I would imagine the entire area will be a major construction site (demolition, dust, noise, etc.) and businesses in the immediate area like TA will be hurt.

I am going to fly out to Rio in the next week. Just incase help does close. Probably stay the month off September. 3rd trip in 4 months. Just want to be there when help closes. I think most girls will head to balconey when it closes.

I'm on an email chain right now, bunch of guys going back and forth about Help closing. Guys who know Rio, guys who have lived in Rio for many years and have done business in Brazil.

One guy today says Help is a done deal and they have to vacate the premises by Oct 1 and he knows where they are relocating to in Copa.

Unfortunately this is all he says, I asked him where in Copa, is it the Bingo Arpoador? Lets see if he responds or not.

The current layout with the restaurant out front and the club inside was a perfect combination of things, some liked to hang outside and others inside, I like to do both. Some nights I would arrive at Terraco Atlantico at 11 pm or midnight, have a light dinner, some chopps, talk to some of the girls walking around and then meet some inside when I was finished with my dinner. It was a perfect setup.

Lets hope if there is a replacement locatiion the setup is just as good.

Your guests were out of line, and they should have had the patience to wander up to the 3rd floor where at least they might have kicked themselves for their unfortunate remarks.

They are once a year guys so it will be awhile before they go back, I am sure. But one day they will and they will kick themselves for missing out on this cheap, relatively quality stuff in some centro casas.

It sounds like some in the group showed a lack of class once you hit your spot. Whenever I introduce someone to new to the scene to a new place, I never take their dislike personally. I try to gauge their likes and dislikes before I take them. If it turns out I was off base, then so be it.

Rio nightclub closure leaves prostitutes Helpless

For decades it has been one of Rio de Janeiro's most notorious nightspots, a neon-lit colossus at the heart of Copacabana beach renowned as a meeting point for wealthy, sunburned tourists and scantily clad prostitutes.

After 25 years of late nights and throbbing hangovers, the dancefloor of the Help discotheque is set to host its last party on Friday 28 August, as the government moves to clean up the city before Brazil hosts the 2014 World Cup.

Rio's governor, Sergio Cabral, has unveiled a R$65m (£21m) plan to bulldoze the nightclub and replace it with a music-themed museum designed by the US architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the same company that gave a facelift to New York's Lincoln Centre.

Cabral, who is campaigning to bring the 2016 Olympics to Rio, says the museum is part of a drive to improve living conditions in the city, which has also introduced pioneering policing initiatives in several slums including the City of God favela made famous by Fernando Meirelles's film.

News of Help's imminent closure has gone down badly among the estimated 2,000 freelance prostitutes who use the club for business, often to support their families. "We only use the club to meet clients. This is not a crime. All we do here is dance and have fun," Patricia Alcantara, 30, told the Rio newspaper O Dia. "With the closure of Help we will have to go on to the streets."

Thaddeus Blanchette, a north American anthropologist who has written extensively on the club, said closing it would not reduce levels of sex tourism but would make the prostitutes' lives "more complicated and, ultimately, dangerous".

He said: "What will happen is that many of the women who are currently 'freelancers' and use Help will be pushed to accept, to one degree or another, pimps as they will have to work the old traditional venues or the infinitely more dangerous street scene. This, of course, puts them and tourists more at risk for crime and violence."
