to make up for what she lost from helpee. different quality of girls is what is making it rough. plus the panhandling in front of balcony is more aggressive than helpee. with the playboy gringo crowd with a buyers gdp market is more volatile amongst the girls. even in front of dolce vita seems more volatile. i saw some crazy helpee girls looking intimidated. its even rough to get tables served at balcony.

P.S. About caipirinha, guys I could care less to talk shit or to lie, if I wrote 25 it is cause it was 25 reais. Was it their mistake or what else I do not know. I remember I read 25 in my bill, do not believe me, it is fine for me, but for sure I am not here to try to ruin an old institution of Rio, so far as I never got bad experiences at L'uomo.

BTW we are very close to Carnival right? Cause ok, I never went to sambodrome, but in Copa I do not have this feeling, yet the same girls of 3 weeks ago, no new entry between the girls.

Sorry for that in my last report but having just finished a marvelous evening, all of the doom and gloom seemed ludicrous. Also, I felt that giving the wrong price for a caipirinha at L'uomo (it's 14 not 25) was unfairly adding to this idea that everyone is just trying to cheat you. And that it could damage the reputations of a fine old institution.

I understand the sentiments being expressed. Not to get too lterary, but Rio is a metaphor for the lovely Cairioca herself. Because she can be so wonderful, it is all the worse when she takes it away. But the great thing about them both is that there is always something else just around the corner.

I have chatted for several friends who are in Rio and some who just left. They back up Lukasek's assessment of the Balcony and the attitudes of some of the termas girls. Indeed they did find the scene to be different and in some ways disappointing.
