It was a dark and stormy night. Really. One of those rare late-spring cold fronts had barrelled into Rio, mercifully quenching the searing heat that had apoeared so early in the season. Waves crashing on the beach, wind howling, stinging rain in your face. Just the sort of night to visit an old haunt and renew old connections. So, I made my way to bar 22. Let me say up front, I don't recommend it to many of you because of the grimy facilities and "variable" quality. At its best, it is a place not suited to many gringos. And that night was far from its best and, yet, in a strange way, it was.

As I climbed the narrow stairs, I sensed that something was not right. As I ascended and left the cool damp outside air, it became dense and steamy. The upstairs corridor was choked with people, local guys, stripped to the waist and standing around with a beer in their hand and a few girls. I pushed forward to pay the R12 entry fee (which gets you 3 beers, BTW) and when I got inside the boite, I learned that the AC was out.

I didn't even consider leaaving because I immediately sensed that something was different. Thanks to bubba's guide I was able to take the train from cantafugo station (near Help on Miguel Lemos) to centro Uruguaina and hit local spots there. The train is not for the faint of heart during busy times, it gets really packed. The same only a little more can be said for Buenos Aires 85. Hardcore poor locals spot. I checked out all 5 floors, a bar in each of them with girls, decent selection, most are in good shape, no fuglies here. When I have gone to Centaurus have never had to pay the full amount in advance, only the entrance fee, when they ask for R450 I tell them the other times I only had to pay the entrance and they have always said ok. Been staying in Centro last two days. After my morning session with KM's Adrianna which I reported on below, I went to finally check into my hotel. A general observation from me is that flaming happens very easily on the forum, and I think it´s sad. Some people get angry for very little reason and it brings a bad mood to the discussions. I was questioned myself a couple of weeks ago when I was asking some questions, and I find myself thinking twice to post again.

I'donk: I disagree that people here get angry and flame very easily. There are many guys here that have been contributing great FREE advice on their time for years (not me - I am a relative newbie that has benefitted greatly from this advice.) They are very patient and kind in answering questions and trying to be helpful. I certainly understand the frustration they have from constant newbies coming on here and asking entry level questions without doing any legwork. You know - the posts that start with "In Rio next week, need a girl friendly hotel, any suggestions? What do garotas cost? Where is the best place to date a non-pro?" By searching the archives and taking a few hours someone can learn a great deal about every aspect of Rio - not just mongering. They can garner the confidence and intelligence to really enjoy a first rate time in the Marvelous City.

Now that is not to say there are some disagreements and personalty clashes here. And I am guilty of some of those myself. But that is guys just being guys. But even those are entertaining as the guys are intelligent and sarcastic. You also see guys apologize for their dust-ups too. For the most part I have found the guys here very civil, very supportive and helpful.

I believe you are personally referring to the negative responses you received trying to secure a phone number and intelligence for the termas Black & White in your dogged pursuit of the porn star Luana. One guy here finally (after quite a few posts from you) suggested you simply go, find out and report back. And I and others concurred. Sometimes you have to take one for the team and contribute back.
