Headed back for Carnival in 2023, and just researching the board. Amazing that most of the places that were around then are still here:

    - Help is gone (sad. But then by 2008 it was showing it's age).

    - 4 x4, Classico and Centaurus are still there. Wow. Fucking amazing.

    - Even Vila Mimosa is still around. Spent plenty of nights in those crappy little rooms back in the day. Wonder if they'll be the same.

Now in Asia a long time, spoiled with BBFS being the norm.

In the past most Rio action was covered, I got lucky a few times at 4 x4, and (lucky / unlucky) at Mimosa. A few times with freelancers from Help. But back then was 80% covered.

    What's it like now?

    (I take Prep when traveling).

Also, anyplace like Help along the beach now?
    Still 80% covered.

Taking Prep is a very bad idea unless you're a fan of bare back anal or your S. O. Partner is HIV positive. You think exposure to HIV only happens when traveling?

For places like help in Brazil you have to go to Sao Paulo.

I strictly made the comparisons in terms of commute and various transportation into the main city.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    You're right to consider Rio

I have 2 months of vacation next winter and was considering going to Cartagena Colombia since I love beaches and swimming. But upon further research I realized that the Cartagena beach is garbage and the area in general seems. Not worthy of spending a month or 2.

So here I am, considering Rio instead, as the beaches look much better and Rio in general seems cleaner and 100 x better than Cartagena.

Anyway I'll lurk this forum further as my knowledge on Brazil is limited at the moment but here is a dumb question while I'm at it; I'm going solo and enjoy swimming a lot. If I leave my beach towel and a small backpack containing a book, a bottle of water and random stuff such as snacks, will it get jacked automatically as soon as step in the ocean? I was thinking of leaving my bag fully opened whenever I leave so that people can see for themselves there isn't anything worth taking.

On second thought. I guess I could simply learn some Portuguese in the following months, and maybe just ask a nearby family or whatever if they can keep eye on it.
As someone who loves Cartagena, I think you would regret spending 2 months in Cartagena for the following reasons:

    1. Not much to do. Cartagena is a small city compared to the megapolis of Rio de Janeiro. The historic center is beautiful, but 4-7 days is more than enough to explore everything.

    2. P4P is super-costly compared to Brazil (and the rest of Colombia).

    3. The beaches are shitty unless you go to islands (which will add up to your expenses).

Meanwhile in Rio I could spend 2 months (maybe with some occasional day tours) and wouldn't be bored for a second.

As to your bag on the beach, don't worry. They wouldn't be snatched automatically. They'll be snatched manually by your friendly Copa thieves if you're staying in Copa. Ipanema, Leblon and Barra beaches are safer.

You can ask people to watch your stuff while you're in water -- either a guy you rent a chair from or some Brazilian families. Still, a good idea is bringing as few valuables to the beach as you can. Leaving a bag open or close won't make any difference IMHO.

Be aware, though, that beaches in Rio are more suitable for surfing than swimming, and waves can be a bit violent. You'll have to go as far as Recreio to find some calm waters. Although there is a nice semi-protected beach in front of Sheraton Leblon.

And don't worry about snacks. There are tons of kiosks and merchants selling inexpensive food and drinks.

To Barra or not to Barra

You really need a car like everyone else living there. If you have a family and want to settle down it would be a good option. Lucio Costa was one of the designers and he was known for his work on designing Brasilia. Another layout disaster for anyone without a car! Its not like a city where you see or discover interesting things all the time, like little side streets with cool looking bars or restaurants, not great for people watching etc. It just feels artificial and a bit boring. You have to go to a big shopping center if you want that. It does have some of the best big stores, but how often will you actually need to go to buy a very expensive designer table? You can use the metro to the zona sul or bus or taxi, but you'll be spending a lot of time on public transport. As a single guy, I just think its better to pay more for more interesting surroundings, more life around you, more options within walking distance. In my 10 years living in Rio, I lived in Copa, Flamengo and 2 locations in Ipanema. No way would I even consider Barra. To each their own I guess.
I totally understand where you are coming from and can see your point of view for sure and it's a very valid one!

I guess since the OP was asking for something better at the $1000 range with good amenities this would be the best option for him and guys like him in similar conditions.

I don't know how long he will stay in rio but if it's more than 6 months I'd say barra is fine.

I guess to compare it to something it would be like staying in Williamsburg (barra) and than commuting 30-45 mins to get into Manhattan (copa) you get a better set up for your buck in a lesser neighborhood and in exchange you have to make a daily commute which is a hassle for sure but you get use to the routine and lots of brazilians commute to copa and ipa to work / play from nearby neighborhoods.

Barra definitely isn't the free spirit energy like copa / ipa is but they also have nice beaches and you'll definitely meet alot of affluent brazilians who speak english and american / european expat so less working girls but a good chance of meeting a quality girl.

Some places in barra give you a free or discounted bus pass to the city and some have ferries to get you into the city.

You could also rent / buy a bicycle to get around. Rio is very bicycle friendly and I'd be wise to live a healthier lifestyle in a city that promotes it. Definitely a benefit. I'm trying to bike around my city to save a few bucks on these gas prices and get in better shape at the same time but it's a real warzone trying to do so in the states. (I also saw that pic of Brasilia and that looks like a hellscape for traveling. Pretty looking but a real pain to get around).

One of my favorite Japanese book has a great line in it called:

    The Law of Equivalent Exchange.

Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return.

To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.

You cannot conjure something out of nothing. It must be taken from somewhere else.

This applies to everything in life and here as well.

In order to stay closer to Copa (gain) you must pay more and expect less (loss).

In order to get a nice value and place in barra (gain) you must spend more time traveling (loss).

So you're either spending more money or time in each scenario. One isn't better than the other since it's subjective but the loss must come from somewhere and that's to each to decide is more fair.

Also applies to learning a new skill like playing the guitar very well.

In order to be proficient and skilled in music (gain) you must spend hundreds of hours in order to do so (loss).

    Even winning the lottery applies.

In order for you to win $500,000,000 with a $2 ticket (gain) millions of other people have to put their money into that jackpot with their millions of $2 tickets (loss).

Love this law and I apply it to everyday life.

And seems like alot of posters do as well as some have discussed about how they either.

Buy a first class plane ticket and get a 3 star hotel.

    Or.

Buy a economy plane ticket and get a 5 star hotel.

Yeah it should be and I am getting a second plan just to be safe. But no idea how well TMobile or Google Fi work down there, and if they slow you down if you burn through data with video meetings. Wifi still key to making this thing work, was able to squeeze two weeks versus one if I can make it work.

    Saturday plan, Barra

    Saturday plan, Barra.

At 8, my ISG buddy in Transamerica went to the pool, and Vagabundo did too, and did the check the box workout -- boxing, swimming, clean and jerks. Vagabundo had committed an own goal, unforced error by forgetting the name of the German girls, and even though he got the number, he could not find it in his phone. Backpacker chicks in their early 20's from Germany are prime fun to go out with even if two guys and two girls go to a local club and end up getting the girls hooked up with some Brazilian guys, it's all good socializing. Alas, Vagabundo's probably been smoking too much THC.

Getting some endorphins in my blood, I posted my plan. Wingman had already booked a girl at 13 h.

Vagabundo's sabado plan: darkroom or emporio do banho 12 h; 15 h na brasa Colombia, metro jardim oceanico; 16 h classico beach club; 21 h perola negra.

We went to Barra Garden, to the always excellent sushi spot. Vagabundo grabbed a city bus to the metro, and from there took the metro to metro uruguiana.

OK, the customer is always right. If you, the Brazil monger come to rio, and only ride uber black to solarium and fuck the hottest girl there, good on ya. You were right. But for Vagabundo, going on the effing metro and the bus is itself a semi-erotic, girl watching experience.

    https://youtu.be/S7zmtaJeNzQ

Look at the above video, which one of my all time Rio fave hoars commended to me as good music to fuck to. For Vagabundo, the hot girls in that hot music video are hot AF! And that is what the women on public buses in Rio and the metro look like.

OK, so anyway. My zap notes from the day.

    2:04 PM, 7/30/2022 Darkroom 4 girls. I did manu 80 r for 30 minutes, great.

2:06 PM, 7/30/2022: Covered but for 16 usd such a great value!

At darkroom, Vagabundo chose from among the 4 on offer one Manu, no kids, morena clara, super cute, for the half hour special of 80 reais, which is all of 16 US Dollars. That's like two and a quarter gallons of gas in Hollywood from what I understand. For a good solid (if covered) fuck, after a bare blow job. Boom, direct hit, repeat!

So, then Vagabundo went down to one of the so called trash casas, and found a fave, codename Noemie Bilas, who actually resembles a young Michelle Obama in college.

2:29 PM, 7/30/2022: Waiting for another girl. Good day in the making.

4:32 PM, 7/30/2022: Another great fuck with Noemi bilas. A look alike for a college age michelle Obama. 80 reais 30 minutes.

So, she was doing clients, so Vagabundo went to the corner shop and had a 500 ML Acai to recharge, and then banged her too, a great bang. I mean, I like face fucked her, she was gagging, spitting out the spit, and then a solid fuck in several positions, try as I might to take up the whole 30 minutes of fucking, I came at about 15 to 20 minutes, a happy customer.

Not only did I tip her, but on the way back to the metro, I actually bought some yogurt and salami from some (very well stocked) street vendors, and took the (cheap, at 22 reais) bag of chow back to the casa with the intent of giving it to the whole house, but I gave it to her. I mean, these are people, and karma is a ***** if you are an asshole, and small kindnesses are remembered, treat others as you would want to be treated, and on.

As I say, the customer is always right. If you like your area in Rio, good on ya. That said, if you do go to barra, stay: 1) either near metro jardim oceanico, eg, http://www.ksportal.com.br/, or 2) at a apartment hotel with a luxury tourist bus to centro, for several reasons, the first being that being a rich person on a luxury bus on that daily ride along the coasts from barra to centro is beautiful and never gets old, and second it saves 100 reais round trip, which is 40 minutes of sex at the top tier prives in centro, which is money in your pocket, even if you only stay a month.

Here are a couple sections from my re-write of the Bubba Boy guide with some specific addresses to search for if you do decide on Barra.

    Most Important Websites for Brazil.

    Link for motels, hoars.

Along with a credit card and the phone or chlp that links to that account, the following two links are all that you need for Brazil.

    Where to stay in Rio.

See the attached map. This is the most important map in Rio. This is the metro map. This is how most Cariocas get around.

My recommendation about where to stay are:

    1. Metro Jardim Oceanico. Search for places as near to Ave de pepe 400 (Perola Negra), or Olegario Maciel 7 (Na Brasa Colombia) as possible. PN is the best terma in Rio IMHO. We had a great night there last week, super talent, super hot negra from Rio, super hot morena from MInas. The talent there goes back and forth with 4 x4. Good rooms, including a BDSM suite. Walk to the metro to go do the centro prive thing. Beach is clean, and is where the girls from PN will come before work. The metro station is new since Bubba wrote his guide in 2013, and it is the driver of economic and social growth.

Above is a good video of Barra.

I do recommend staying at the Infamous Transamerica, IE, Mediterraneo condo, Av Gastao Senges 395. Other similar condos that run a luxury bus to centro include Riviera, Novo Leblon, Barra Bali, Barra Mares, and others whose buses can be seen hourly at Av President Wilson 147 in Centro. The bus is key as it reduces transportation cost, and it makes you a upper class person compared to the unwashed, poor masses, ie, the working girl classes whom you, as the upper crust, fuck. You want to be part of the upper class in Brazil!

As far as BBBJ, it is very common among prepagos in medellin Colombia. Beautiful prepagos for 50-60 usd for 2-3 hrs sometimes more than one round with all the services you mentioned and more.

In medellin casas you will find more rules. But wouldn't lump Colombia in with mexico thailand. Girls in medellin very relaxed and medellin presents an excellent value when compared with other mongering destinations.

Basically, skip the salas at Rio Branco 156 and 185. Overpriced with same talent you find at prives in 13 de maio and praa olavo bilac.

Pretty much done every prive here (unless it wasn't listed on gpguia and other sites).

The best ones by far are darkroom and sala 3206 at av 13 de maio. Hottest girls with strong lineups and good value at 30 min 100 reals. HR 150.

You really get spoiled here in Brazil with the BBBJ, 69, DFK. Not sure how the Mexico / Colombia / Thai mongers do it with CBJ and rules after coming here LOL.

Also, Xpartan I agree with you.

Rio is really not that dangerous, and I have lived in NYC previously for many years. Stay out of the favelas and don't be a dummy "vlogging" and taking pictures of everything like a youtube mark and you'll be completely fine.

In my travels every time I've seen a mugging, a person is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Daylight muggings won't happen 98% of the time if you don't have your phone / Rolex / jewelry on display walking down the sidewalk.

Noobs just use your smarts and don't be alone at night, common sense.

For short stays like most of us on the board being in Copa / Ipa is required so you're not wasting time trying to enter the city and going back. Time is crucial.

Apartments in Copa / Ipa are overpriced for what you get especially since you can get a really modern and sometimes fully furnished place in barra.

You can find some around the $1000 and they include a gym, pool, laundry and usually a small market or restaurant in the place so it's the perfect for long stays.

Since you'll be there for a longer period of time you'll eventually find some girls you'll click with and can invite over and you won't be so concerned about hitting the termas so much.

There are buses and a subway that you can use to cheaply and easily travel to and from copa.

At least that's what I would do if I were there long term.

    Good luck.

Fuck #2 of another Friday to Jada Fire, Rita Faltoyano directed and starring Steve Holmes.

Vagabundo woke up after a sleepless night with homegirl. We fucked in the morning, and it was good. Made an omelette then headed down to pool with a ISG buddy in town. My fellow ISGer concluded that getting a bus pass is worth it. Here is the link:

    https://www.associacaomediterraneo.c...-balsa/onibus/

When you reserve, you should tell your landlord (administrator) you want a pass. The landlord has to do some authorization. Then that gets passed to another office at av gastao senges 185/ loja 130, and then they give you a pass. Saving 100 reais a day -- uber to and fro -- is 40 minutes in a prive, and worth it.

At the pool, we met some german girls, wish us luck, maybe we take them to olegario maciel 7, and maybe to vitorino.

Then Vagabundo came back upstairs, and homegirl was in the mood, so we fucked again, this time to Jada Fire and Rita Faltoyano with Steve Holmes and 2 other studs, kind of a eastern European meets LA porn negra vibe. We had another great fuck. Homegirl informed Vagabundo that she like blondes, so Rita being at least somewhat brunette was picked because Annette Schwartz and Jada Fire's superb scenes together had all been watched! Again, for you rich world Puritan Pussy PatroBitches, go get fisted at the closest weed dispensary, thanks very much! And, referencing another post by the always genius Ojeito on another thread where he referenced inflation, Vagabundo suggests looking at inflation protected government bonds, because gentlemen and rio negras prefer bonds and blonds.

Wish we ISGers luck in turning the german girls at the pool into our little aryan harem!
